I believe Hunter would be a very good fit for the team. You can bat him second or somewhere in the middle of the lineup. He still has a descent glove in the OF.
A good choice for DH if he becomes affordable. Also a good choice for the fans.

Nice if Wilson gets his shit together, Richards is healthy, and Shoemaker is able to pick up where he left off. Otherwise it's incredibly iffy. I'm really hoping for a FA signing to push Shoe into the number 5 role, and Santiago as the main swing man.

Always good to have a plan.  I think he can do it.

Astros fans think we won the trade, too. From astro's board:

"Alex, I'll take "Who the #### is Hank Conger?" for $1,000.
What kind of dumb### move is this? To trade a promising young pitcher for a backup catcher?!? Uh, what happened to Max Stassi?!?
Oh man, this is just flat out dumb "

not one fan has posted saying they like the trade :

I'll say this...Madison Bumgarner is almost in the hall of fame, already. How he does in the World Series...just amazing. Bruce Bochy for not putting Lincecum in when it mattered AT ALL (not giving into fan peer pressure)..I'll give him credit for that, also.

With that said...take away every post seasons team number one starter ( that wasn't injured)...Lester, Weaver, Tillman, Kershaw, Wainwright, Zimmerman, etc etc...the Giants were out in five games if you take Shields off the Royals and Bumgarner off the Giants.

He carried San Francisco more than Jordan did the Bulls this post season.

Then lose in Game 7 of the World Series.  I cant imagine how crappy those Royals fans must feel right now.  They get all hyped up for a month straight in belief that their curse (if you want to call it that) would be lifted.  Now they have to go home knowing it was all for nothing.

Theres an old Phil Jackson quote from a while back, about how losing in the Finals is the worst possible feeling and outcome.  I would have to agree with that.  As gutwrenching as our outcome was, the Royals is much worse.

hats4bats reacted to The Ghost of Bob Starr in Cardinals OF Oscar Taveras dies in a car accident
I feel for the victims' families, as I do all victims who lose their lives prematurely. I've dealt with it myself, losing friends at 14 and 30 to cancer.
There's an interesting observation here. People die in car crashes every day. We also have a lot of senseless deaths. In Southern California over the last 10 days or so we've had numerous kids killed, one out in IE, a 9-yr old killed in gang crossfire in Santa Ana I believe, a toddler killed by a drunk driver, a hit and run near a school.
Nobody really bats an eye. I could look in the hangout forum, but I doubt many of these would are in there.
But you throw a jersey on someone who meets the same unfortunate fate, and there is an outpouring of emotion and thoughts. The commentary is quite quizzical.
This isn't an observation on this board per se, as i began noticing this on Twitter as the accident news unfolded yesterday. 95% of it felt disingenuous to me. Having worked in news for a long time I used to write this copy. Aside from the minimal normal level of grief for the loss of a life (which waned over time) I wrote these same sentiments on a nightly basis.
It really appeared to me that the baseball writers I followed, were throwing out a lot of "heartfelt messages" when really they were trying to jump the gun and report it before the next scribe.
Obviously the sentiments were sincere for anyone who met this man, or worked within the Cardinals organization. And I'm not saying that any of the posts yesterday from others were filled with false mourning.
Just amazes me how much feeling and sentiment someone has when a person in a sports jersey dies or meets the same fate as a non-sports entity.
If I posted a story about man dies in a common crash on a local freeway in the Hangout, I might expect comments on the freeway, the car he was driving, the time of day, and the traffic headache the accident caused. I doubt Id see the outpouring of grief that I've read on these three pages of posts.
Slap a sports uniform on him, and then the posts become a lot more emotional. Very interesting, at least to me.

I've never understood what this is supposed to imply. All it states, at least if you follow the logic of it strictly, is that we weren't the best team 5 of the 6 times. Some people seem to use it to show that we were good but "ran into a buzzsaw - what can you do?" But it doesn't show that we were good at all. Using the info provided it is impossible to determine whether we were the 2nd best team in the playoffs or the worst team in the playoffs. All it shows is that we weren't the best. We already knew that.

Unfortunately, Arte isn't going to eat Scioscia's large contract (otherwise he probably would've been long gone by now).
Too bad because we could use a manager who isn't a prehistoric dinosaur.
