Second Base got a reaction from Taylor in ESPN, Fox, and Warner launching joint streaming service this year
Something else they'll expect you to pay for, in order to watch what should already be freely available without restrictions.

Second Base got a reaction from ATX Halo in It’s time we consider signing Trevor Bauer
Here are the reasons I want to sign him, IN ORDER.
1. He's a Cy Young caliber pitcher that will pitch for the league minimum of you let him.
2. We just saw his velocity and spin rates all reach career highs in Japan. I am honestly curious if he's still THAT guy. Because if he is, he might be another Verlander or Scherzer, that can pitch into their 40's. So it's curiosity.
3. This goes hand in hand with #1 and 2, but he can help the Angels win.
4. He's actually VERY respected in the clubhouse. It's only outside those doors that he pisses people off. I think he can legitimately make our pitchers, particularly Griffin Canning, much, much better.
5. He seems genuinely repentant of the arrogance of his youth. He deserves another chance.
6. I'd like to stick it to the Dodgers if he does well, which I think he will.
7. I'd like to see him stick it to everyone that jumped to conclusions about him. This "me too" and "believe all women" movement from the left is absolutely out of control.
8. It's still innocent until proven guilty. He's been proven innocent.

You may notice, my reasons for wanting him here are firstly baseball related. Everything after that is just icing on the cake.

Second Base reacted to jsnpritchett in My rose colored glasses say:
The difference is that the 2000 Mariners were already a playoff team, so they could withstand the loss of one great player, because they still had several other very good guys--plus, they didn't just add Ichiro: they got Bret Boone, who had an absolutely batshit crazy 2001 (8.8 bWAR, 3rd in MVP voting).
So, for the purposes of your example, in present day terms, that would be like if the Angels lost Ohtani this season and replaced him with Mookie Betts and Ronald Acuna, Jr. But, hey, they signed Aaron Hicks so we're this close to Betts and Acuna...ha ha.

Second Base got a reaction from EdmontonAngelsFan in My rose colored glasses say:
My rose colored glasses say that the Angels could sell at the deadline and get enough prospects in return that they'll be ready to compete again in three or so years all while Neto, Schanuel, O'Hoppe begin to hit their prime and money will be coming off the books from other contacts. Combine all that with Minasian's solid track record in the draft and trades, and I think the Angels could right the ship and build a sustainable winner in three years.

Second Base got a reaction from HaloBronco in MLB Network Radio: Arte about to sell?
This whole selling business is just a distraction.
First, whoever buys may not have interest in operating as a large or even a mid market team, so payroll seems equally as likely to go down as it is to go up.
Second, even if payroll goes up, it doesn't mean the Angels will be winners. Look at Steve Cohen and the Mets.
Third, can anyone here tell me who owns the Rangers without looking it up? How about the Braves? D-Backs? Strong organizations, but not necessarily an owner that puts himself out there.
Fourth, new ownership likely means new front office, which means even more turnover for an organization already wrecked from the turnover from the last decade.
I honestly don't care who the owner is, as much as I care what ownership does. Hopefully Arte keeps some consistency in the front office and the dugout moving forward. And hopefully he starts seriously investing in the farm, and hopefully he can get the ballpark situation squared away. But it doesn't matter to me if that's Arte or someone else.

Second Base got a reaction from Taylor in A case for Matt Chapman
I disagree. It's a great case to rebuild.

Second Base got a reaction from Taylor in A case for Matt Chapman
A case against Matt Chapman: He's not the difference between playoffs and no playoffs.
Otherwise, he's a fine target.

Second Base got a reaction from Angel Oracle in MLB.com's MLB Pipeline Top 100 Prospects: Schanuel (#95) is the only Angel
Furthermore, looking back, it's a damn shame that both Neto and O'Hoppe got hurt last year. Had they started healthy, the Angels likely would've got some compensation.

Second Base got a reaction from Angel Oracle in MLB.com's MLB Pipeline Top 100 Prospects: Schanuel (#95) is the only Angel
And for the record, EVERY TEAM AND THEIR FANS over estimate their own prospects value. I get that.
When someone that hates the Angels sees Schanuel, they see a non-muscular 1B with no power or upside. He's Casey Kotchman or James Loney. Irrelevant. Replaceable with literally anybody.
When I see Schanuel, I see a 6'4" athletic kid that needed no minor league time to post an OBP over .400 in the major leagues. He's got a beautiful Japanese style swing and will hit for power very soon. He's Freddie Freeman or Joey Votto and will make several all-star teams.
And the reality is somewhere in the middle. The lack of power as a 1B in concerning. But the fact that he's only 21, went straight to majors from a smaller college program and found significant success, suggests that his basement floor is as a major league regular for the next decade plus.
And that's worthy of being on the top 100. One could argue that's worthy of being in the top 10, depending on your preferences. That part is erroneous though. As long as he's in the top 100, that's all that matters. He's got just as much of a chance at ROY as anyone else and the Angels have a decent shot at getting a pretty solid prospect they otherwise never would have gotten, as a result.

I honestly don't care about the ranking, so much as I care that Schanuel is in enough top prospect lists that the Angels can get a bonus draft pick when he finishes in the top 3.
A player has to start in two out of three top 100 lists from MLB.com, ESPN and Baseball America.
First place ROY will get a draft pick after the first round. Second and third place finishers will receive international bonus picks.
Schanuel appeared in both MLB.com and BA. But not on ESPN.
Personally, I hate the top 100 clause because I've proven time and again that I have a better drop on Angels prospects than Jon Mayo, and I'm a know-nothing living in his mother's basement (figuratively speaking).
The Angels and Schanuel are in the clear this season. But the way the rule is written, it's ripe for corruption.

Second Base got a reaction from ELEVEN in Angels trade Trey Cabbage to the Astros for Carlos Espinosa
The thing about relievers, and pitching prospects in general, is that they're so inconsistent, that you just go with "stuff" and forget the numbers.
Espinosa throws mid to upper 90's. He's a lotto ticket. I don't really agree with DFAing Cabbage, but if you're going to trade him, yeah, Espinosa is what you target.

Second Base got a reaction from Inside Pitch in Angels Black History Month
My favorite memory of a black Angels player is Torii. Everything he did, it was always the best moment.
My favorite player for Jewish history month is Zach Borenstein.

Second Base reacted to Stradling in MLB.com's MLB Pipeline Top 100 Prospects: Schanuel (#95) is the only Angel
Look at Doug Mientkiewicz 2001-2003 seasons, solid .380 OBP, .820 OPS (116 OPS+) 10-15 homers, 35 doubles. Thats what I think we will see for a decade for Schanuel, with the upside of more homers.

I disagree with trading Cabbage, but Espinosa is the sort of return you hope for in smaller deals like that.
