Could Albert Pujols' final season come next year?
TroutAdell replied to Chuck's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
I am sure tha Angels would be more than willing to negotiate a settlement on the remainder of his contract. The problem is that Albert doesn’t understand that he is done. Until that time he will be back. -
There's still over a month left in the regular season

7 against Houston and 6 against Oakland. That is probably 8-10 losses there. -
Will the pitching health EVER stabilize???
TroutAdell replied to Angel Oracle's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
The staff needs to be built from the back end to the starters. They need to add two pitchers in the pen to go along with Anderson. Alvarez is fine and the rest of the pen should be decided in the spring. Heaney, Skaggs, Pena, and Barria are the starters returning next season. They need to add a top of the rotation type. Remember in the spring there were 8-10 starters in camp. The Angels need to build the depth back up because no team stays healthy all season. I left out Ohtani as a starter because who knows if he will be healthy. -
Since Trout is still on the DL there is no reason for him to be put on the bereavement list. I would think he will be back a couple days after the funeral.

Ward will be up in September and should see plenty of playing time. For now, Fernandez should get the bulk of playing time at third. Cowart has had plenty of time to show what he has and he just doesn’t hit enough to stay. Next season Cozart will plug into either second, third or utility infielder. Fletcher will at least be an utility man. There is no room for Cowart.

The Angels will let Scioscia decide how to announce his future, they owe him that much.

How is this team going to be better in 2019?
TroutAdell replied to Dtwncbad's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
There will be a lot of competition to sign Machado. It will take an enormous amount of money to get into the bidding. I doubt that Arte will go there with the spectre of Trout’s extension needs. I think Machado, at age 26 would be a great addition and give Trout the protection in the lineup that he needs. I just don’t see Arte doing it unless Pujols retires and negotiates a buyout. -
The next two years are vital for Eppler’s tenure. No way he goes into that time with Scioscia as his manager. Eppler needs to take total control of the team and hire a guy who shares his vision. I just hope his vision doesn’t involve signing old guys who have already peaked.

Ohtani's Potential as Hitter vs. Pitcher
TroutAdell replied to Angelsjunky's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
I agree he should still do both. I also think he can accomplish more as an everyday player ( full time 1B). I also think he can have a better career as a closer. He would only have to throw 50-70 times in a season. At the same time he could be in the lineup at 1B at least 5 days a week. To me this would maximize his talents. I think he can be a perennial All Star in those roles. -
Just remember that when Ohtani starts at DH Albert starts at first base. Albert can’t play in the field everyday.

I totally disagree that Trout is facing tougher pitching. When Willie was at his best in the forties and fifties there were only 8 teams in each league. The pitching was outstanding then and into the seventies. Expansion diluted pitching and the rise of the NFL and basketball further diminished the talent level. This is not to denigrate anything that Trout has accomplished because he would have been just as good had he played back then.

What does Valbuena have on Scioscia to still have a roster spot. He serves no purpose. Cowart should play third until the Amgels decide to bring up Ward. I would love to see Valbuena’s pictures of Sosh eating his Ziti in the nude.

As long as the Astros can overcome the bad PR then it is a good pickup. I am not sure I would want that baggage on my team.

Cowart has zero value on the trade market. If I were the Angels I would try him back on the mound.

Would you trade Jo Adell for Noah Syndergaard?
TroutAdell replied to Chuck's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Even if the Angels wentvall in on a guy like Thor or DeGrom the Angels could not match packages like The Padres, Dodgers, Braves, Phillies and Yankees put together. The Angels are too many players away to give up 3-5 top prospects for a starting pitcher. -
I Feel Like Next Year Will Be Better
TroutAdell replied to Griffey's Corner's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
To start 2019 no six man rotation. Ohtani should be the closer and DH at least 5 games a week. The biggest impediment to winning is Pujols. Arte needs to step forward snd tell him to retire and move to the front office. First base needs to be an offensive position not a retirement home. 4 more years of Upton will be devastating unless he reverts back to his 2017 level. Wining requires several players having above average years. Who knows if that is possible with this group. -
I agree about Ward but everyone seems to forget that Scioscia will end up platooning Ward and whomever is the left handed bat on the bench. Same with Thaiss and anyone thecall up. I look forward to the day that Scioscia is gone. He over manages, constantly changing the lineup. This team is not the National league, put the best 9 players in the lineup and stop messing with it.

Do you think Eppler makes a run at Harper this offseason?
TroutAdell replied to Chuck's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
If Ohtani can’t pitch next season ( probable) then he becomes the regular DH. It won’t be necessary to only have him hit 3-4 times a week. That makes it less necessary to add a big left handed bat. Harper will be way too expensive and I doubt he would want share the limelight with Trout and Ohtani. I hope Eppler can spend the money on a true leadoff hitter and some decent pitching. -
I am begging. Please get rid of Valbuena. Please.
TroutAdell replied to Dtwncbad's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
I think we can all agree that Valbuena needs to go, hopefully sooner rather than later. The fact he is hitting 5th is on Scioscia and his worthless platoon system. He is platooning Fletcher with Valbuena which is absurd. If they promoted Ward or Thaiss it would be the same thing. I just hope Scioscia isn’t extended because that would be enough to make me give up on this organization. -
Sorry but I have no interest in signing a pitcher who has never pitched a whole season. Hoping that Richards is ready in 2020 and can actually make it through a third of the season without another injury is wishful thinking. Use the money to bolster the pen.
