  1. Trade for the best starting pitcher that doesnt cost an inordinate amount of assets and go a little heavier on spending for back end relievers than previously planned. While I dont agree that relievers are categorically terrible investments, they are higher risk and adding term to their contracts is even higher, but when you have the SP mix the Angels do, you have to be able to hold on to leads.
  2. It might be time to send Beckham Aaron off to military school. This is clearly on him.
  3. DH- I dont really care whether the NL has the DH or not during the regular season. However, being that I assume that they would feel it to be a competitive disadvantage to have to go to a DH in the World Series and interleague while their rosters were formulated for no DH, it should stay universal DH. Extra Innings Runner- In a perfect world I would say no, but, I see it as a nod to TV viewership to keep as many casual-fan eyes on the game as possible. Although die-hards see it as an intrusion on the tradition and symmetry of the game, which it is, ratings matter even in those relatively rare EI instances. More eyes will follow a game through to the end knowing a greater likelihood of a quicker resolution will ensue. 7-inning Double Headers - Dont care Expanded Rosters - This is the most likely to be reversed, as it should be. 3-Batter Minimum- This is the rule that I feel most strongly about and that it should remain. It isnt just about game times but more importantly the flow of the game. Ive always disliked having a LOOGY come in for one batter. Speaking of the flow of the game, they really need to severely limit mound visits for reasons other than to check on the pitcher if he looks like he may be injured. Maybe one pitching coach visit per game and all after that means the pitcher comes out. The Shift- I agree with the writers proposal about keeping two infielders on each side of 2nd, however, not necessarily having them on the infield dirt though.

  5. First, good post. I think the TV deals being renegotiated is a certainty, at least in the long-term, being that the big providers (cable/sat) that carry the lucrative regional sports networks are trending down and the internet based providers are either not offering or providing limited availability to RSNs. People are cutting the cord and either viewing for free or living without. That big contract Arte signed with Fox is not going to generate as much money as they thought at the time. The Angels under Arte have consistently directed inquiries about payroll away from the luxury tax threshold and stated that it is based on their revenue. However true that has actually been I don't know, but I think it is very likely that they are not going to start looking to spend up to the Tax threshold now of all times and will keep payroll fairly static.
  6. Which one is most likely to say, "That's what I love about these High School chicks man, I get older, they stay the same age."?
  7. Cody Bellinger lol https://ftw.usatoday.com/2020/10/dodgers-cody-bellinger-face-memes-mlb-playoffs
  8. He's been posting tweets directed towards potential suitors, even Baltimore. And he's left the door open for Cincy. He seems to want to be adored by fans in several of them.
  9. Jaden Hill? https://www.lookoutlanding.com/2020/8/3/21339659/2021-mlb-draft-preview-jaden-hill-mariners-tankity-tank-tank
  10. See the link GotBeer posted on Page 1 of this thread. Its a formula.
  11. The risk is Simmons taking the 19 mil QO thinking if he has a great season he could be on the market again the following year with the 2021 overpay offsetting the possible loss of value of the next contract for being a year older.
  12. Not knowing which team will sign him and the range of compensatory draft pick possibly going down to the 4th round makes offering a QO a gamblers anonymous level bet. The payout is unknown but possibly small. Lose and possibly lose your budget to go after the players you really need.
  13. The writer essentially, in the latter half of the article, admits that the piece is for the click-value
  14. Undoubtedly the Angels are considering this at some point, however, 1) they'd be fools to not evaluate his arm and command during a normal spring considering the possibility of him regaining his 2018 form. He carries the potential of being a near-dominant top of the rotation arm until he turns FA in '24. 2) 2020's start/restart spring training was a mess and he was coming off Tommy John. Hard to close off such inexpensive potential based on his shaky post-TJ starts in a chaotic season. 3) There were no doubt some assurances given in the wooing process to get him to sign here in the first place. Not that that should be written in stone forever, but, he did undergo TJ assumedly upon their advice and there are some implications for steering a player towards surgical procedures. It seems reasonable to let him try to bounce back. There's probably some valid concerns to a six-man rotation, however, injuries will happen at some point. Creativity can still get the #1 & #2 almost a full slate of starts (see Angelsjunky's six man rotation thread). Contrary to your comment that they don't have enough starting depth to risk Ohtani pitching and getting injured, I think its the opposite; even with a new FA starter, they will be greatly bolstered by Ohtani, even if he doesn't fully regain his 2018 form.
  15. This may be the first year no "King of Baseball" is awarded to a veteran minor leaguer during the meetings unless they award it just for continuity's sake. The award isn't listed among the other awards to be presented. The agenda is here
  16. Bauer, if they can keep the contact to 5 years max. 3 years with a overpay AAV would be ideal. He seems the most likely to maintain a #1's innings workload in a way that is synergistic to the rotation. AJ's excellent thread regarding WS Champs Rotations notwithstanding, pursuing the best arm available in a post-season landscape of 3-game series' and overutilized bullpens is imperative (cue Jim Mora Playoffs meme here). Besides, Bleacher Report said he is going to the Angels, so it is a fait accompli .
  17. I'm more curious about whether there will be some serious discussion of roll-back of some of the rule and playoff changes, as well as getting the minor leagues back on track.
  18. Apparently he listens to a lot of extemporaneous advice so you might catch his ear.
  19. It's difficult to reconcile the above mostly rational post with your other Tourette's-like outbursts about uniforms and Ohtani to the Dodgers and the persecution complex therein. It's almost as if a pre-teen has your password while you're at work. Post rationally like above and your takes will be more civilly discussed, or change your password.
  20. Like father like son. Hope they weren't given access to Brittany's child.
