Jeff Fletcher got a reaction from tomsred in Is it time to move Albert Pujols down in the lineup?
Albert Pujols has played 7 games this season.
If he had 3 more hits he'd be hitting .300

Jeff Fletcher got a reaction from Chuck in Congrats to John McDonald - Makes the team!
Green was never a serious candidate for the job McDonald got. He's just not good enough defensively. If Aybar gets hurt and can't play for 3 days do you want Green at SS?
I believe the Angels want Green to keep playing and developing at different positions instead of sitting around doing nothing in the majors.
Since the Angels don't pinch hit much, what you really need are bench guys who can play defense, run or who could start 3-4 days in a row to fill in for an injury.

Jeff Fletcher got a reaction from GregAlso in Angels, Trout discussing six-year, $140M deal
Anyone who thinks Mike Trout is going to just walk away from $150M because he doesn't like the west coast or doesn't think the Angels can win or doesn't like Mike Scioscia or was offended by last years pay are nuts.
    It's 150 million bucks!
He's going to sign. I don't know if he'll give up 3 years of FA or 4, but either way he's going to get another chance at free agency and he can play on the east coast and set a record then.
For now, he's going to just take his 150 million bucks.

Jeff Fletcher got a reaction from Jim in Orange County Register: Trout speaks, won't address contract talks
Players technically aren't paid any salary for spring training. Just a per diem. The players with less than three years service time have their salaries "negotiated" during February. If no agreement is reached the team will automatically assign a salary (ie "renew") the player on Mar 3.
I expect Trout be happily renewed at about $600,000 on Mar. 3. Neither he nor his agent will complain because they'll know a $10m signing bonus will accompany the extension when it's signed in April or May or whenever.

Jeff Fletcher reacted to jshep in So in the wake of the Mulder injury and the oncoming Blanpocalypse, here are the remaining FA starters
So assuming Blanton makes the team as a swingman, Salt Lake's rotation is:
    Shoemaker
    Wade LeBlanc
    Jarrett Grube
    Justin Thomas
And I have absolutely no idea.

Jeff Fletcher got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Angels moving to Tustin?
Considering that Tustin is only 10 miles from Anaheim, making the team not significantly different than now in terms of accessibility, I would think Angels fans would love the idea of a new ballpark (and new revenue).
Angel Stadium is getting kind of dumpy.
Travel around the majors at some of the new parks and you'll like Angel Stadium even less.

"The guy we signed on a minor league deal and had about a 10 percent chance of being our fifth starter for two months, at best, is now out! We'd better spend a lot of money on a major league starter to replace him!"

Folks, I like Mark Mulder as much as anyone -- more, probably. He's a great guy and I wanted to cover him. It's a big deal because it was going to be a really good interesting story.

But as for how much this hurts the Angels, it really makes almost no difference.

Jeff Fletcher got a reaction from Chuck in Dipoto comments on the rotation situation (because this board needs a good 10 page thread)
There is almost no chance of Blanton making the team if he's not in the rotation.
    My odds
10 percent: people get hurt and/or struggle and Blanton is good in spring and he's no 5 starter
40 percent: Blanton is good in spring but doesn't make Angels rotation so he's traded for a bag of balls, Angels picking up all by 1M-ish of salary.
50 percent: Blanton is not good and he's released.

Don't think Mulder or the Angels are interested in him being a reliever.
If he's looks good but he's the no 6 starter he'll probably go to AAA for a few weeks or a month and see what happens.
I actually think he has a chance to make the opening day rotation.
36 is not that old. And if he's healthy, as he says, there's no reason to think he can't pitch.

I wouldn't count in the Angels trading any of the minor league deal types.
First of all, if anyone wanted them they wouldn't have signed minor league deals. Second, part of the agreement teams make when signing these guys is that if they are in the minors and someone else wants them, they release them.
