  1. I saw that somewhere erroneously. He hasn’t pitched since 2017, except for the little bit of time at the end of 19, though so at best it’s a minor league invite.
  2. He’s been arguably one of the best 12 pitchers in the NL for the past decade. No problem with 5 years. I’d have given him 6 at 17 per.
  3. Anyone who wouldn’t have wanted Bumgarner at that amount, well you’re nuts. $17M per season for a guy like that?
  4. I think they’ll give him the QO. And expect to pay about that on a 4 year deal. They may also just hit him with QO and expect him to leave using Fletcher or Rengifo at SS. But I don’t know about that. We’ll see next off-season
  5. Bumgarner is a 2, Keuchel a 3. Heaney and Bundy are 4’s. For the record Ryu and Price are 2’s. Kluber is a borderline 1/2. Ohtani can be a 1, but he can also be the best DH in the game. Sooo... I don’t think Either Keuchel or Bumgarner slips to a #4 for at least three more seasons. And I don’t think Bumgarner will. People underrate him because he has a lot of innings on his arm and he was injured in 2017 and 2018, plus his ERA dropped. I think he was a bit bored pitching for a losing club. Put him on a winning team and he’s the guy you want throwing the tough starts. I see experience and reliability. He’s gotta be the #1 choice. And at or around 5-105, I think you can get him. Plus I’d say it would be sweet taking him away from the Dodgers. Keuchel is a bit older but I’d prefer to get him for 2/34 or 3/48.
  6. I’d imagine Bumgarner and Keuchel could be had for 37-48 a year, which is a big expense but doable. I’d think they sign one of these guys though not two.
  7. I’d really like a young guy in a trade that costs at most $12 M over the next two seasons (per year) but that guy doesn’t exist really. Trade for Matt Boyd or Jon Gray or Robbie Ray and then add Bumgarner or Keuchel for around $20 AAV.
  8. Most Baseball publications use their age as of July 1. This is Trout's Age 28 Season in 2020, even though he turns 29 in August. This is Bumgarner's age 30 Season, even though he turns 31 in August. Sale is 31 in March, so it's his Age 31 season, even though he's only 4 months older than Bumgarner. Price is in his Age 34 season, turns 35 end of August.
  9. La Stella probably gets 20 starts at 2nd, maybe 40. Fletcher can play 20 at SS and 20 in LF, and have 10 off too. Rengifo is the odd man out, but he also has the most control. Where does Thaiss fit in?
  10. Am I wrong in thinking that the manager (and pitching coach) switch alone, even with the exact same team as in 2019, would be +10 wins? I was a huge Scioscia fan even in the later years, I thought, the grass isn't always greener...I wasn't a fan of the Ausmus hire, but thought, Doug White will save the day...boy was I wrong about that. But I didn't think the team functioned as a team very well in the later half of the year and injuries just consumed them. The only time I saw them working well as a team was in July. I honestly believe the big differences between 2018 and 2019 was the manager. This team I think would've been 9/10 wins better had they retained Scioscia for 2019. So.. I have that same confidence I had with Scioscia in Maddon and Callaway. I think Callaway gets the best out of several pitchers on the staff, including Dylan Bundy and Griffin Canning, but also Andrew Heaney. This is the right hire, and I think the team will be that much better...even without the adds, but I do expect them to add one significant free agent starter. They may also trade for someone, but I don't think Canning is the 6th guy, I think that's left to Sandoval, Barria, and Pena.
  11. Like Justin Smoak/ Mitch Moreland? Or do you think Thaiss can be that guy? Or Walsh? My five potential .900’s are Trout, Rendon, Ohtani, Adell, Upton... La Stella, Simmons, Fletcher, Goodwin, should all be .750-850 ish.
  12. It’s possible the Angels have 5 players with OPS over .900. That’s a murderers row.
  13. I’d say it really even been 15 years with a few ok years.
  14. From the Cubs they could get Darvish or Contreras or possibly Bryant. From the Red Sox they could get Price, Eovaldi, possibly Betts.
  15. I'd like both a 4 WAR pitcher and an 6-7 WAR 3B. And Fletcher is the least likely of those three to be traded, but he has versatility. Heck he can be the starting left fielder (Upton in RF), to start the season, if they want.
  16. I meant that pretty much every team in the majors shuffles their infield around for Rendon. There are only a few exceptions. Houston maybe, though I think they'd find a way to put him and Bregman in the same lineup. Oakland likely moves Chapman to 2nd. Cubs would move Bryant to the OF. Rockies probably move Rendon to 1st in favor of Arenado. And the Angels should not worry about where they are playing Rengifo, Fletcher, or LaStella if it means getting Rendon.
  17. Who do the Angels have that's a 8-WAR guy (MVP candidate) making league minimum? Context...dude. Context.
  18. If the rest of the off season consisted of: Signing Anthony Rendon to 8 / 260 with an Opt Out after 4 years. First two years he makes 25, then jumps to 35 per season. (32.5 AAV) Signing Madison Bumgarner to 5/119 including an 10 M buyout in year 6. First two years he makes 17, then jumps to 25. (22 AAV) Trading Jam Jones, D'Shawn Knowles/Jordyn Adams, Jose Suarez/Jaime Barria, and Luis Rengifo to the Cubs for Willson Contreras, Yu Darvish and $10M ($5M [payable in each in 2020 and 21)...Adds roughly $22M in real payroll in 2020. Would you consider it a successful off season? Lineup: Fletcher 2B Rendon 3B Trout CF Ohtani DH Upton LF Contreras C Adell/Goodwin RF LaStella/Pujols 1B Simmons SS Rotation: Bumgarner Darvish Ohtani Bundy Heaney Canning
  19. Rendon is a 7 WAR guy... you do it, no matter who in the infield it displaces.
