I think we're getting mixed info here.

I think Arte was confident in keeping Ohtani if the Angels stayed competitive. That's why he went "all in". In hindsight that was retarded but at the time it made sense. Once the Angels completely fell apart I'm sure Arte wasn't as confident. Then he heard about the figures being thrown around and was like yeah no. I don't think he was ever interested in doing the deferred contract.

According to article, Artie wasnt intetested in negotiating in the offseason before his last year.  Did I misread that?

Perhaps you didn’t read all of it, but I did mention a big change in attitudes toward Vegas in gambling on sports now being more mainstream. So, yes, I know it’s different now. I live here, and have for 18 years. I also mentioned their overtures to the Diamondbacks in 2018, but I guess that comparison is laughable as well. I’m laying out context and history around our mayors’ public attempts to bring teams to Vegas over the past 25 years. They’ve never made a secret of those efforts. So, from my perspective, having seen previous efforts, it seems very out of character for our sitting mayor to tell a team, who has actual plans to do so, not to come. Now, if you have something to add beyond chiding people for their opinions, then I’m open to civil discussions. If you’re just here to tell people they’re wrong and that’s it, then you can keep scrolling. There’s no value in that.

For living here 18 years you shouldn't have a problem understanding!

Since the turn of the century (2000)

First mayor Oscar Goodman and then his wife Carolyn Goodman have made it their priorities to revitalize downtown.

I know this for a fact because i was present for press conference announcing proposed plans to build a downtown sports arena where Oscar spoke.

Every attempt by the Goldmans to bring in  sports franchise was to bring it downtown.

If I am not mistaken the Diamobdback overture was to being them to Henderson. And not negotiated  by the Goodmans

The Mayor of Las Vegas has no say....none..whether a sports facility is built outside of Las Vegas city limits and this includes Henderson.

She lobbied the A's hard to get them to use the Cashman Field as the site of their new home.

The A's rejected.  Her, in a pissed off mood,  suggest they are not serious and should stay in Oakland.

She backtracked on that statement almost immediately.  The fact is the franchise owners, the hotel executives, and the Culinary Union all want these facilities on or near the strip.  In fact i wouldnt ve surprised the leagues want them on the strip as well.

Butthurt by being rejected she made the dumbass statement using a narrative by those who do not want the A's to move.

There is no advantage to the city government of Las Vegas. Or the Mayor of the sites or outside the city limits.

Think what you want, but the explanation of her comment is pretty simple to understand.

II don’t think they’ll draw even as many fans as the Knights do. That won’t be a good look for MLB or the A’s. There’s no local excitement for this. The only pushback I’d offer on the hotel/casino patrons is that, from what I’ve seen at Golden Knights, Silver Knights, and 51’s/Aviators games is that most people bring their families, including kids. Those folks are likely not pre- or post-gaming at the casinos. I don’t when I bring my kids to T-Mobile. I don’t see opposing team fans being enough to support an MLB team for 81 home games. As a sports team, is that what you want anyway? The team needs majority local fan support. Fisher won’t get that unless he spends $100-$150M on the roster. Is he going to suddenly start doing that in the 40th-ranked market when he never did in the 10th-ranked one? I don’t think so. If it was an expansion team, maybe, but for this organization? No way.

Kids can eat at the hotels just like adults.  You are correct about gaming.

You may have a point about not bringing in 33k a night 81 games.

I see a lot of opposing fans at GK games and there are 41 of those.

I think there will be excitement for the A's.  Las Vegas is not Oakland.  There is a lot more money than Oakland.  Media market may not be as big but you also have to include an estimate 38 million people who come to Vegas annually.

The good reason to believe Fisher will still be cheap.  However, despite being cheap they have made the playoffs more than many big spending franchises.

IMO they should have stayed with the Wild Wild West location on Tropicana west of I-15. I get the idea about Strip proximity. However, traffic on the Strip is already horrible without 35,000 people trying to get to a single location at the same time right at a major intersection.

My only problem with the Trop and I15 was the parking.  That location would be almost a mile walk from two hotel parking facilitues, and almost 2 miles from four others.

The Strip location outs those parking facilitities within a half mile walk.  And most of that walking would be inside the hotels.  The original location would require almost a mile walk outside where it would be 110 degrees at the start of the game time.

I do not think Traffic will be that big of a problem.  The parking at 5 different hiteks give 5 different exits areas for traffic.  The monorail stos there.  And people will be eating-drinkibg begire abd after games in the casinos.  Thus people will be departing at different times.  Finally they are expecting a large number of opposing fans staying at the hotels.

I Could be wrong on the traffic issues, but i think they have that planned out.

Easy there, big guy. No need to shout or accuse anyone of lying. Nothing I said is untrue or misleading. All anyone asked was what you think of the comments. The Goodmans have been lobbying various teams to come here for over 25 years (evidence of which I referenced). I happen to agree that Fisher’s plan doesn’t make a lot of sense. They’ll be kitty corner to T-Mobile. Can you imagine the congestion if the A’s have a game the same evening as the Knights? Or if there is a huge concert at T-Mobile on the same night? Or the embarrassment if the Knights draw better than the A’s It’d be insane. As for if I live here in Vegas? Don’t do that. I’ve lived and worked in this town for 18 years. You want to have a civil discussion, I’m all for that. You want to shout and accuse me of lying or misleading, then just scroll on by. I’m not here for that.

I never said you didnt live hear.  I just saud if you did live here you would know the context of Carolyn Goodmans quote and you are misleading this board.

Yes the quote can be interpreted to true if you leave the context out.

