Chicago color guy just said, "Neto is like a quarterback checking his options, realizing he has a slow catcher and takes the out at first base."

I've been a fan only a few years less. I don't know if I've ever found the team so disheartening.
The 80s teams were pretty good, though while I was a fan from about 1981 on, I didn't really start following them closely until 1987. That began a dark era through 2001, with 1995 being the high and low point. But they were just consistently mediocre, so while the last couple months of 95 sucked, I was used to mediocrity the whole way through. Plus there was a certain joy to finally having a solid group of home-grow guys in Salmon, Edmonds, Anderson, and a bit later, Erstad and Glaus.
2002-09 was the Golden Age, and while they didn't fare well in the playoffs after 02, at least they were there - and some exciting series'.
After that, though, shit went down hill. The team was actually fairly good through 2015, but since 2016 has been dogshit. What makes it especially painful is a combination of A) Trout and Ohtani, the franchise's two greatest players ever, and B) tantalizing hints that next year things will get better.
And it is always next year, or has been. What I find so distressing about this season is that they're actually fairly talented on paper. They've got a stacked lineup, a solid rotation, and a better bullpen than the last few years. This "should" be a 90-win team, imo. But they can't build momentum, Rendon is hurt again, and Trout may have dropped a level, and it looks like Ward's 2022 was a fluke.
So yeah, I find myself less forgiving of their mediocrity this year. Enough is enough. At this point, if they don't make the postseason this year, I'd rather they just go the route of fire-sale, and basically get rid of anyone they can over about the age of 25-26. I'd much rather go through a few year period of rebuilding from almost nothing, then more seasons like the Eppler-Minasian Era.

I wouldn't say a 85-88 win team is a good team. Above average but that likely does not make the playoffs, certainly not on the low-end of that range. I had a lot of optimism given that the floor of this team seemed much higher than previous seasons and I still have some optimism, but a series like this is really difficult to stomach.

I think the Ohtani criticism is people preparing their hearts for Ohtani's likely exit.

TroutField got a reaction from DMVol in Angels select Ben Joyce, place Matt Moore on 15-day IL (right oblique strain), transfer Austin Warren to 60-day IL, outright Reyes Moronta
So a minimum of 35 days for a grade 1 strain and he has a grade 2…

sounds like 45-60 days plus whatever time he needs to rehab.

Of course.  However when they teamed up in Boston ot seemed like they always came through in big moments.
As great as Trout and Ohtani has been, i havent noticed either of them carry the team when they need it the most.

Very true. They just don’t play consistently enough to be that team… if it’s not the bullpen sucking, it’s the starting pitching, if it’s not that it’s the bats going to sleep, if it’s not the offense it’s bad defensive plays. This is just flat out not a very good team and it shows

everything is clicking for Texas. Everything has clicked for the angels like once over the past 15 years and that was in 2014

When Trout led off the 9th and Gubi said "His last walkoff was in 2015," it depressed me.
He hasn't had a walkoff home run in eight years?
Maybe this is just going to be another season of hovering around .500, getting made fun of by the national media, and watching a dozen teams play in October while the Angels do not.
At least I'm used to it.

    Well said.
It's hard to get too excited about four-game win streaks knowing that they are capable of doing some of the dumbest shit imaginable at the drop of a hat.
(On the plus side, it's hard to get too disappointed with them anymore. I pretty much expect these kind of games now.)

The schedulers did Miami no favors on this current road trip. They went to San Fran for 3 then Colorado for 4 and now coming to Anaheim without an off day after using 6 pitchers tonight. We should be able to pounce on a road weary team that's ready to go home. One name to worry about is noted Angel killer Yuri Gurriel who's had a couple monster games in Denver. Hopefully he gets a marine layer wake up call. No excuse not to win this series and maybe even look for another sweep

They are actually fairly average: 14th in OPS and 10th in batting average with RISP (9th and 6th in AL). With that said, I view this offense as certainly top 5 in the AL so it is disappointing from that measure.

Trout’s 4th multi hit game of the month of May.

curious to see what was the lowest number of multi hit games in a month so far in Trout’s career.
