  1. I believe Josh Addicton's contract was worse than Puljos' if you look at the contract itself and how it turned out. But I agree AP contract was the biggest mistake and setback for this franchise since Ham's contract was shorter and Arte was able to eat that shit up to get rid of him while AP contract lasts for a decade and we never got to get rid of him cuz he's a first ballot hall of famer
  2. If it's against Padres, it's probably Will Myers contract they are dumping, not Hosmer
  3. The reason I'm against signing Ryu for 4+ years is exactly that. His injury history is not only TJ, but also shoulder-the biggest one-, back, hamstring, and groin. After couple of decent seasons, he started getting injured like everywhere and the time he came back healthy and started performing great was right before hitting FA in 2018. No team was stupid enough to give him long term contract and he accepted QO for another shot at FA this year, and he had a career year, finishing 2nd in NL CYA. 2-3 yrs may worth a shot cuz his upside is super, but more than 4 years, I'm afraid Ryu will spend more than half of his contract on DL. Same for Heaney, if he does well, I'll be more than happy to see that (I had very high hopes for Hean dog ever since Angels acquired him via trade) but I would say Angels front office preparing season assuming he'll be healthy next year is too dangerous. Most of those guys that's been getting hurt since 2015 are now retired or in other teams so let's say they are irrelevant to 2020 Angels, but some of those still here are the ones we see as big part of Angels future. Heaney has to be # 3 or 4 guy, Ohtani has to be a frontline starter, Middleton has potential to be future closer, and Canning is the best Angels pitching prospect as of now. However Heaney is an injury prone, Ohtani and Canning got hurt in their first big league campaign, Middleton got hurt in his 2nd season (1st as a closer) and given previous years of injury history, I think the team has to be really careful and be extra prepared in case of injuries next season. Usually I am against those "load management" thing, but with the Angels' pitching, I think it is a must at this point. Now for some reason, I sound like I want the Angels to get rid of everyone cuz they are weak af I'm not saying that. I'm just trying to say they have been very bad at managing pitchers (or their pitchers have been weak, or maybe they were just super unlucky for 5 years straight, whichever is the case) and some of Angels' center pieces (Ohtani,Heaney,Middleton,Canning) for 2020 and beyond are part of past injury histories and the team needs to be extra careful with them + needs to have plans in case of injuries. If you are in serious contention, trying to build a winning team, you can't have no backup plan and just call up whoever is pitching in Minors when somebody gets hurt, and let them post 6+ ERA.
  4. Cuz it's the same Angels team? This team had change in pitching coach under Scioscia and that didn't help, and changed manager and coaches to Ausmus crew and that didn't help either. If Joe Maddon and Callaway can turn that around and keep those guys with injury history (Heaney, Ohtani, Middleton, Canning) healthy, that's great. But before it happens, before Maddon and his crew proves that they can manage to keep pitchers healthy, it's dumb to just expect those guys to be fully healthy all season long. This team's pitchers have been getting injured by walking on the street regardless who the manager (coach) is.
  5. Heaney obviously is one of those guys that has been getting hurt like every year (or every other year) but this team has been sending basically every pitchers to DL every season. Those are pitchers this team sent to DL every seasons. I'm not including those minor pitchers who just pitched several ML games. Just listing the ones that showed promise or was one of the center pieces for the team. 2015 - Heaney, CJ Wilson, Jered Weaver, Shoemaker, Morin 2016 - Skaggs (Rest in peace Tyler), Santiago, G Rich, Street, Heaney, Tropeano, Cory Rasmus, Cam Bedrosian 2017 - G Rich, Alex Meyer, JC Ramirez, Shoemaker, Skaggs, Heaney, Bridwell 2018 - G Rich, Tropeano, Ohtani Shohei, Keynan Middleton, Shoemaker, Blake Wood 2019 - Literally every single one of starting pitchers except for the ones Angels waived mid season (like the Nightmare Harvey, Stratton, etc)
  6. Well, it's not just Ausmus. Since 2015, Angels have been sending entire pitching crew to DL and Angel fans been saying "we gonna be better if everyone gets back healthy next season" and that never freaking happened. At this point, you can't expect any of those glass arms to be healthy next year. IF some of them do, if some of them somehow lives up to their potential, that's a good thing, but you just cannot EXPECT that to happen. It's safer to assume all those guys will be sent to DL again some time during the season and it makes a lot more sense to prepare for those situations cuz that's what's been happening to this team for 5 straight damn seasons.
  7. Ryu is a big nono. If Angels sign Ryu for 4 years, he will spend 2 years on DL. He's never repeating 2019 season again.
  8. This team isn't. They can't start the season with this starting rotation and AA catchers
  9. I hope we see catchers in opening roster that are at least better than Max Stassi and Anthony Bemboom
  10. Good. He's been posting 5+ERA away from Oracle for past 2 seasons and I didn't want Angels to give him 4+yrs nor $15M+ per year.
