  1. This is AngelsWin, not TroutWin. It's not a travesty, its unfortunate, but unfortunate for the TEAM. You should really ask Trout why he re-signed with the Angels. He says he believes in the ability of the leadership to build a contender. If that's not good enough, then you can disparage him directly. At the end of his career, if the Angels don't get him a ring, it is as much on Trout as Moreno, because, you know, personal responsibility for choices.
  2. It's a tough question because the big unknown is always "how much did ownership tie the GM's hands, or, step in to make executive decisions on FA acquisitions?". I don't know a lot about GM's prior to Stoneman but Buzzie Bavasi's teams made 1st place in the division twice (both went to ALCS), 2nd twice, and 5/6th four times, so a mixed bag that should not be judged on the Ryan situation. Reagins was the head of player development under Stoneman and had the benefit of Stoneman's prospect hoarding, so at least he had a concept of whole organizational success. He was also handcuffed by a very active owner with an extremely undiscerning eye for talent (think Vernon Wells signing which was on Arte). I'd say Jedi was the worst mainly because how he didn't have a good draft philosophy along with a scorched earth farm/player development policy.
  3. Guessing that this sticks in your memory because ASU beat SC for their only loss that year.
  4. Curious about what sparked your connection to Alabama football. The two Bruin wins over them in 2000 & 2001 are among my favorite out of conference, regular season memories.

  7. I followed the Cards after moving to St. Louis in '75. Stole 56 bases as a 36 year old, a year after stealing 118 bases. When he was on first, you focused on him no matter who was on the mound or plate as you felt like he could take a base in any situation. In light of advanced stats he wasn't among the best LF'ers but there is no stat for excitement created.
  8. Both games will be 7 innings. https://apnews.com/b5191a2c456db653ac847ee1801ccfb0#:~:text=Big league doubleheaders will now, situation told The Associated Press.
  9. Not from a big sports family but started playing/watching baseball while growing up in OC, so Angels first. Then around age 10, moved to St. Louis and followed the Cards. Great baseball town and loved this guy: Moved back to LA/SGV and while I don't really follow the Cards anymore, they are my favorite NL team.
  10. A soldier, battling demons from his covert past, is sent up-river through the heart of darkness to confront a man who battled those same demons and lost.
  11. Obviously no pre-nup. Or balls for that matter.
  12. As much as I like and respect Mike Trout, what's good for the team always comes first. Not to say that there will never be a good reason to trade him, however, your post doesn't include a single one. Remember, he freely chose to sign a contract and his eyes were wide open in regard to the owner, GM and what their track records are. Mike Trout isn't owed what you think he's owed. That being said, I'm frustrated as hell too.
  13. Since I have total control, blow up team payroll on the scale of the Dodgers circa 2014-15. The Dogs were able to unload bad contracts while actually improving their farm by being committed to making trades that didn't send any prospects of value. This kept them at payroll far above the next highest (Yankees) and in 2015, almost 90m above the 3rd highest (RSox) and allowed them to reshape the team while positioning themselves for their recent success. --Unload bad contracts (Upton/Pujols) by any means necessary that does not include prospects, but may include outright buyout. -Refuse to be outbid for Bauer, and pick up another top of the rotation arm to go along with our only other one, Bundy (may it continue). Heaney is 4, Canning 5. -Like some others have said, become the MLB leader in scouting both domestically and internationally. Create an unmatched Dominican training complex and hire staff with integrity. After a few years, the farm should start to bring payroll down and we can come under the Tax threshold. Obviously this will cost a ton for a while but what use is having total control if you can't spend the hell out of Arte's money?
  14. Bunting to break up a no-hitter is another one. A bunt hit is still a hit and if they're down they need men on base. It aint over till its over.
  15. I'd go a little further: I think pressure needs to be introduced to the game. Perhaps some rules can be relaxed for playoffs but the pastoral pace of the current game is for a different era. -Pitch clock, and batter clock. If it affects certain pitchers, the manager can pull them earlier. Batter needs to be ready to step in and hit within timeframe or take a strike. -Prohibit all mound visits. If the battery has signals crossed, so be it. They are paid to do their homework and they can consult when the side is retired. The manager can visit the mound to change pitchers. Some leeway needed for checking for injury but there needs to be some type of deterrent to abuse of the leeway. Most mound visits are about controlling momentum, which is an excitement dampener, and not legitimately about communication; and even if so, professionals should be forced to have those issues locked down before the game starts. -Limit throws to keep runner in check to a certain number per game for each team and stepping off the rubber counts as a throw. This will open up the running game and force teams to save those throws for later innings or suffer the consequences. When they have made their allotted throws it's on the catcher to throw them out. -Time can be called by any umpire only, or limit time calls to 3/game.
