ukyah reacted to Stradling in Angels select Long Beach State LHP Adam Seminaris 141st overall
We need serviceable league minimum 3-5 starters, so nothing wrong with this draft. Now lets see us go balls out on $20k guys.

ukyah got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Angels select Louisville LHP Reid Detmers 10th overall
the dude was rated a top 10 pick and the angels took a starting left handed pitcher at the 10 spot in a draft that didn't have any standouts this year. i have no problem with any team going SLHP. it's a perfectly good pick and maybe better than that. it's hard to chart makeup.

You've got the MLB, the owners, Major League Baseball, the guys who own the teams, the league, the ownership, the commissioner's office.
So many different parties involved.

Sure that's one way of looking at it. I personally think there are too many sides to please for a single game to be played this season: MLB, MLBPA, owners, and TV networks. That's not a negotiation, that's chaos.

MLB and the owners are one in the same.

I don't expect the owners to agree to this.
We'll be close when you hear about the owners talking salary deferrals and the players discussing pay reduction.

When I think of "crafty lefty" I think of Jamie Moyer.
So he's definitely not a crafty lefty.

In the video that @CanadianHalo posted there is a pitch they called 95 mph. That is good enough for a left handed starter. And when you throw a change and that curve ball, 95 is plenty.

ukyah reacted to AngelsLakersFan in 538: Owners trying to screw the players to typical profits
Yes. Arte is spending $160 million either way because he's bringing in ~$200 million a year and his team is appreciating by another $25-50 million annually. If he doesn't sign Hamilton he signs Torii Hunter and a pitcher to get to that $160 mil. When Hamilton gets cut, he stays at $160 mil and brings in a replacement level left fielder who doesn't change the payroll. When Hamilton gets dumped on the Rangers for ~$7 million in savings the Angels bring in a ~$7 mil left fielder in Cameron Maybin. When Hamilton's $25 mil contract is off the books the Angels bring in a $25 mil LF in Justin Upton.
Arte sets the budget, the profits are locked in, the fans and the organization are the ones bearing the risk of the signings.

ukyah reacted to Angels in 2030 in 538: Owners trying to screw the players to typical profits
I do not think you quite understand what ownership "risk" means. Those were bad signings and on-the-field business decisions, but not risks of ownership. You could even make the argument that the Pujols signing was a business success considering the additional TV revenue rights/contract, advertising, merchandise sales, brand building, etc. created by such. On the field he was not a success to the team win/loss wise, but financial wise it's VERY debatable.

If they can’t live on that, F them.
The average salary for a player in the MLB stood at 4.36 million U.S. dollars in 2019.

if i was a player i would not negotiate down from the contract we just negotiated a month ago. it's a hill i'd die on.

There’s zero way the players should accept two thirds or more of their salary being cut. There is too many ripple affects that could come from this down the road.

Yep, I would walk away from this if I was a player. This isn’t just about this year, it is about future negotiations as well.
Here is where I think it will land. I think the players will get the full prorated salary for half the season, however I think you are going to see 25-40% of that deferred.