Many people think its a bad location.  That position has merit.

IMO the best location would have been southside of the strip, sahara and LV bvd.

The strip location nakes too much sense since that is the location to the best resorts and most famous landmarks of the city.

I don't have a problem with Trop and LV bvd.  Its a far better location than originally announced at Trop and Arville.

Parking will not be an issue because there will be 5 resorts hotels within walking distance.  Most of it inside.

You msy have to walk through casino but that is why there is so much support for the location.  You have to walk through casinos.  You will pregame or post game at the casinos.  You will probably drop ten to 20 bucks at the slot machines.

You will have to pay for parking, but you have to do that at any stadium.

As for traffic when TMobile and baseball used at same time.  Again people will not go home amright after the games.  They will eat/drink in the casinos.

I know i dont face any traffice problem parking at the MGM for GK games.  I do avoid Trop.  I go down Spring Mountain to paradise rd.  Park at the MGM, eat at either the MGM or NYNY.  As i leave I go down to TMC ebtrance that gets me back to paradise

Allegiant, T-Mobile, UNLV stadium, LV Motor Speedway, The Airport, and 1/2 of the strip is in Clark County. I think you’re making your own argument up out of thin air lol if she had that concern why didn’t it keep the raiders or The Aces/The Golden Knights from getting brand new stadiums in Clark county?

    IMG_4342.jpeg

I thought you were a Vegas Native?  Am I wrong?

    Let get some thing clear!

Cashman Field is in one of the worst areas of metro area.  The strip is the most famous areas of the metro area!

The franchises did not want to be near down town but they wanted to be near the strip.  I hope that isnt hard to figure out!

Both mayors Goodman (hubby and wife) want to revitalize downtown.  However, the sport franchises are marketing tourist as well as locals. Thus they want to be near the best resorts.  Which is the strip.  Goodmans had no choice in the area.  You comment like they had a say where venues go!

    1. TMobil was open by private money.  The money came from MGM and Casino magnet Adelson.  Those chose TMobile bevause it was the best location to market the team.

    2. Allegiant location was also chosen to be near the strip.  Both Golden Knights and Raiders get corporate marketing $$$ because the MGM resorts surround both locations.

    3. Of Course the T&M Center  would be on the UNLV campus.  Should they have put it downtown instead on the college Campus?

    4. Not sure what you are trying to say about the airport.  Or the Speedway which is so big in real rstate that it had to be on the outskirts of town.

    5.  The Mayor of Las Vegas has no say to cobstruction in Clark County.  The county Commission does.  And the state legislature

From an economic standpoint Cashman field makes sense.  It would be cheaper to build and for A's.  It has the  infrastructure.  However, location is not ideal.

The best economic decision would have been having the stadium built in Summerland.  Houghes corporation has offered the land rent free.  That would make more economic sense.

However the best decision for marketing standpoint is the strip.  The franchise owners know that.  That is why they insisted a location near the strip.

These arguments have been well publicized in the Las Vegas Review Journal so I am not maling it up in thin air as you say it.

"I thought, this does not make sense, and so why is it happening?" Goodman said. "And then I thought, well, because they really want to stay in Oakland, they want to be on the water, they have that magnificent dream. Yet they can't get it done."

When the podcast hosts asked Goodman if it would be a "good thing" if the A's do complete their relocation to Las Vegas, she responded by saying: "I personally think they've gotta figure out a way to stay in Oakland and make their dream come true."

I mean, not sure how you can read those quotes and come to a different conclusion. But whatever lol

Maybe because the wuote infers things that doesnt necessarily exists.

Goodman wanted the syadoum site in downtown Las Vegas Cashman field.  That site is in the city of Las Vegas.  The Tropicana site is in Clark County.  The city would not make any tax revenue.  She was butthurt that the A's didnt want the Cashman site.   And don't blame them.

  8. 18 hours ago, Jeremiah said:

She did say they’d be better off staying in Oakland. She was pretty clear about that. Under competent and interested ownership, she’s 100% correct. That’s the caveat. What did you infer from those comments?

She said "they arent serious" so they should consider staying in Oakland.

BECAUSE THE A'S DIDN'T WANT TO PLAY AT CASHMAN FIELD WHICH IS IN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS.

The Tropicana site is in Spring Valley township of Clark County.  Thus the City doesnt collect tax revenue.  Clark County does.

Context is very important.  And if you live in Las Vegas you would know the difference and is willingly misleading the board of context.

Or you dont live in Las Vegas and just doesn't know the difference.

It’s an opinion, and reasonable people can disagree. I’m not here to make fun or insult anyone. I’m just laying out reasons why Aces wouldn’t be a good name if the A’s had to change it. As to the relative merits of the NBA v WNBA, the NBA no longer has fundamentals or defense. Double dribbling go uncalled, and it’s just an individual shooting contest now. I’ve been a Lakers fan since the Showtime days, and it’s not nearly as interesting now as it used to be as a game. Anyway, I’ll leave it at that since this is more about how the A’s released their renderings. I’ve laid out why I think that would likely not work either in other posts.

Nothing wrong with Las Vegas Athletics.   Not sure why it should be changed

There's been tons of douches that have been on the Angels over the years. Some that we all know of, some that we don't.

I'm a fan of a baseball team. This baseball team. I'm not here to check the players morals at the door before I root for my team to succeed, because I myself is nowhere near perfect and have made mistakes, like you all have. Who tf am I to decide who is good enough morally to play for my team?

    I mean c'mon.

Hell didnt our mamger we just hired have a crack problem?
