we don't know what the current team actually is. there is a variance from 'replacement level' to 'borderline all star' for probably 2/3rds of the lineup, probably 4/5ths of the starting pitchers, and pretty much the entire bullpen.
I'm back on the depth train.
The avg number of plate appearances per position is 681 per year. Or about 6100 total. The top 9 in PA for the angels last year totaled about 3800 PA.
Right now, those additional 2300 PA would go to:
Matt Thaiss, Michael Stefanic, Jo Adell, Trey Cabbage, Francisco Mejia, Chad Wallach, Alfonso Rivas, Evan White, Charles LeBlanc, Kyren Paris, Livan Soto, Jordyn Adams, Willy Calhoun, Jake Marisnick, and Orlando Martinez.
That's 38% of next year's at bats going to what I consider a collection of guys that might produce at a replacement level and probably worse.
I'm depressed now.

I must say that I will have a great sense of Schadenfreude when the Dodgers once again get bounced from the NLDS to some scrub team that won 88-90 games.

Why not just leave the DH position and grab some decent depth options to spell Trout and Rendon, so they can occasionally DH to try to keep them healthy? I don't think the DH "position" needs to have a full-time occupant.

Same things were said about Ohtani. This dude is basically Ohtani without the hitting.
I think Japan is far more than "the JV team". Things are different over there, but considering how players have come over and had success recently I would give them a little more credit.
It's like AAAA+ if we're comparing it to MLB.
Doesn't mean he'll be successful but the odds are pretty good. It's not just about stats; MLB scouts are looking at his pitches and projecting how they would fair against MLB hitters.
Considering the Dodgers are all in on him is an indication that the general belief is he could be something very special.
It's also because he's 25 years old. The Angels could sign him and he'd still be in their rotation the next time the Angels are WS contenders...in 2030.

None of that is ever going to happen as long as Arte owns the team, so the rest is moot.

Arte doesn't like hurdles. He prefers a smooth path.
Arte prefers to create his own hurdles where there was previously a smooth path.

It's hard to get tickets, and tickets are expensive. I considered going to the Minnesota game last Sunday, but passed because the cheapest ticket was about $180.
I see a lot of people around town wearing Raiders gear, and the Raiders license plates seem to be reasonably popular.
There are a lot of them in Reno, too. Not sure how many of them are relocated NorCal denizens.
I'd say you dodged a bullet not getting tix to that snoozefest on Sunday.

I know it has been a couple years now, but how do the locals feel about the Raiders....and No I'm not talking shit about the Raiders.
Just curious how they are working out thus far?
Allow me (who lives in the same state the Raiders are currently located in...for now...until they bail again...) to talk shit about that Commitment to Excrement.
They suck, man. They have for a generation.
And, as a Broncos fan, I couldn't be more pleased.

We are really looking at the possibility that Trout is a lifelong Angel and never wins a single playoff game. That's incredible to me. God I hope Arte sells.
There is precedent. Ted Williams played for the Red Sox and never even played a postseason game. The Sox and Indians played a 155th game for the AL pennant in 1948, but the Indians won that game 8-3. Williams went 1-4.

You're right, I've read too many CBC articles where they used Canadian dollars when talking about his potential contract.
They probably talked about organ-I-zations as well.

We aren't close to win-now mode. He's a pipe dream for us. Only way to get him is to have Arte overpay
Would $700 million be enough?

I'm glad he got paid. He deserves to. Does he deserve nearly 3/4 of a billion dollars? Does anyone, really?
I'm glad the Angels aren't paying him that much.

Kenny Lofton HOFer?

I think Helton gets in this year. And yes, he is EXTREMELY underrated, most likely due to spending his career playing home games at Coors.
He was such a well-rounded player though.
Lofton should be in, too.
