  1. Can't blame him. The team isn't making the playoffs and he's heading to free agency. Why risk blowing out a knee, elbow, or ankle?
  2. The Sox were also in a much better position to win in the short term than we are now. I don't have the confidence that Dombrowski can build us a winner with the resources he'll be given.
  3. I think that's really pretty normal. There are definitely the Mike Trouts and Jo Adells who make the majors much faster, but a ton of solid regulars don't hit the bigs until age 24-25. It's those depth guys who we are missing now. This system was so devoid of nearly anything useable for a long time and didn't even have the infrastructure to get whatever talent their was developed. I'm not going to argue that Eppler has done a perfect job, but the system was a much bigger disaster than nearly everyone (even on a die hard Angel's board) realized.
  4. This is where a lack of farm and inability to sign free agents has hurt us. There is no depth. If a pitcher is sporting an 8.00 ERA for an extended period of time he gets replaced on a normal team because there are other, possibly better options. If there aren't better options you have to keep playing those guys.
  5. Schindler's List 2: Checking it twice or 2 Schindler 2 Fuhrerous?
  6. I voted no, but after thinking about it I want to change my vote. The poll doesn't specify making the playoffs this year, and I do think that eventually they will make the playoffs again.
  7. Is this true? And even if true, you are not counting the games where we have a lead after 6 and don't blow a save. We didn't have 11 save opportunities, we've probably had many more than that.
  8. Absolutely, but by the same token, you have to "overpay" guys in order to get anyone. Everyone has misses. I'm not going to argue that Eppler has done a great job. You can't do a great job when the team is the worst in baseball and has the best player on the team, but I think people are going to be really disappointed when we get a new GM and he's not perfect. I think Eppler is probably an above average GM, but there is definitely room for improvement. It reminds me a lot of the fire Scioscia crowd. We see all the mistakes he makes and think he's the only manager out there who makes them. I think GMs have far more impact than managers do, but I think people are vastly overestimating how much better a new GM could be underestimating how much worse a worse GM could be.
  9. Can someone explain the difference between what Kole did and what A-Rod did when he slapped the ball away in the playoffs? It seems to me that the reactions to the two events are totally different and yet both broke the rules to try to avoid getting called out (both unsuccessfully). Is it simply that Calhoun was willing to take a slight risk of suffering a concussion while A-Rod merely slapped at the ball?
  10. A rug really ties the room together.
  11. I think he plays to deep and lets a lot of balls that look like tough plays off the bat drop in for hits. He does make cool plays robbing HRs, though Still the best player in baseball, just a different player than he was 8 years ago.
  12. I grew my first Habanero plant this year. I picked my first one yesterday.
  13. https://www.hotsauce.com/ass-in-the-tub-hot-sauce/#tab-description My favorite is called Ass in the Tub. It's a cayenne pepper sauce, like Tobasco, but a little hotter and there's no vinegar.
  14. https://www.nrn.com/quick-service/taco-bell-eliminating-12-items-its-menu Here are the items being eliminated from the menu.
  15. Very good guy and the beer at FCP Woodbury is great. I used to live down the street. I didn't love the pizza, but it got better over the years. He would post pictures of himself learning new techniques at pizza conventions a lot. Definitely worked at his craft.
  16. Rendon's start has not been that bad. His OPS+ is 131. It's not great but the 3 previous years it's been 139, 137, 155. People still rely too heavily on AVG. and not enough on OBP.
  17. I resisted cauliflower crust for a long time. I tried it at Pieology, eventually. It's actually really good. It's nice and crunchy and there's a lot of Parmesan in there. A Neapolitan style pizza is still my favorite, but sometimes I like to get something different like that.
  18. I was going to say Angelina's as my top choice before reading the lists. Number 1 on one of the lists I really like Two Saucy Broads in Fullerton, too. Number 7 on the second list. It's Chicago style pizza (not deepdish).
  19. I'd like to go on record as supporting trades that lead us to the playoffs and against trades that don't lead us to the playoffs, as well. I'm not sure why more GMs just use this decision tree as their guide when they make trades.
  20. If only we could get them to shorten the games to 7 innings due to Covid...
  21. The dude has a 105 OPS+ and a .395 OBP along with good defense. He's on pace for over a 3.5 WAR season over 160 games. It's not what you hope for, but it's hardly a disaster over the course of 2 weeks.
  22. I voted for Stassi. Will it last, doubtful, but it's a great story right now. I know he's not living up to the contract, but he has a .395 OBP and a 105 OPS+. If this is him playing like crap, wait until he gets hot. He's played good defense at 3rd, too. The difference between a good player and great player is that a great player can contribute even when the balls aren't falling in for hits. Rendon has certainly done that. The money matters, but if we signed Rendon to be a defensive specialist 3B and leadoff hitter and he put up his current stats for $15 million a year, we'd all be pretty thrilled.
  23. Is that better or worse than an ERA of infinity?
  24. It's weird that every other developed country was able to deal with this far more successfully than America. Guess you're right and it's just not possible to contain it.
