  1. You aren't supposed to talk about sequels until they are announced. Now the cat is out of the bag.
  2. I believe that they could reverse that trend if they started selling Baja Blast in stores. I'm convinced that it contains cocaine or something. That stuff is addictive - and I'm not a huge fan of soft drinks. Not sure when their exclusive agreement with Taco Bell expires.
  3. It has been so many years since I've seen Rocky that the quote slipped my mind.
  4. Our zoo (such as it was) has been closed and all the animals dispersed to other zoos.
  5. I don't see Wells even getting an invitation to spring training. Given his production last year in the one thing he is supposedly good at - hitting home runs - he averaged one every 40+ plate appearances a year ago. Pretty much every organization in baseball has at least one guy in the minors who can match or beat that production, and odds are he isn't 35 years old. Are you going to bring up a guy who might develop into a solid major league hitter, or bring in a guy whose career is already pretty much done to do the same job? There is an adage in baseball: Don't lose with old players.
  6. I believe that he cares a great deal, and that he works very hard. The skills just aren't there anymore. For all the grumbling about his production while he was here (deserved, IMO), I never heard a hint about him not working to fix things, being a bad teammate or demanding playing time when he wasn't producing.
  7. Just look at the voting for the All Star Game. That isn't a process I want for deciding who is enshrined at Cooperstown. Every Yankee of any significance would make the HOF.
  8. If you are into Mediterranean food and have transportation, nowhere in town better than Paymons. Two locations, one at Flamingo and Maryland Parkway, the other on West Sahara. The one on Sahara also has a hookah lounge, not sure about the Flamingo location. The Sahara location is the nicer of the two, but also the farthest from the Strip. Their falafel is the best I've ever had, incredible hummus, their Athens seasoned fries are practically a food group by themselves. My favorite thus far is the chicken curry, diced white meat chicken with a curry sauce served over a bed of rice.
  9. Apart from the bogus weapons of mass destruction argument used to justify the Iraq invasion, perhaps the biggest miscalculation made by US leaders was the uninformed assumption that an Islamic country would openly embrace American-style democracy.
  10. When I saw this I was thinking about a different place. The Big Texan Steakhouse in Amarillo, TX has had a challenge for a 72-ounce steak for years. They have photos on the wall of people who have completed the feat. Never felt inclined to try.
  11. Best steak place in town, IMO, is Del Frisco's Double Eagle, off Strip on Paradise Road.
  12. Yeah, but think of all the great torn ACL stories.
  13. If his consult with Saban going into the Sugar Bowl is an indication of things to come, Bama fans may join their counterparts from Tennessee and Kiffin won't be allowed east of the Mississippi.
  14. He had 11 home runs in 458 PAs for the Yankees last year - not exactly Ruthian production. One HR every 40 PAs wouldn't be too enticing to me if I were a GM, especially in a 35-year-old outfielder who is likely to get worse.
  15. Good question. I wonder who is going to pay for the police detail when they go to Tennessee. Lane Kiffin is persona non grata at UT - not only for bailing on them after only one year, but also for fantasizing about coaching at USC the whole time and acting as if their traditions and history didn't matter. He had all of the photos of UT's great players in the athletic offices taken down and replaced with USC photos. I have never heard of this happening anywhere else, ever.
  16. Glavine undoubtedly got some bounce from pitching during the period when the Braves won 14 consecutive division titles and had one of the best starting staffs ever assembled. I believe that John Smoltz will get the same benefit next year - plus some of his most clutch performances came in October.
  17. The coldest air temperature I have ever experienced is -7 with a wind chill of -35. That was plenty for me. One of many reasons I now live in the desert.
  18. Interesting that they attribute the "growth" to radiation. From everything I have read radiation slows tissue growth and kills tissue as well. If it didn't, radiation therapy would accelerate the growth of cancer cells, which it clearly doesn't.
  19. Extra points for beating the opening of spring training by six weeks.
  20. No, but enough will be to greatly reduce the odds that he comes here, IMO. I see him ending up with the Yankees, to be honest, because I believe that they are in panic mode after missing the playoffs last year. The Dodgers are loaded with cash, but they have enough pitching already that they probably won't be a major player IMO. They also have to think about extending Kershaw, who is a proven commodity while Tanaka is not. I like your thinking, Dawg. One thing about spending the money on two or three lesser pitchers is that you spread out the risk. If we signed Tanaka at, say, 5/$120M (plus the $20M posting fee) and he sucks right out of the gate, we have gone all in on one pitcher and he isn't going to help us, plus we're stuck with the remainder of yet another untradeable contract. If any club in the majors knows about bombing on big money free agents, it's the Angels.
  21. This result was skewed by their sweep of six games against the Tigers. Apart from Detroit, the Angels were 14-18 against these clubs.
