Depends on the situation. If he’s in a position to drive in runs, then by all means. He doesn’t need to chase, but in those instances he also doesn’t need to be taking a pitch trying to walk if it’s an inch low or an inch outside.
There have been plenty of at bats where there’s been a man in scoring position and two outs, with first base open, and he ends up walking. Not because they pitched around him by not giving him anything to hit, but because he got the benefit of the calls on pitches that could have gone either way, but were extremely hittable especially for him. He’s got to realize that working a walk there doesn’t help especially with the struggles of the guy behind him. I’d rather him take a shot at driving a ball that’s barely out of the zone low than letting it go, taking a walk, and they end up not scoring anyway.

Isn't there a 6 or 7 year minor league vet somewhere in the system that is never going to make it that they can promote for a week and give him enough at bats to get one hit in the majors as a kind gesture to him before they release him?
I would far rather root for a guy like that to get his one and only mlb hit than watch Valbuena keep sucking.
Sherman Johnson.
That would be cool.

Astros teeing off on a Dodger pitcher? Sounds familiar.

Im blacked out. Was it a strike? M announcers said the call was late.
About 4-5 inches outside.

I have an Athletic subscription.
That post is 1000000% bullshit, the article is about how he had the disease and all his old teammates reached out to him.
Then you read the wrong article, because that is exactly what’s in it.

Yankees have comeback from 5-0 in the fifth and have tied it in the 8th on 2R HR from Sanchez.
I would pay good money to hear Dave Sims’ call of that home run.

Not much different than several of his SLC starts this year. Likely just managing his innings/pitches knowing he will be pitching for the Angels next week.

I want them to acquire your typical fourth outfielder type of guy, someone who is having a decent season and can step in and give us more than .175 batting average and play a solid right fielder. Then when Kole finds his way the new dude is our fourth outfielder.
Someone like Leonys Martin would work. He kinda sucks but if you squint real hard he’s the type of player that could be just good enough and just versatile enough to fit temporarily then be a good role player if everyone’s healthy.

Is it just me or did he do that workout in khakis?

In other news, the Mariners have selected nothing but college players so far, something the MLB.com guys went out of their way to point out and question on the broadcast today. Never change, Dipoto.

I don't know. I just assume he can't play for the A's if he doesn't sign before the deadline and can't play in the NCAA if he's under contract with the A's.
I think it'll be similar to what we ended up doing with Torii Hunter Jr. We signed him, with the understanding that he would finish his senior season for football, then start his baseball career after that.

No bias here. Ohtani has thrown mostly nothing but strikes on 0-2 and 1-2 counts. That's called "pitching to contact". And luckily, the contact they made didn't end up being hits.
Ohtani is the last pitcher one would want to pitch to contact
No it’s called missing your spot. Maldonado is not calling for a hanging breaking ball or splitter right down the chute.

No, this is on Maldonado. Ohtani is throwing hittable strikes on 0-2 and 1-2 counts. Ohtani needs to shrug him off before his ERA skyrockets. He needs to pitch for the strikeout and not to contact.
WTF are you even talking about? If Ohtani does in fact throw a mistake pitch that ends up right down the middle on an 0-2 count, it isn’t because the catcher told him to. Your bias is way too obvious.

The only reason they left him in was because he could get a save by finishing the game, which is stupid. There’s no reason for him to throw 30+ pitches in a game where we’re ahead by 6.

It says right there in the article that this medical report was distributed to teams after he was posted. So literally every team knew what this “breaking news” says.
No idea where anyone gets the idea he or his agent was hiding something.

What I would like to know is how the Yankees can take the payment from the Marlins (30 million) off their luxury tax number if it’s conditional on him not opting out? What if he does opt out... when does the lack of payment figure into their salary numbers?
Basically what I’m asking is how can the Yankees get a credit towards their luxury tax number contingent on something that hasn’t happened yet?

That's what I was thinking....though IDK if a team is allowed to do that or not
For th Braves prospects, you can use either this year’s pool or next year’s. Up to you. You just can’t combine the two. The Maitan deal won’t be official until he takes his physical, which likely won’t be until Ohtani has already decided.
-
What if the extra million wasn’t to offer Ohtani more but a fallback in case we don’t get him?
If we don’t sign him, we can cover Maitan’s bonus from this year’s pool and still have our entire allotment for next years’s crop of international FA. If we didn’t get the extra million, Maitan’s bonus has to come from next year’s pool which limits our options if we don’t get Ohtani.
