  1. Agreed. I think that's the minimum you must get at this point. Less than that means no other quality players will join the Angels and result in 75-87 season
  2. Yup, he's a guaranteed .260, 20+HRs, fine D, superb arm guy who is relatively healthy. I don't hate him at all. He was a clubhouse cancer in his younger age but he seemed to be pretty good presence in clubhouse for past 3 seasons. I'm also down for Puig for 1-2yr contract especially if the price tag is reasonable.
  3. Probably $250M/10yrs for Yasiel Puig
  4. Yes I mentioned starting pitching is priority. Problem is, the best options are already gone and Angels better seek for trades or sign risky guys (like Ryu) at this point. If you think this team's bench is not a problem, you are delusional. Look at those bench guys. Rengifo, Thaiss, Tovar, Walsh, Bemboom, Stassi, Ward, etc. Every single on of them has WAR between negative and 1, posting OPS+ way below 100. Every competitive teams have multiple guys who can be a regular starters in weak teams in the bench and this team has none of them. Actually many of them are guys we shouldn't even see in ML opening roster if you want to see the Angels shooting for PS appearance. I know Thaiss is future 1B prospect that the Angels has been pushing for. He's turning 25 and still has potential to be better, but you can't just expect a guy who just batted 0.211 and posted 0.7WAR to immediately become solid regular starting 1B just because he is only 25 and EVEN IF he does, Albert being the best player in the bench means this team's bench is garbage.
  5. well this team needs major upgrades in C,1B,and bench. They were just not priority cuz their starting pitching was the worst in the league (29th in ERA, 30th in Innings pitched) Now that 3 top starting pitchers are off the market and there are only declining pitchers and injury prones left out there, I guess it's better to sign bats to add more firepower (especially middle of order. We can't have Pujols in the middle of lineup and expect to compete) and add more depth in the bench too. Look at the teams we need to compete for the title. AssTrolls, Doyers, Junkies, any team in the Post season this year has better bench players or platoon guys than Angels' regular starter. Angels bench was just filled with AA or AAA players who bat way below Mendoza line and some of em were even batting below .100. Even worse thing is, due to a lot of injuries this team had (just like past 5 seasons), those AA guys were starting majority of games in the 2nd half of the season and it's becoming a trend for this team. Angels need to seek for bench/platoon guys who can actually provide something positive for the team, not those minor leaguers who just plays out there and post negative WAR and bat .150
  6. 100% agreed, and sadly and frankly, I think a lot of answers to your questions are most likely to be "no". That's what makes it worse.
  7. Yes now Rendon is a must. If they can't get him, they better not give old, injury plagued starting pitchers 3+ year contracts and just tank. I'm not down with that maybe Ohtani can be the ace scenario. If he does, that's good. But I don't think we can assume he will be, especially when he is coming back from TJS and had whole year off from pitching. 2015-2019, Angel fans have been saying "maybe we are good if guys are healthy next year", "maybe we are good if pujols bounces back", "maybe we good something something" and every single year this team has been sending entire pitching crew to DL and this team has been getting like 0-1 guy who pitches over 160 innings (and even those guys sucked like Nolasco) + pujols is never bouncing back.
  8. smfh honestly, I don't think any option out there will make the Angels contender. Seriously Ryu? he had 1 great year right before his contract yr after spending 60% of his time in Majors in DL. MadBum is posting 5+ ERA outside of Oracle and is way over 30 YO and he is officially demanding 9 figure contract, which makes 0 sense. All of our current starters either suck, or are injury prones. Maybe just tank until this team can get rid of Puljos and try again
  9. Well I know this team isn't starting the season with Max Stassi and Anthony Bemboom in opening roster. So we are getting at least somebody. Just hoping whoever they get is better than Lucroy (-0.5 fWAR) and Smith (-0.2 fWAR)
  10. I hope their "interest" pays off this off season
  11. I personally don't like MadBum but I mean, this team has 0 starter who can stay healthy and even when they are healthy, those guys all put up ERA between 4.5~9.0 in pitcher friendly Angel Stadium. Basically this team's rotation is total garbage so Angels better sign as many starters as possible
  12. I expected Stras to re-sign with Nats but now that it actually happened, it makes me worried about the Angels
  13. Ryu spent 3.5 years in DL in his 7 seasons in LAD. He's a great starter when healthy but he is almost never healthy. If Angels sign him, I want it to be 1-2 year deal. Not over 3 years. Just too much injury risk
  14. Yup I can always buy em online but I want to see the Angels wearing it more often. Trout and Calhoun looked really nice in those unis
  15. So basically the same uni with Nike logo on top right side. I'm personally hoping that Nike would bring California Angels jerseys back.
  16. C : Bengie Molina 1B : Rod Carew 2B : Howie Kendrick 3B : Chone Figgins SS : Andrelton Simmons LF : Garret Anderson CF : Mike Trout RF : Vladimir Guerrero DH : Shohei Ohtani SP : Jered Weaver CL : Troy Percival
  17. If we don't add any bats, then I don't think we will see the Angels competing for the championship unless we add like 3 great pitchers and build a starting rotation like Dodgers and Astros. This team was ranked 15th in runs scored, 18th in batting avg, 18th in HRs, and 14th in OPS and that is very mediocre numbers even with the presence of Mike Trout. EVEN IF Upton bounces back, Pujols' decline stops, Simba is free from injury and plays like he did in 2017 and 2018, Adell immediately plays well in Majors, Angels offense isn't as good as Yankees', Dodgers', and Astros'. You know that is a lot of positive assumptions and it is likely to be worse in reality. This is not an NBA where mediocre teams make the Play offs and get to the knock out stage. MLB only has 8 PS spots and you have to be top 10 just to play 1 game Wild Card. Sadly, you can't expect your team to have half of the line up batting below .250 and contend for the title. Starting rotation is so terribly bad but that doesn't mean Angels have enough fire power to compete now. They need massive help on the rotation and at least couple of bats (including a starting catcher like you said) to buff up the offense. And to me, it is very difficult task for Eppler cuz this team is already spending a lot (mostly on aging talents)
  18. This team is already ranked 6th in MLB in team salary. Adding Gerrit Cole means this team offered him multi year contract that pays him at least $25M on avg, and adding another pitcher to the rotation + bats to the lineup means Arte has to spend over $250M next year and looking at how he's been filling up the roster in past seasons, I thought that is very unlikely. If Arte goes all in and decides to spend to bring more starters and bats, I'll be glad.
  19. Yup this team simply lacks talents. Not just a sabermatrix like WAR, but look at classic stats as well. Bunch of starters between ERA of 4.5~7.0 and the bottom of line up all batting under .250. If you take a look at championship contenders like Astros, Yankees, Dodgers, etc, they have great core players AND solid players around them + good players off the bench that adds depth to the line up. Angels have great core players like Trout, Simmons(defensively) and Ohtani (if healthy) but they don't have any support around them. If you look at the Angels, guys that produce way less than those bench guys and platoon guys are starting everyday and even hitting in the middle of lineup which gives you clear idea of why this team has been losing 5 straight seasons. This team's starting pitching is horrible, yes, they are ranked 28th in ERA and 30th in QS provided. But adding Gerrit Cole to that will improve horrible rotation to bad rotation and mediocre offense will stay the same, means this team will be around 75~80 wins anyways.
