But you're doing exactly what I'm concerned about.  You're setting the bar for him at the level of Hall of Fame catcher based on a very small sample.  Are you going to be disappointed if he's Charles Johnson instead of Gary Carter? I think you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

It will not be the first time for me. Rick Reichardt, Brandon Wood, Jackie Warner, Dallas McPherson the list goes on and on. Besides if O'Hoppe does not work out we have that 20 year old at AA right.

O'Hoppe looked great before he got hurt, but hes far from establishing himself. Neto has had a great year and hes definitely a building block. Moniak is a platoon outfielder, with maybe Joc Pederson upside, but thats not a difference maker. Adell is, who knows.

They have some pieces for sure but this is a long way off from having a legitimate winning core.

You have to start somewhere. Trout will be back along with Rendon. If Ohtani leaves opens up DH spot. People forget Ward also will be back. I do believe Sandoval, Detmers and Canning will improve with experience. For 2024 I try and resign Moore, Lopez, Moose and Ursela. Thaiss and O'Hoppe behind the plate. I just do not think it is all gloom and doom.

Silseth has his 4th straight solid start of at least 5 innings, 84 pitches.   Time to stretch him out to 95-100 pitches next start?

Great pen work for 4 innings, aside from Soriano’s wild pitch

Estevez finally has a dominant 9th for the first time in a while.

Silseth is young I like him at 85 pitches for now. Been long season no need to push him now. Silseth going into 2024 looks like good chance at being in rotation. Sandoval, Silseth, Detmers, Canning nice young starters going forward.

We've had Ohtani for six years and never made the playoffs.  Even if he came back, what would be different?

There's no easy fix here.  Our talent just isn't on the same level of higher end teams, and our best player is 32 and injury prone.  It just is what it is.  We all know a rebuild is needed, but with the team infrastructure full of Arte's cronies and our history (or lack therof) of draft success, I doubt that we could do so successfully.

We need new ownership, plain and simple.

Angel's do have young talent in O'Hoppe, Neto, Moniak, Adell plus young starters who should improve with more experience. Need to stay healthy. With or without Ohtani I believe halos future is bright.

The most realistic and probable way of ever winning again

    - do not attempt to re-sign Ohtani

    - hire the worst possible chemistry coaches/staff to make trout want to waive his NTC

    - find anyone who will take Trout, even if that means packaging another high round pick and eating salary (Mets?)

    - tank for 5+ years

    - use payroll when on the up and up in 2028

Use payroll in 2028 to make bad signings so the cycle can continue.

The Angels imo are not far off from being a team that can win the AL west.

It is unlikely (again) that the injury plague will continue at the level of 2022 and 2023.  If it does, the halos are screwed.

Non withstanding another injury eroded, the Angels can fix things pretty easily.

    1. Sign Ohtani

    2. Sign a true #1 starter of which there should be some good option available.

    3. Sign another Closer.

Even with the injuries this year, had the halos accomplished #2 and #3, my estimates is that they would have another 10 wins to date.

From a hitting standpoint, situational at bats, and executing the RISP offense can be addressed (and will be worked on during Spring).

Perry and Nevin did all they could this year, both grew in their roles, and will be more savy next year.

Simple fixes then steady as she goes.

We can just resign THE DOMINATIR

i'd sign him at most to a two year deal. we need a firstbaseman next year, especially since walsh seems to have lost whatever production he had to offer. moose can also play third, and that unintentionally seems like it will continue to be a need throughout the season.

if we don't sign moose, i'd consider resigning cron.

i think it'll all be stopgap stuff anyway until shauneul gets here, assuming he keeps going as he's gone so far. he looks like he could be in anaheim a year from now.

I sign both Cron and Moose to 1 year deals. First and Third be covered. Have Neto, Rengifo, Drury, Rendon, Moose and Cron for INF. Have Trout, Moniak, Ward and Adell in OF. Catchers O'Hoppe and Thaiss. If Ohtani leaves 5 in rotation Detmers, Sandoval, Canning, Anderson and Silseth. Bullpen 8 pitchers.

    Is this a serious suggestion?

You’re gonna have him play OF for 7 innings so in the 8th inning he can run 40 feet to get to the bullpen instead of running 300 feet from the dugout?

By the way if he has to bat in the bottom of the 8th then your whole plan was for nothing.

Or if the Angels are losing.

Jeff, ok bad idea let Dominator be closer
