I like how he was writing down "notes" when Ohtani was speaking, as if he didn't have a copy of the script himself

My son definitely loves baseball, but he's as sick of the Angels as I am. We are traveling a lot this year and plan to go to games at other ballparks. I'm not putting any more money into the team until Arte sells or they put a winning product on the field.

At the start of the off-season Angels stated they were going to be very aggressive. Considering how the off-season went, don't you think asking "what the hell happened" is a fair question? If at the onset the angels said they were rebuilding this wouldn't be a question. 

Pointless. Total waste of time. Why bother reading it if you're not going to take any questions? Just release it now.  It's not going to make questions go away. 

Hard to defend the 180 his lawyers made.  I don't really have a clue if he was betting but dude knew he was paying off his bookie and the rules are pretty clear.
If the next story (because there have been 3???) is that he wasn't aware it was an illegal bookie when he paid the debts then how is that any different than all the players popped for PEDs that claimed they didn't know it was a banned substance.

This sounds like a fairly reasonable Angels employee salary.

It’s funny that Trout and Rendon were the contracts that broke Arte. Gary Mathews, Cj Wilson, Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, just off the top of my head should have been the contracts that put more of a focus on the farm system and less short sighted expensive moves. 
 
The greatest Angel of all time and a panic signing of Rendon(also orchestrated by Arte) are what made him go full rebuild mode. 
 
They should have done this in 2017 or 2018 when it was sorely needed… 

A couple of people have made comments like this, but I'm about 99.9999% certain that if (in the extremely unlikely chance) Ohtani gets suspended for a season, he loses the deferred portion of that season's salary, in addition to the $2M in current payout. 

It looks like the betting was being done with an illegal bookmaker though.  So even if there's no baseball betting, there's legal implications that could be way worse.

The story changing and not fully adding up adds another wrinkle to the whole thing.

Season may suck but the "Shoheinfraud" might be entertaining for a while.  It's going to be pretty interesting when nothing happens despite the clear violation of the CBA.

pretty unfortunate we as fans have to suffer through what… 14-15 years now of a subpar product, because Arte Moreno and the constant carousel at GM make poor player personnel decisions. 

There was 1 way to be decently competitive this year and it was to spend some money. And then he decides this is the year he grabs his check book and goes home? 
 
even if rebuilding the farm and not losing a draft pick was the goal, there were ways to go about showing the fans and Mike Trout we are still commited to a playoff pursuit. (JD Martinez, Davis, etc)

Including DH, there are enough ABs to go around for Adell, Moniak and Hicks to all get enough ABs for them to show something. Maybe someone gets hurt. Maybe someone plays much better. Maybe someone plays much worse.

And they’re definitely not going to just toss away Suarez for nothing. He’s actually been decent in Arizona. (A scout I trust said he liked how he looked.) The guy is 26 years old and was good for 200+ innings in 21-22 and bad for about 30 in 23. 

I’m thinking 70 wins will be a stretch this year. 

Arturo is such a dbag. Sell the damn team. We’ve gone from wasting trout to wasting trout and ohtani back to wasting trout. I’m guessing Perry doesn’t come back even if asked. This reeks of arte pulling the budget.
 

That would make sense if Perry didn’t blow $33 million on a reliever that has only ever been good for 6 months on the rays. Been crap outside of that. If we are rebuilding and taking flyers on tradeable relievers how is a $11 million dollar reliever tradeable

What did Arte say that made you think the Angels were going to be active? I'm genuinely curious, as I had the opposite impression.
I'm not sure why anyone thought they were going to make another significant signing at this point. 

Feels like a masked rebuild.  Go with a bunch of young players, sign a bunch of RPs that can be traded off at the deadline for organizational filler at worst.  The reality they haven't made a single depth signing is telling IMO.

I want Ohtani kicked out of the league and the Dodgers to be on the hook for the contract, but I also want him to be completely oblivious and innocent in this so Blarg can look like Blarg again
