The more I watch Rengifo's videos and AB's, the more I like. There's something there folks. The Angels didn't lose Cron for nothing. Rengifo could turn into a pretty good role player someday.

That was definitely a loud, obnoxious, pro-Yankee crowd. Good to play an away game at home. Like in the WBC playing against the Dominican Republic in Miami.

Yeah after he changed his swing and stance we've seen a slight shift in his game. Still squares up balls exceedingly hard, and now there's more lift. But there's also more swing and miss now, which works fine because of his higher walk rate.

Typically, you can't make as many mistakes as the Angels made and still win a ball game.
Cozart redeemed himself defensively for having negative value offensively.  Pujols was useless until he wasn't.  Kole was useless on both ends of the ball.  Shohei had no command, we went without Middleton, our best reliever, we left many men on base...
    That's a great win.

I've heard the same thing everyone else has heard. The only difference between myself, actually AW collectively and the rest of the prospect world is that I think we bought the hype a little earlier than the rest. My rankings really weren't any more special or different from others that contributed, which illustrates just how much homework everyone here does on these kids.
I expect Deveaux to be a fast riser. He's smart, articulate, athletic and hard working. It's a great combination.

Unless it's a different Anderson -- this guy was a two time All State selection while at St. Pius HS in Texas...   Draft reports from those days claimed he could hit the mid 90s but was inconsistent with his velocity.   In college he was a full time starter, his velocity stabilized but was unremarkable.

He may just be one of those guys that greatly benefits from being able to let it all fly for shorter stints.

I think it's unlikely. No name minor leaguers can't afford the untraceable stuff that some of the veterans use today. They'd almost certainly pop positive.
I think this one just comes down to physical maturation, they're in their man bodies now, coupled with professional coaching which brings out the best, and a shift in role, going from six innings at 90% to one frame at 100%.
Throw it all together and you have someone that jumps up 5+ mph.
Or maybe I'm simply a naive optimist.

I'm still getting used to this concept of Justin Anderson - elite arsenal reliever. I only saw him once before but wasn't blown away at all. That guy on the mound in Houston last night, that was someone different altogether.
It's like when Middleton went from a geeky jerky starter throwing 92-94 to a reliever touching triple digits, and now clear cut potentially dominant closer.
    It just happens so fast.

Most teams treat them that way.
Instructional League is a controlled environment where they really just want tools to stand out.
Rookie Ball is the same thing, except it isn't controlled. Basically just show the goods.
A Ball is where they want to tools to be present in the game, but also a level of refinement, or if not refinement, then at least show progress on a specific part of a prospects game that has been targeted for improvement. But the biggest thing with A Ball is actually stamina. Getting them used to playing a full season against better competition than any of them have faced.
AA is the upper minors. Take everything from A Ball and do it against major league caliber talent. The best prospects are in AA.
Advanced A Ball is a filler step for guys that need a extra development time before they're ready for AA.
AAA is just a "depth team" for the majors. Few in AAA are still developing. Maybe a small measure of refinement. AAA is also used for rehab as well.
A Ball and AA are the most important steps.

I think this one is really about the narrative.
Bergman didn't stay with one organization, and the one that he played the majority of his career with, either wasn't compelling or Berkman was overshadowed by other fan favorites like Biggio or Bagwell.
Vladdy was exciting because he was such a bad ball hitter, and he was fast and powerful, and he played for the Expos and they really draw a sentiment for not existing anymore. Plus Vladdy was mostly the biggest star on any team he played for.
That's what the HOF voters really key on, who made headlines.
It goes back to what we're seeing with Trout right now. Were he a more compelling individual, he'd dominate jersey sales, headlines and be the center of conversation in baseball. We're witnessing the greatest era of baseball ever in terms of talent, and Trout is so far beyond any of the other greats that it's both comical and unbelievable.
Yet most people either aren't aware of him because he's on the West Coast, or they don't care because he's boring.
Harper does half of what Trout does but is the talk of baseball.
It's all about the narrative. If the first two-way player in 100 years was a talented white guy that's basically an open book like Brendan McKay then it'd be interesting. But the fact that it's someone from Japan, who has a huge media and fan following, whose personal life is a giant mystery, who throws 100 mph....the story is more than interesting now.
It's must watch TV, must read writing.

It's funny, Trout's BABIP still hasn't normalized and he's still the WAR leader. If he can stay healthy, he might break 11 wins this year.
