  1. By 2019, the starters will hopefully be able to pitch 6 innings, all with a full season under their belt. That one extra inning per game can make a huge difference. But yeah, upgrades in the pen are still needed (closer, a lead setup guy, and a Petit clone).
  2. Time to DL Upton and let the hand heal properly? 5-40 slump, just 1 double and 1 rbi in that time For the next two weeks, have Upton DL'd and DFA Young (bad offense and bad defense), call up Hermosillo to start in RF and EY Jr. to start in LF, and have Calhoun play RF late in games while moving Hermosillo to LF late in games? Calhoun has had plenty of hitting chances. Young has had plenty of chances too. At least Calhoun plays GG caliber defense for late in games. What does Young bring?
  3. And in spite of Nibs pitching like a HS pitcher in game 3
  4. Or if down O.C. way, the Duke's at the Huntington Beach Pier For classic burgers, the original Tommy's at 3rd and Rampart in LA always works. Great chili burgers and served quickly, Frank Sinatra and LaMoutha are just two of many celebs to have frequented it in the past. Rival gangs have declared it truce ground in the past, that's how popular it has been for many years. Canters on Fairfax has the best corned beef I've ever had. Admittedly, I haven't tried Langers yet. Fabiolus on Sunset near the Pantages has really good Italian food. Out O.C. way again, Johnny Rebs on Chapman in Orange has really good southern food, including yes, grits.
  5. I have to admit that sometimes Arte is still a concern. Just want to know that he will never give out 10 year deals again, or 5 year deals to guys already declining. Hoping Upton's struggles are just injured hand related, and not decline .
  6. This happens when the GM is focused on all players in the draft, including very high ceiling players, and not just high floor players (hello Dip*ssy).
  7. It's that delicate question of understanding when the decline for a generational superstar will really kick in. If he did lead the Lakers to an NBA title within two years, and then struggled, then yes it was WELL worth it.
  8. "The 2-2 pitch to Grich.....change...strike 3 called....Nolan Ryan has pitched his 4th no-hitter!" -- Classic Dick Enberg I remember listening to the game while watching William Bendix's humorous movie, Kill the Umpire.
  9. And add Canning, Suarez, Soriano, Castillo, and whoever they draft with the 17th pick next week. Just need to develop a bullpen now.
  10. Does Upton need DL time for his hand? He's totally toast at the plate currently, 5-40 since May 19 with just 1 double and 1 rbi.
  11. How's this? Hermosillo starts in RF. Then late in game, he moves to LF to replace Upton and Cold takes over in RF. Great OF defense for innings 8-9. Then a decision needs to be made after 2018. Cold will have just one season plus $1 million buyout for 2020 at that point.
  12. That is fine. Just want to know that he won't go Stoneman on the org, and NEVER, EEEVER trade prospects away. Don't trade them all like Dip*ssy, and don't keep every one like Stoneman. Actually have a strategy that balances supplying the Halos with new players, with trading some prospects for needed upgrades. That is really the best strategy.
  13. As electric as LeBron is in the post-season, something to consider is how many games he's played and his age. 1143 regular season games and 236 post-season games have been played, and he turns 34 in December. For comparison purposes, Kobe played 1346 regular season games and 220 post-season games. For how much longer can LeBron play like a superstar? Sometimes, reaching this pinnacle in play is shortly before the decline kicks in, especially with that many games played. He is a very physical and strong player with rock solid athleticism for his age. But, would he take just a 3 year deal (for whatever the max is)?
  14. Looks like he's even saying "Give me the @#%^@ ball, JR!" Uhh JR, you aren't some newb. You've been in the NBA for like forever!
  15. Can he play RF serviceably? For the first 7-8 innings anyway?
  16. Parker and Anderson are fine as #3 and #4 options and Alvarez and Ramirez are fine for after that. It’s a closer, key set up man, and Petit clone that they desperately need.
  17. Then DFA Young and get Hermosillo up here and give him a chance to start in RF. We’re not talking permanent starter. Just give it a few weeks. I have no idea why Young is still here. Crappy bat and glove, and it isn’t the money since he’s only owed about $1.25 million as of now. If it is the money, Arte needs to seriously consider selling the team.
  18. Seems like it will take an act of Congress to remove Cold Calhoun from the lineup? Sosh, it’s been TWO months! Enough!!!! He’s still a great 8th/9th inning defense sub. What part of that do you NOT get???? Maybe taking the bat out of his hands even for just two weeks allows him to relax. And then maybe give him a chance at that point for two weeks????
  19. That’s Jeff Math-isn’t.
  20. That would be for mangina.
  21. Time to start determining 2019 managerial candidates? It’s not mainly on him, but it’s increasingly clear that a new voice is needed after 19 seasons.
  22. By end of season, maybe 82-80 record Time to start giving the AAA players a chance in September. Then it’s...Ward, Fletcher, Thaiss, Suarez, JMF...Come on up to the show!!!
  23. Or Boston would send us Kimbrel, and he’d become Frieri.
