  1. This new flood of information has all the signs of his agent leaking things because maybe he knows who he wants to play for, but he’s not getting the offer he wants. No news for weeks, if not more, and all of a sudden we’ve heard the Dodgers, Blue Jays, and Mets all within days. Rosenthal even weirdly brought up the Twins, until someone put him in his place immediately after he reported it.

To me, it’s not much different than when Heyman or some other idiot brings up “mystery teams” being involved on a free agent when that player isn’t getting what he wants.

They would not have learned what they did if they didn't give players immunity.  They would have had a huge fight on their hands with MLBPA if they tried to suspend certain players.... and all of em knew.....so how does that work

MLB fucked up. By allowing this to go down so easily. But their response  since has been ok.

They didn't learn anything new by giving them immunity anyway.  You think any of the Astros players gave them the whole truth as to what went down?  All they did was confirm the stuff for which there was already a ton of evidence.

Pretty good deal for the players.  Can't get punished, and without anything viable to contradict their statements, they give the league about 25% of the truth and make the investigators happy.

The league will officially have become a joke when pitchers and managers start getting suspended for drilling Astros hitters, and have therefore suffered a greater punishment than guys who actually cheated the game for 3 years.

One has nothing to do with the other. Dodgers would have still made the deal if Arte didn’t react the way he did and cancel.

They can say whatever they want now that making the trade wasn’t going to happen. No one will ever know if the Dodgers would have tried to change the terms or not (I’m guessing yes) because Arte left the table before that situation arose.

  4. Manfred gave the players full immunity in return for finding out what actually took place. For better or worse, that was the trade off.

And I agree... no way was he going to suspend any players or do anything drastic like institute a playoff ban or anything like that. Anything that torpedoed the organization in any way is bad for business.

  5. As for the players not getting punished, while that sort of sucks since they're actually the ones that took advantage of the system, it's understandable.  Guessing the league was able to get an accurate account of what was going on by giving the players immunity in exchange for full cooperation with the investigation.

When all this stuff first came out, my guess was Reddick was a central figure.  Don't know if that's who you're referring to.  Obviously Beltran has been mentioned in relation to everything for a while.

    1. We didn’t offer Marsh, the Indians asked for Marsh based on this thread.

    2. This was never about Jeff. His tweet was posted as a reply after I asked why?

    3. The why hasn’t changed. I asked why the Indians would ask one team for prospects and another team for MLB players. It seemed strange to me.

It stands to reason that the Indians were looking for a certain type of MLB-ready player. Since we didn’t have that type of player, it’s not surprising they were asking for more in “value” from our prospects, since well...they’re prospects. They’re not a guarantee.

Correct. The MLBTradeRumors article was released at 8:36pm while Rosenthal’s was at 5:48pm. I hope it’s true.

It says right in that article that a *later* report said they were out. So that is the current state of things, at least as far as the national reporters know.

I think the best case scenario is the Angels called the Indians bluff and told them they’re out, and maybe Cleveland will circle back to them with a more realistic proposal at some point. But not counting on that being the case.

  8. Lol at “Eppler was outbid” as if he was the one who decided how much to offer.

This sucks, especially since it seemed like we were waiting for an opportunity like this for the last 2 years. But despite Arte claiming he’s “all in” clearly he isn’t if they’re trading away salary looking for money to spend. So if the budget has its limits, we are much better off getting multiple pieces instead of just one guy.

this is starting to feel a lot like Kawhi going to the Clippers instead of the Lakers....I have a bad feeling about this

Except in this situation, the Angels are the Clippers and the Yankees are the Lakers. Clippers were always seen as the logical destination but no one heard a word about them until they actually signed him, while all the blowhard media folks were reporting every little detail of the Lakers and Raptors efforts.

Right now, Eppler is looking like a genius for not being willing to discuss Marsh in any trades. Teams knew about his potential before, but scouts are seeing it all come together in the AFL and have to be salivating.

The personalities are completely different, but I think you're seeing a young Josh Hamilton in Brandon Marsh.

You keep saying this, but that's not what Eppler said.  Clearly based on this quote, Adell was the only one not made available.

    https://www.latimes.com/sports/angels/story/2019-07-31/angels-max-stassi-trade-catcher-astros-deadline-pitching-tigers

“We were open to moving” prospects, Eppler said. “Just about every one of them, but one, was talked about in some form or another.”

Again, the only info I have which is what we collectively have because it's been shared is that Brandon Marsh was not on the negotiating table in trades.

So the Angels either aren't willing to discuss him with other teams at all, or no one has offered anything that would warrant paying this price.

I don't believe Brandon Marsh will be traded. I think the Angels will find a spot for him. I don't know how that will happen. Maybe Upton moves to 1B and DH with Adell in LF and Marsh is RF, maybe Upton is traded, maybe Marsh moves to 1B....

Either way, I expect Marsh will be in our lineup everyday beginning in 2021.

Didn’t Eppler say at the deadline that he put everyone’s name in trade discussions other than one guy (obviously Adell)?

Also, even if Adell gets a starting job next year and is a reasonable everyday player (decent chance) and Kole Calhoun departs somehow (also decent chance) that leaves the Angels with Brian Goodwin and Mike Hermosillo/Matt Walsh/Taylor Ward (?) as dedicated OF depth.  That’s fine.  But it’s not spectacular or anything.
