Guerra's peripherals were awful and I had little faith he would repeat his success or even come close to it. Nevertheless, this is bizarre.
 

I do agree the pitching part was probably a fluke. Regression there is probably going to eat into a big chunk of our improvement in pitching depth.

i'd think any of the underestimations would fall to the wayside of any reasonable person once they saw the surgical scar running up along his head. if that's not a huge helping of reality, then nothing will be.

I really enjoy Pedro Moura's work. That was a good piece.
I think some here are underestimating how difficult returning from serious brain surgery would be, as well as the potential for it to not be a smooth ride along the way. Hopefully he'll come back and pick up where he left off because that would be pretty damn remarkable.

Last year, forbes had their valuation at about 700mil.  So it's going for more than 2x the forbes eval.  
Per forbes, the halos are at 1.34 B so conceivably they could be worth almost 3B.

Seriously, how do you not look at Houston's lineup, rotation and bullpen and reach the conclusion that they are a hell of a lot better than us? They were 10 games better than the Angels last year in the raw standings and 98 runs (or 11 wins) better than us by base runs. They have plenty of scope to be much better than they were last year, too. They should be one of the best teams in baseball. The Angels, well, not so much.

If Ackley makes our roster it means a number of things. 
1. A major player got hurt.
2. A backup got hurt.
3. We have absolutely no one else to give ab's to or even trade for.
4. Gives us something to complain about similar to John McDonald and Featherweight.

I want robot umps but there is real merit in changing the zone. We need more balls in play to generate interest in the sport. We're also in serious danger of seeing offense just collapsing. The only thing stopping the run environment falling to a 1960s-style level is the home run spike that began in mid 2015. Since nobody has been able to determine why everyone started hitting more homers, there is every chance that whatever causing it could disappear as quickly as it arrived.

WAR wasn't really a thing then, at least outside the small SABR circle, but Glaus was fourth in the league in WAR that year. He was behind only A-Rod, Pedro and Erstad. He clearly should have got more MVP love, yeah. And Pedro really should have won it, he had one of the best seasons in history.
