Dana looked very composed, in focus. He didn't let that leadoff single faze him at all.

Rada might be my new favorite Angel minor leaguer. I think they should be aggressive with him and have him play for the Pandas. Let's see what he can do against much older players.

Overall, I did enjoy seeing some fundamental baseball being played--at least early on. But walks killed them in the top of the 8th. Hopefully, Enright cleans that shit up while those young guys are in camp.

Martin ran the bases pretty quickly on that homer.

Haha. Cute. Because the first spring training game is the perfect time to judge a player. I’m sure using that same logic you are ready to give Adell the MVP?
Yes

Where did they find Hurtado and Darrell-Hicks? Wherever they found them, they should probably give them back.

Welp, these guys are still playing the Angels baseball we know and loathe...
-
Well, at least it's only the garbage pen guys who (hopefully) have no chance to be in the Show this year are the only ones who seem to not know where the plate is...

I like the move. Low risk, potentially a very high reward. Yankees are on the hook for all but the prorated league minimum.

I think it's kind of interesting that several folks seem to be concerned about Estevez because of his bad second half last season, yet several people seem totally fine with (and even excited by) the Stephenson signing, even though he's been mediocre overall in his career with the exception of his second half last season.
Gimme 1st half Estevez & 2nd half Stephenson...Carberto Stestevez.

More 4D chess from the Angels org.
Is the rest of the league playing 5D chess?

You got me with Abreu and now Lofton. You're running down my list on underrated guys who I'd want in the HOF.
Also Frankie Rodriguez, Andruw Jones, Todd Helton, and Carlos DelgadoI think Helton gets in this year. And yes, he is EXTREMELY underrated, most likely due to spending his career playing home games at Coors.
He was such a well-rounded player though.
Lofton should be in, too.

we don't know what the current team actually is. there is a variance from 'replacement level' to 'borderline all star' for probably 2/3rds of the lineup, probably 4/5ths of the starting pitchers, and pretty much the entire bullpen.
I'm back on the depth train.
The avg number of plate appearances per position is 681 per year. Or about 6100 total. The top 9 in PA for the angels last year totaled about 3800 PA.
Right now, those additional 2300 PA would go to:
Matt Thaiss, Michael Stefanic, Jo Adell, Trey Cabbage, Francisco Mejia, Chad Wallach, Alfonso Rivas, Evan White, Charles LeBlanc, Kyren Paris, Livan Soto, Jordyn Adams, Willy Calhoun, Jake Marisnick, and Orlando Martinez.
That's 38% of next year's at bats going to what I consider a collection of guys that might produce at a replacement level and probably worse.
I'm depressed now.

I must say that I will have a great sense of Schadenfreude when the Dodgers once again get bounced from the NLDS to some scrub team that won 88-90 games.
