  1. Beginning to rain here tonight, maybe some of the stuff you guys got earlier. Of course, I took the car to the car wash this afternoon, so it was inevitable.
  2. I give her an A for judgment. Anybody who tips someone for taking their order is and idoit anyway.
  3. We get screwed probably more than any fans in the country when it comes to MLBEI blackouts. We're 250 miles from the nearest MLB park, and six teams say we're a home market. Seriously? I really hope that this comes to fruition.
  4. I use a Target Red Card, don't know if these are subject to the same issues as regular debit cards. Looked at the bank account, don't see any Target charges I don't recognize. This card number can't be used anywhere else.
  5. We didn't get married there, but we stayed at a great all-inclusive resort in Tulum south of Cancun, Dreams Tulum. Beachfront hotel, they do weddings, can even get a massage on the beach. A lot to see and do around there, nice beach, relatively quiet without the Spring Break atmosphere of Cancun. Five restaurants with different cuisines, nice comfortable rooms, two great pools within a stone's throw of the ocean, Mayan ruins nearby to explore, iguanas all over the place. You can do something really nice that you will both always remember, and not dig a financial hole in the process.
  6. IMO it all leads back to an owner who believes that he is so football savvy that he can be his own GM. Most rich guys have egos, but the guys with the better teams get out of the way and let their football guys run the operation. Probably the biggest laugh I have gotten at JJ's expense was when he fired Chan Gailey after two seasons and said something to the effect that he hires coaches to win Super Bowls. Those teams didn't have the talent, and Gailey still won the NFC East in his first year and made the playoffs the second year.
  7. We have an office pool for both Mega Millions and Powerball. We would be splitting the pot about 10-12 ways. Might buy some new seat covers for my '96 Grand Marquis.
  8. And tell them that Willits is a potential 30 HR guy if he just gets away from the marine layer.
  9. I am a Trumbo fan too. That said, what this team needed most was starting pitching. Dipoto acquired two starters in return, one of whom we were rejected from acquiring in a straight up trade for Howie Kendrick. We kept Kendrick, IMO a valuable piece of this team, and still bolstered the pitching staff. I hope that Trumbo has a solid career. However, you have to give up something of value to get something you need. Trumbo hit a bunch of home runs last year and we finished well below .500 and 18 games off the division lead. I am willing to sacrifice the moon shots if it means more Ws and more runs kept off the board for the opposition.
  10. Regardless of how he looks to scouts, a big money long term deal to a guy who has never faced a major league hitter is a significant roll of the dice. For every Yu Darvish there is a Daisuke Matsuzaka.
  11. That would leave enough money for those Yankees season tickets you want.
  12. He's a Yankee plant, throwing that out and scouring the Angels' message board for reaction.
  13. We've got a spot about five miles from the house just waiting for a new ballpark. Now that the NFR is bolting town, a lot of discretionary cash has been freed up.
  14. That is completely at odds with what ESPN has posted.
  15. Roughly, yes. So much for the naysayers.
  16. One of my horses on the better of my two teams. I have also ridden Peyton Manning all season - which means that the Broncos will rest him for the playoffs about the time I hit the championship game if I win my first game (had a playoff bye this week). I have also had decent years out of DeMarco Murray and Jason Witten - not so much my other Cowboy, Miles Austin. My other team was an autodraft team, so I had no choice in my initial roster. Going in, it looked pretty good. I had Adrian Peterson and my QBs were Matt Ryan and Eli Manning. Of course, both the Giants and the Falcons went in the tank from the beginning, and in a ten-team league there is little but backups and guys on IR left for pickup. Peterson has been in and out of games with injuries, and it seems that he gets injured early in games when it happens. It was a doomed season from day one. I should have known how the season was going to go when I tied my first game - which I have never had happen before. That tie is knocking me out of a lower playoff spot. It is the difference between being in fourth place and being in sixth.
  17. We don't match up with the Yankees trade-wise. What they have, we already have an adequate supply of - players on the wrong side of 30 with bloated contracts.
  18. And we got four inches in about 30 minutes, which is normally a year's worth of rain for us.
  19. Unbelievable. It doesn't involve a toddler, but a former subordinate has an entry that I believe at least deserves honorable mention. I had a nurse working for me who was very good at what she did. Her husband was a truck driver who was on the road a lot. Things deteriorated in her relationship, and she returned to Oklahoma (where she moved to Las Vegas from) to try to repair her marriage. I began seeing things on her Facebook page that concerned me. Every entry was about partying, staying out until all hours, etc. - something that a licensed professional her age doesn't normally engage in. She eventually divorced her husband, and she contacted me about reinstatement to her former job. She was a good employee, and I had no reservations about helping her return and hopefully get her life back on track. I had no open positions at my facility, but I assisted her in getting on at a place that had a vacancy. This is when the fun began. Unbeknown to any of us, she had hooked up with her ex-husband's best friend, who was her new "soul mate". I have never met either her husband or the new boyfriend, but chances are that if they are best friends they are a great deal alike - meaning that the outcome is likely to be similar. About six months later she was arrested, along with her boyfriend, for running a marijuana grow house. The police found over 30 plants in the house, plus 60 grams of marijuana already bundled for sale, along with about $100K in cash. This is bad enough were it the end of the story, but there is much more. The boyfriend, among other things, was changed with illegal possession of a firearm - meaning that he is a convicted felon. She worked for the Nevada Department of Corrections with a part-time job at the Clark County Detention Center - where she was taken after her arrest. Her 15-year-old daughter lived in the house, and they provided her with marijuana. She shared a bedroom with the boyfriend's 20-year-old son - but I'm sure that nothing was going on. I was especially concerned because if she received a prison sentence my facility - where she once worked in the infirmary - is the only place in Nevada that she could have been sent. I made several contacts asking that the powers-that-be begin looking at a Corrections Compact transfer to send her to another state should this happen. Apparently the charges against her were dropped in exchange for her rolling on the boyfriend, as she returned to Oklahoma and she is apparently still neck-deep in partying. I don't know what happened with her daughter.