  11. DDJr and Clase? wtf and Angels couldnt even offer anything better than that? wtf
  12. fck. idk why Angels pulled out of it i was assuming indians wanted Adell or Canning in the package cuz there is no other prospect Angels cant give up for having Corey Kluber for $35M/2yrs if Rangers got him for some shit ass prospects and salary dump ill be so mad. hope not
  13. Im in. I want to see Trout Rendon Ohtani back to back to back against Cole in ALCS, eliminating the Yankees
  14. yes that is true. just 1 year out of 9. but there is no ML team that has most prospects, most flexible sal cap, the best squad right now, and smart front office that wont fk up in next 9 years at the same time so they can have best team now and will be the best for next 9 years. so if cole wanted to take best chance to win a WS every season, he better sign 1 year deal with Yankees, and sign another 1 year deal with the team that looks to have the best chance in 2021, and sign another 1 year deal after that season, vice versa, and you know that isnt happening. he was getting huge, long term contract from Yanks,Angels, or Dodgers and nobody predicts 8-9 years of future. that applies to every teams in the league, not just Junkies. like you said, at the point of his signing, Yankees has the best "chance" to win the chip and cole took that. all im saying is, his decision is right since he took the best chance at this point. you know chances arent guaranteed, Yanks can actually have like 25 guys going to DL next yr and have horrible season. who knows? what im saying is, chance wise, yankees top the Angels and cole is right about that
  15. Well if Yankees dont win a chip in Cole's prime years, they might have an washed up arm taking 35M by the end of his contract. That's the risk Yanks took when offering that contract. Angels did the same and offered 300M/8yrs contract to him too. That's just what you do to beat other teams to get a rare superstar in this league. Yes, he is only 1 of 26 players and in baseball, he alone cant win the WS. We know it better than anybody in the league since Angel fans has Mike Trout and 0 PS win with him. But looking at other 25 players in the team now, Yankees are way better than the Angels. That is just a fact and that isnt even close to contention. If Cole signed the Angels, expecting this team to be better than Yankees immediately, then that is when Cole (and Angels) pinning hopes of winning in 1 player (or 2 with Trout) given current squads. Yankees has much better line up, starting rotation, bull pen than Angels and the only weakness for them was a top of rotation guy who they can give rock to in must win situations, and Gerrit Cole is exactly that. That's why guys are saying he made right decision if his reason was to win a chip. Now, it is up to the Angels to make his choice wrong by winning it before the Yankees (and of course I want that to happen). At this point Angels arent as good as Yanks but they signed Rendon since Cole signed with Yanks, and Angels are also openly pursuing more FA starters and trades for more starters. We dont know if it will work out or not, just have to hope they get some guys that are good, and durable and then we are in the contention.
  16. well, when signing those long term contracts, usually back end of those contracts are just incentives to get those superstars to sign. Angels did the same thing when they were signing Pujols (well he fell apart way quicker than Angels expected but still). Yankees arent looking to win in Cole's 9th year. He doesnt have to predict what will happen at that time. Yanks want to win now, and Cole wants to win in his prime years, starting from 2020. And it's hard to say Cole made wrong choice in that regards
  17. idk why you are so into those predicting 9 years thing, but Cole won't be the same after like 4-5 years. Im 100% sure even Yankees dont expect Cole to be CY contender for full 9 years. They want his first 4-5 years and want to win 1-2 chips in those years. After that, Cole can be all washed up and Yanks will eat up his contract. That's what big market Yankees can do. Angels can sign good starters and may have chance at PS but if you are talking about current roster's potential for next 3 years, Angels has no chance against Yankees regarding WS title. Also, at his point of signing, he didnt even know if Rendon will choose to sign with the Angels and it's not like he was going to have 324M/9yrs and 300M/8yrs contract offers hang out there and wait to see if Angels land Rendon or not
  18. Well it makes sense since Yankees are 103 win team with league's best bull pen and best offense. Only problem they had was they only had mediocre starters that post high 3s to 4 ERAs, and Cole joining there will immediately solve the problem, which makes the Yankees closest team to WS title next year. Angels on the other hand, has trash starting pitching and mediocre offense. It's 70 win team with Mike Trout anyways. So basically all Angels could say was "We have Trout and warm weather here" while Yankees could say "We are in immediate contention if you join us." I find it common sense that Cole chose Junkies over Angels at the point of his signing. I just hope Angels can find a way to build strong team around Trout and kick those Junkies ass in the Post Season. Trout,Rendon,Ohtani rocking Cole in ALCS game 7 will give me multiple O's for sure
  19. never thought of it but I don't see Cole not signing with Yanks at this point
  20. Yup we definitely need at least 2 catchers (1 starting, 1 back up. Stassi and Bemboom are not even good enough for back up) I'd say starting Tommy La Stella in 1B will be better for team's production and use Pujols as pinch hitter and starting DH on Ohtani's off days makes more sense. OF will look different depends on how quickly Adell adjusts to big league level, but if Adell performs as expected (.300 avg, decent power, superb speed) we might have really great top and middle lineup with Adell-Simba-Trout-Rendon-Ohtani-Upton (Fletch being 2nd lead off at #9 spot) I don't know how Joe will line em up but personally, I think it makes more sense to put Trout and Rendon together since Ohtani will have some off days and I would want to put my team's best hitters and full-time starters together in the line up. But I think Trout-Ohtani-Rendon makes good sense too since Ohtani is faster and hits from the left side so it makes harder for opponents to pitch and make pitching changes (especially from 2020 pitchers has to face at least 3 batters once they take the mound)
  21. I like that philosophy since it almost guarantees Puljos will not get much of playing time next season
  22. Ohtani coming back, we got Dylan Bundy, Hoby Milner, and Garrett Williams. They form great starting rotation with Heaney and Canning
  23. Ya forgot Gurriel, Alvarez, Brantly, OF Cameraman and Trashcan
