  1. yeah, up until like a week ago I assumed Sunday's Cubs/Angels game was a real game. Incredibly lame that it's exhibition.
  2. Sunday is strange - 3 real games, and then Cubs v Angels is the only exhibition game, and will actually start after real games have already been played that day.
  3. One glimmer of hope, if you're into that sort of thing - the offensive numbers in Arizona this spring have been way up. Lots of top pitchers with ugly ERAs out there. I still believe Weaver is toast, but results in AZ, particularly this spring for whatever reason, should be taken with a (tiny) grain of salt.
  4. At this point it's just a matter of how many games he costs us before he's pulled from the rotation. Angels really need CJ to pull his head out and/or one of Shoemaker/Skaggs/Tropeano to step up and have a great season.
  5. Eppler just saw Shoemaker's line from today.
  6. It's not a coincidence that the last time the Angels won a playoff game was in 2009 when Figgins and Abreu both got on base 40% of the time. That's not going to happen this year, but if Escobar and Nava/Calhoun can all be around .350-/360+ I think it will make a huge difference.
  7. I think it's pretty simple - he's not walking as much because pitchers are attacking him more.
  8. What a fall from grace. That guy was a top prospect. Consistent underperformance and weight issues. Supposedly an asshole to boot.
  9. I think the Angels have played the "he's only x years removed from . . " game enough the past few seasons to know it's a fool's errand.
  10. that was definitely huge. 2009-2010 are the two seasons where major things happened that affected the future. I also don't think you can overstate how much Morales breaking his ankle on home plate screwed up this team. We've basically been applying expensive band-aids ever since.
  11. Yeah I'm sure I'm mixing up my timelines. I do remember being super hyped about Todd Green though.
  12. I remember fantasizing about our homegrown infield of Kotchman, Kendrick, Wood, McPherson, and Todd Green at C. Whoops.
  13. blister maybe? but honestly that kind of thing is the least of his problems.
  14. another game with multiple home runs given up . . . I truly think we've seen the last of Weaver as a viable SP in this league. He'll either be coming out of the pen, come down with a mysterious injury, or he'll be guaranteeing the Angels a loss every 5 games until Scioscia finally throws up the white flag.
  15. yeah he's not pitching for the Angels again.
  16. Good for Nava for having a great spring so far, and I hope he has a good season. But the idea of "quieting doubters" in spring training games is silly.
  17. Since he's on our coaching staff this year, I'd say that's a safe assumption
  18. I gotta side with the White Sox on this one - seems incredibly inappropriate on Laroche's part.
  19. this is pretty major IMO. I thought CJ bouncing back and pitching well - either for the Halos all year, or making himself trade bait for a bat at the deadline - was one of the keys to the season. He still could, but it's not off to a good start.
  20. rotation to start the season will be Richards/Heaney/Santiago/Shoemaker/Weaver, with Weaver basically hanging on by a thread. Until Wilson and Skaggs are ready, Tropeano is first up for an open spot.
  21. Hate judging anyone on ST results, especially a veteran, but it's not looking good for Weav. Doesn't look like we'll be able to count on him for much this year.
  22. this same question is asked every ST. Pay no attention to the MLB Gameday pitch counts during spring. They don't really update it and it's basically only one pitch per AB.
  23. i would say around 20 of the 30 teams have championship aspirations this year, including the Angels. It's baseball, it's not just the sum of the parts.
