All lives can't matter until black lives matter.  Sorry you are so triggered by someone using their high profile to fight for equality by peacefully protesting before they go out and play a game.

It's actually not baffling, unless you're speaking from the lens of a white person who has never personally experienced systemic racism.

I will never, ever know what it's like to be a Black person in America.  I do not know the sting of racism. I never had ancestors that were bought and sold, whipped, raped and malnourished. My ancestors were not granted their freedom from slavery only 150 years ago.
If Black athletes want to use their platform to bring attention to their plight and to get people talking about The Black Experience (like Middleton and Fletcher have done so aptly in this thread), then so be it.  I applaud their efforts to start the conversation.
I haven't walked in their shoes (and I'm guessing most of you have not either).
What I do know is that I can never understand the plight of Blacks in America when I look at their issues through my filters/lenses/perceptions.
It just does not work that way.

I read it and I get it. It's the same kids that post bullshit and sports fan guy that values how their sports teams do more than life issues.
I don't mind asking questions or considering outcomes and options, but the knee jerk AW detectives and the judgement are pretty gross. Some of the stuff posted is pretty low and makes me feel ashamed to be associated as a member and fellow Angels fan.
I guess I am entitled to the same opinion as their or whatever you're defending.

Just to play devils advocate.  But people here are saying that the MLB clubhouse is not a place for him.  First, I don't think coke is rampant in the clubhouse, except maybe the managers office in Texas.

But maybe his relapse was due to the whatever tv show his wife or him are on?  Because well, coke and entertainers never mix.  And I'm sorry folks.  But for an addict, you suddenly find yourself in a situation where it's available, no matter how much you try to avoid it.  Sometimes you just can't.

    So the trade was

    Hudson Street
0.76 WHIP and 1.06 ERA this season
1.02 WHIP and 2.86 ERA for a career
Concern I see is that he has pitched in extreme pitchers parks.  But  in Colorado, a rising 0.91, 1.06 and 1.22 WHIP with a 3.06, 3.61, and 3.86 ERA
    Trevor Gott
    2nd season
    At A+ a 3.16 ERA, 1.18 WHIP but at AA a 4.63 ERA, 1.71 WHIP.
his last 2 year of college were good, and his A ball campaign was a 2.56 ERA 1.11 WHIP.
Looks like he's a pure reliever.

    Taylor Lindsey
At the AAA level now.  A second baseman.
In 5 years, his minor league OPS is a .776.  At AAA his OPS is a .721.
Still only 22, but 17 errors at A+ and 18 at AA makes me believe he isn't a defensive wiz.
    RJ Alvarez
College guy that was moved from starter where he was horrible, to a reliever.
2.36 ERA, 1.14 WHIP in the minors.
From A to A+ to AA his numbers get better in a 3.29, 2.96 and 0.33 ERA and 1.21, 1.25, and 0.85 WHIP.
    Jose Rondon
20 year old SS in his A+ campaign.
    Career minor league .753 OPS
    A+ campaign .777 OPS.
Looks to have little power, but his doubles and triples are good.  His steal rate is poor, and 16 errors in 43 games 15 errors in 66 games makes it seem his defense isn't that great.
    Elliott Morris
22 year old in his second season in the minors.
3.46 ERA, 1.31 WHIP career numbers.

Overall, from just looking at the stats, Alvarez is the one that hurts.  Not as sold that we lost a huge amount in Lindsey and Rondon.  They look to be maybe average, where Rondon looks like he still needs lots of work.

Wild card will be Gott.  Looks like he has potential to be a solid reliever, but still too early to tell.  And definitely not at the level as Alvarez, where he looks like he might be a future closer.

This will be one of those in 5 years will make Dipoto look like a JeDi or really be a bad trade.  Overall, right now, IMO it's a pretty fair trade.  We get a reliever/closer that will help us now and next year, and lose a probable future closer and what seems to me to be possible average future middle infielders.  And when you consider that Hamilton, Weaver, Pujols aren't getting any younger and will be with this team for a few years.  Win now might be best option.

I remember for a number of years during our playoff runs that if our starters could give us 6 decent innings, it was basically lights out for the 7,8 and 9th(Shields, Rodriguez).  I'm hoping with the recent trades that at least for the next couple of year the team will be back to this kind of play.

A big assumptions I'm going to make here.  Arte does not want to go over the CBT cap.  He didn't this year, so I think it's fair to assume he won't want to in the future.

So where does it lead us.  Right now, I have the Angels for CBT purposes at a conservative $166 million.  If it puts you at the current players tab, change it to the CBT salary tab.

Say you add Garza for $14 million.  Looks good right, $180 million, under the cap.

But then look at 2015.  2015 I already have us projected at $146 million.  Add Garza's $14 million.  That puts us at $160 million.  Still wiggle room.  Trout can get $10 million in arbitration, or if you sign him to a long term deal.....that would put the Angels CBT at $170 million to $178 million assuming Trouts long term deal is $18 million average per.  Leaves you with less than $11 million in wiggle room, when starting pitchers should be better on the FA market.

    2016.  $133 million + $14 million for Garza + $14-$18 for Trout = $161 - $165 million

2017?  We lose Weaver and CJ.  And Callhoun should be in year one of arb.  Other than that, we are at $83 million + 14 for garza and $18 for Trout = $115 million

This team is not built well for the long haul.  But it's just something to consider when talking about signing Garza.

    AngelsWin Synopsis:
2012 Angels win a game board is silent.

2013 Angels win a game board still finds a reason to bitch.

We actually had people complain about Mike Trout and Jered Weaver this year. Man what happened to our fan base? I get that we are losing, but Jesus Christ if you are going to point out the negative every single time, how do you actually enjoy anything at all? This is a thread that was created after winning 2 of 3 from possibly the best team in the AL. We finished the year strong, enjoy it for what it is......good baseball.

I guess I am the eternal optimist. A bunch of secondary players along with a few starters have won 8 out of the last 9 games. I honestly think with our core healthy and a few upgrades in the pitching department that we can be contenders next year. Sorry for being optimistic, but I think that we can bounce back next year.

Thank you to everyone at fan fest for being so hospitable.  It was nice to be surrounded by passionate Angels fans and was a highlight of my trip to the west coast.  I also had a good time talking beer with gotbeer and Cory.  I was ticked off that we had to leave early and saw the walk-off home run on my cell phone right before take-off.  Once again Thank You for letting us attend.

Not to many great CT microbrews, but will try to get a super pack of southern tier on the plane.  It's from NY and is a good brew avg. ABV in the pack is 9.0..(I write this as I'm drinking a Sierra Nevada Torpedo).
