We should take our time with him. We should try to avoid another Marsh or Adell situation where it seems they rushed them out of necessity for the big league club.

No, but I saw Adell crush one against a major league pitcher.

They have won 14 of 17.
O’hoppe hit his 9th homer in 21 games since being traded. Neto also hit a homer.

trying to temper my expectations but it’s hard to not get excited about what’s developing in AA. Neto, O’hoppe, Paris, Joyce, Soto etc…

Yes, apparently he never thought that maybe those guys wanted to see how he and his coaches were going about "implementing" the information they were giving him.  Guess they didn't like what they saw.

Maddon being upset that Montgomery was in the dugout is the funniest thing I have read.  Fuck off Joe!  I am glad you are bitter.
I need to apologize again, because I used to say that Maddon was a more quotable Scioscia.  I am sorry I ever thought Maddon was in the same ballpark of manager as Scioscia.
If there is one take away from Maddon’s time as manager here it should be that, he was not in fact, the brain trust behind the 2002 championship team.

You’ve never been at odds with someone that you liked or cared about?  It literally happens all the time in leadership.

You can disagree and still like someone/be sad to see them go.  He could have been sad he wasn't able to make it work.   But if you're trying to build something and you have someone running interference the entire time -- I imagine that would get old no matter how much you like a guy.
A lot of this analytics stuff is about trusting the process.  Maddon says he believes in the stuff, but he has his own view of how the process goes.  I just doesn't seem like it was ever going to work between them.   I genuinely wonder if he didn't throw Eppler under the bus.

Dude talks out both sides of his mouth.  The short version is..  I like stats, but on my terms.   Openly admitting he was at odds/argued with Friedman, Theo and now Misanian -- but yeah.  Everyone else is the problem.
Maddon: “I still love the information. I utilize the information. Information is good. It’s the imposition. I mean, it’s to the point now where actually, our general manager had an analytical guy dressing in the coaches’ room. I mean, that shouldn’t occur. That’s an imposition.”
But it’s an imposition Maddon has no interest in signing up for again. If he gets to run another team, “I want analytics,” he said. But he wants that data presented to the coaching staff so the staff can implement it. And that, he warned, is not how the game is trending.
Maybe the reason they had a guy dressing with you and another on your bench is because they saw you ignore defensive data for two years because reasons.

Reading the article got me optimistic for a sec or two.  Reed saying all the right things.  Short and quick.  Power will come.  Power will come.  And then I realize his swing hasn't fundamentally changed and he's still trying to hit every pitch over the rock pile.  And the thing about Joe is that the power is actually already there.  So it's not even that 'the power will come' but being quick to the ball and making contact.  His exit velo's are elite.  Dial it back a shade and just connect.
Not to pour cold water on what Luis is doing, because he's gotten better, but there is a shade of smoke and mirrors to it in my opinion.  The k-rate is down and the hard hit rate is up but that walk rate is atrocious.  And he's swinging at balls out of the zone at a higher rate than he's ever done.  Some of that could be a holdover from earlier in the year.
I'm not a swing guru, but I'd take all the things out of Jo's swing that require him to be on time.  Hands start where they should end up.  No stride.  Foot up and down at the most.  And if you look at Luis right now, that's exactly what they did.  His hands don't move hardly until they're on the way to the ball and it's pick up the foot and put it down.

Momentum doesn't mean shit when you have 5 months off. It is the most bullshit idea in baseball that finishing strong the last month while still landing in the bottom third has any carryover effect.

The Angles AA teams have been a wasteland of hopelessness for who knows how long with a hodgepodge of young guys with no talent, minor league veteran free agents to take up roster space and the occasional actual prospect.  The lack of overall talent at the AA level has been the single most obvious indicator of how poor the system has been for a long time.
Again, the system still lacks a few of those really high end guys that would propel it to the next level but for me it's most exciting to see this because it speaks to a much different level of depth that hasn't existed for a long time.
It's still not as far along as I'd like it to be as of yet, but now the system isn't as dependent on 5 or 6 guys and whether they have great years or really poor ones.  With the rest of the system really just filler.  It's more like there are 15-20 guys and some will have good years, and some will have bad years and most of them will progress as expected.
At it's low point, there were like 10 guys to even talk about.  Then 20.  30.  40.  And now it's like 50.  And hopefully that will continue to build and or refresh as guys graduate.  And then take appropriate leaps when you are able to grab that 60 grade guy.  Or even a couple of them but it won't go back being a shit show if those guys move up or you make a trade or a few of them don't work out as expected.
I like to rip on Dipoto so I'll go ahead and do it again.  They've built themselves a decent/good team of late.  But their farm was the talk of the town for a couple years.    Yet one trade big trade and a couple of graduations and they're back to one of the worst systems in all of baseball.  They better pray that the window they're trying to open here is enough because they've pretty much blown their load and an injury or two will that much more challenging to recover from.  Kinda reminds me a bit of where the halos were is 2012.  Good team.  Ended up being able to put together a great regular season in 2014.  Then the shit started to hit the fan.
