Cubans in Cuba are pretty stoked, Pre boat-lift era Cubans in Miami are pissed.   Of course the Cubans in Miami have been living pretty well for 50 years, while the family they left behind or that refused to leave have struggled -- for the Batista refugees it's a bitter pill to swallow but it's nothing more than an old pissing match.   I've long felt the main reason the embargo has lasted as long as it has is due to politicians catering to the Cuban community in Miami...  Let's be real who else had a vested interest in Cuba other than possibly the gaming industry in NV?  So while an isolated Cuba didn't really help anyone, a Cuba open to trade would have been bad business for the anti-Castro business in South Florida.
 
For most of the last 50 years Castro and now his brother have been able to blame whats wrong with Cuba on the embargo and the US for keeping them down, the embargo created an outside enemy.  Ending the embargo puts the onus back on the Cuban government and may actually cause the youth of the nation to question what they have been taught since Kindergarten....

I don't think you understand who really is behind the scenes pulling the strings.  You see, there is a splinter group of the Illuminati that is driving US Cuban policy.  It's futile to fight this group because of the power they wield.  This group wants one thing and one thing only..........vintage cars from the 50's.

I can't fathom how other cultures regard us as ignorant.

The Lester trade was a crazier Oakland move in my opinion.

Moscow was pulling Castro's strings. The Cubans had no nukes of their own. The Russians took advantage of our isolation of Cuba to gain a foothold in the west.
 
My father was in the military during the Cuban missile crisis, and I was in school in Florida. I remember the convoys rolling though town headed south, practicing evacuation drills, and learning that the only thing that will save you in the event of a direct nuclear strike is a school desk. I remember them showing us films that said if you see the flash overhead, duck and cover. They didn't bother to say that instant incineration was next, because if a nuclear missile was close enough for you to see the flash, your ass was bought and paid for. Since I was living in the city that was home port for the Navy's South Atlantic Fleet, I'm sure that we would have been high on the list of targets.
 
Much of what went on then was classified for a long time. My father told me years later that when it ended, his unit (in Jacksonville) was 48 hours away from being deployed to Key West, and they had nuclear tipped missiles. When they give nukes to an Air National Guard unit, it's about to get very serious.
 
Fast forward to 1989, and I'm walking up to a Sukhoi SU-27 at an air show in Oklahoma City and touching it, and boarding an Antonov AN-225 and talking to the flight crew.
