And, that's all they're paying him for. So, you wouldn't think it would be too hard to do. But too often, these coaches just can't resist trying to over play guys (umm... Corry Perry) and they perform poorly.

Kind of the story with Gibson, too. Forget about the salary going out and just get your solid 50 or so games from the guy. He would give you all-star play or close to it. Over play him on a poorly defended team (like they do) and get way too many mediocre games. The sad part is he ends up only playing about 50 games a season because of injuries anyway. Two games in net; one or two out consistently and he might be playing on a playoff team now.

The cap goes up and I think he'll be on another team next year. Hopefully someone else can manage him better - but, I doubt it.

Lehkonen missed almost 40 games with a neck injury. Nichushkin is in player assistance. Tatar sucked. Miles wood missed 5 games with flu. Bednar loves Cogs and will give him those minutes when he's short handed. But now with Nichushkin coming back and Kovalenko coming when his KHL season finishes it's possible Cogs get some healthy scratches

Watching the Colorado/Dallas game. Can you believe Cogliano is still playing?  How many years ago did Bob kick him to the curb because he thought he was through? But he kept Silfverberg.

I swear, Bob should have done the Ducks a favor and just flipped a coin when it came to deciding between a couple players who he should keep. The guy must wear a stupid magnet around his neck.

As long as Cogs stays in his 10 minute 4th line LW role he's great. High energy, great forechecking, solid PK. But when they try to push him up to even 12 or 13 minutes he loses effectiveness

Just goes to show you how dumb and set in their ways MLB owners have been over the years.

I think it just reflects how all sports leagues went from basing their revenue off of ticket sales and game attendance before the existence of cable TV to realizing the benefits of local TV deals as they have been for the last 30ish years. Even the NFL had the Rozelle Rule which barred games from the home TV market if they weren't sold to close to capacity. Today only the NHL is really focused on attendance as the cash cow. It's why hockey teams will forego rebuild when they have any chance of those 2 extra home playoff paydays (in which the players aren't even getting paid) even when they know they have no chance of winning it all
