I love how you assume Ohtani wants an extension now. . . instead of after another stellar year (putting his “fragile, handle with care” tag behind him) where he would be offered substantially more.

I think that is true for the type of fan who would be on this board.  I do detect some bitterness from many fans about the money.

Why do “some posters” constantly seem to defend the owners?
Because it is important to try to have some balance in these discussions rather than just go along with the fans’ habit of disproportionately blaming the owners over the players for literally everything, primarily because. . . It’s really easy to do so when they have an emotional attachment to players over owners.
I do not side with the owners.  I observe that most issues are not one party’s fault but rather that both parties have conflicting interests and they need to work it out.

That’s where it would go.  Truthfully a very small number of minor leaguers matter in terms of being actual future major leaguers.  You need the rest to just have games (two legit prospects can’t play one on one).
So if people are ready to have designations of players like “prospect” and “practice squad” then so be it.
The “prospects” will most certainly be the guys that got signing bonuses large enough to cover their minor league career, and the “practice squad” players will play mostly for fun, get no signing bonus and receive close to minimum wage where they will probably also have a second job.

Convicting Kay of his actual crimes is fine.  commit crimes, be held accountable.
 
But in my book, Kay being guilty doesn’t make Skaggs any less responsible for his own sad, tragic, unnecessary death.  He is still the one most responsible.
