Years from now, I'm not going to be sitting around talking about Trout's WAR.  I'm going to talk about the things I saw him do on the field with my own two eyes.  I don't think I've ever had conversations about the stats of the guys I've seen - I talk about the things that created actual memories for me.

Pitchers can't throw inside any more.  Heaven forbid they hit a guy.  Today's game wouldn't tolerate guys like Nolan Ryan or Don Drysdale.
Instant replay has robbed us of the old fashioned manager vs. umpire arguments.  Now some fans want an electronic strike zone?
It's like all the personality is gone from baseball.

I wish I could be that optimistic.   The rotation has to get healthy, and in turn Eppler acquire a closer and key setup man, for them to even approach 88 wins.
They would have to go 49-39 to reach 88 wins.   The M's would have to go 41-48 to also reach 87 wins.
Tall order on the Halos part, without a healthy rotation and without a real closer and real setup man

Fire mike scioscia and the GM. We need Fresh & Young New Blood running the show. Mike is washed up and the GM is know jerry depoto. Mike year after year goes  with this garbage bullpen and our GM can't figure a way to pick out Talent. Why did we keep this Bullpen at the beginning of the season and we didn't get upgrades take a look at what Jerry dipoto is spending on his bullpen. I'm starting to wonder if Artie really wants to win.

I would hit him third. We need to maximize his AB while getting runners on in front of him. The problem I see with him hitting 4th is he will be leading off the second inning too often, which will limit his total ABs over the season. Hitting second gets him more AB than hitting forth, but possible fewer RBI chances, but only in the first inning. I would like to see him hit third like Mays, Mantle, and Ruth did during their time.

That's what it's really about AO,  Scioscia knows Bedrock has been stinking the place up but he isn't going to say so in the press.

IMO this really needs to be Albert's last season as a player for the Angels and the only way that is going to happen is if the Angels bench him or buy out the remainder of his contract. Either way Albert will get what he signed for.
I'm not going to pretend that I know what the Angel organization needs to do going forward but what I do know is that not many organizations could have been able to contend with the amount of injuries that we have had this year and the previous two. There wouldn't be nearly the negativity here had our luck not been so bad. The final blow has been losing Othani.
There's only so much that can be absorbed and our farm system hasn't been up to the task of helping with the injuries and other needs. I'm afraid it's going to be another long season.

It was probably always going to be fools gold to expect this rotation to throw 170-180 innings each, since they were all out of action for very significant time over the past 1-2 seasons, including Ohtani only pitching some 40 innings in 2017.
For that reason, it was always going to be a challenge to get to the WC game, especially with a questionable bullpen.
The year to shoot for would seem to have been 2019 anyway.   At this point, Heaney, Skaggs, and probably Barria will all be in line to pitch at least 170 innings in 2019.    Questions still abound though about the ability of Tropeano, Richards, and Ohtani to get there in 2019.
There will be good depth in 2019 though to back them up (Canning, Suarez, and Castillo especially).
Just need to address the bullpen issues.    Middleton is still uncertain.  Parker/Anderson are fine as the #3/#4 guys.  Alvarez is fine as the innings guy.   Ramirez is fine in a support role.   They DESPERATELY need a closer and key setup guy.

I didn’t forget.  They need to pay him what he’s owed and move him into his post playing days role.  AKA the “personal services” contract.  Albert isn’t going to make a deal for the Angels because he simply doesn’t have to.  He’d be out of his mind to not get every single cent.  I’m sorry, there’s no reason to believe he’ll give the Angels a break.  Would you do your employer any favor when it comes to what they owe you ? Of course not.  And you’d be wholly justified in that.  Just as Albert is.

If the Angels really want Albert out of the line up they'll have to eat the rest of his contract. He's not going to quit, he'll sit on the bench and collect before he'd leave all that money on the table.
Unfortunately Albert was paid for the great years and success he had in St. Louis. His Angel career has paled in comparison and wasn't worth the money but it is what it is.

No one is gonna talk Albert out collecting every goddamn cent of his contract.  The Angels signed the deal.  They have to pay.  The money is gone.  Whether they allow him to keep killing the team is another issue entirely.  And one they need to resolve soon.  Albert needs to be paid out and moved into his front office role.

If I can summarize, you want every premiere free agent signed and for trades you say "gut the farm if you have to."
Except the Angels have lived at the luxury cap limit and there was no farm to gut.
The only thing you can do under these circumstances is try to stay competitive while you manage the payroll to find space and build the farm.
Yes there have been some missed opportunities  (like I thought when Adrian Beltre signed with Texas rhat was the best free agent fit ever to get away), but to conclude that Arte doesnt want to win and is only interested in the "illusion" of trying to win is garbage.
Arte went all in one notorious offseason about six years ago and that aggressive approach caused damage rather than fixing anything.
We all want a better roster and I think a highly disciplined approach to expensive free agents is the right approach.  One might be worth it we will see.
But I entirely disagree that this owner is not all in or that the moves are to great an illusion.

I'm not a Scioscia nutswinger but I'd laugh if he were given an extension.

Scioscia definitely made some shitty decisions in the 9th but at some point these guys have to stop blowing leads. They do that more than any bullpen in baseball. That's not on Scioscia.
