There may be some NHL caliber players in Henderson but nothing more than lineup fillers. They’ll replace Stephenson and Martinez going forward with Hertl and Hanifan but their fate really relies more on Stone’s health and Hill not turning back into a pumpkin. And they better be real sure Hertl’s knee is fit

    That all sounds very accurate.

I don't know.  San Jose traded their draft capital for the playoffs.  What's funny is, people want to bail them out, now that they suck.  I say F them.

We have a pretty good idea of what we still have in the minors, because almost all of them have been called up at one time or another. Injuries have been a huge deal this season. At one point we had eight starters out, most for a significant period of time.

The Knights made another huge trade of draft capital and prospects today. When those bills eventually come due, they’re going to come due badly.

I wouldn't count on it. This is a place where free agents want to play. The team also stockpiled draft picks, so players from the minors being dealt hasn't been that big of a deal.

And then when you go back to change your password, several other fields have been erased.

Another favorite is when they give you a link to recover your password, and they force you to reset it instead. You reset it, and the system says "Your password cannot be the same as any of your past five passwords." Of course, if you knew what it was, you wouldn't have followed the link in the first place.

I think an expansion team would be a better success here. It would be embraced more fully by the community as a whole. I just look at the Golden Knights vs the Raiders. Bill Foley privately financed T-Mobile Arena, and was very proactive in communicating with the community about what the team would be. It was, and continues to be, the area’s favorite team by far. The Raiders were funded by legislative action. They knew we wouldn’t approve it by vote. They have no history here, and they don’t sell out. They rank 31st out of 32 teams in attendance numbers. An expansion team would work better. Plus, I’m not sure a baseball team can sellout 81 home dates. The A’s would need to do that in order to pay off the bonds.

To be fair, the Raiders' attendance ranking includes road games. Their home game average attendance is right at capacity.

You have the wrong Roanoke. That is the costal colony that disappeared without a trace in the late 1500's. This house is next to the Blue Ridge mountains in the Western section of Virginia.

I spent about a week in that area in 2016 with my stepdaughter when she made a campus visit to Virginia Tech for entry into veterinary school. Very scenic area, liked it a lot.

One thing getting consideration in our household is a possible move to Newfoundland, my mother's former home. I have written confirmation of Canadian citizenship from Immigration Canada, so getting in wouldn't be a major ordeal. Already found a home, about 2,400 square feet, former RCMP office, in a coastal town west of St. John's. After sale of my home here, I could pay cash for it if I wanted and have plenty left over. The Atlantic Ocean is literally across the street.

i like what the nhl has done with a 3 on 3 setup. lots of skating and letting the best players do their thing with room to operate.

I went to the NHL All Star Game when it was played here. I agree with your comments. The three-on-three setup is used in overtime games, so it doesn't feel like a gimmick (shootouts, anyone?). It also allows for more scoring with more open ice.

The same article goes on to say the city will still ask for those very things: In addition, the city is asking for a commitment from Major League Baseball on one of three options: (1) a one-year exclusive right to solicit ownership of a future expansion team; (2) vote to leave the A's colors and name in Oakland, or; (3) facilitate the sale of the A's to a local ownership group.”

So it has gone from a demand to an ask. Big difference. Plus MLB can choose one of the three, and not all. The only one that they have any shot of getting is #2. Given their lack of action for decades on the stadium situation and their poor attendance even when the team was winning, MLB isn't giving them preference in expansion. The owners have already voted unanimously to allow the team to leave - after Oakland again failed to act in a timely manner on Howard Terminal - so the local ownership boat has sailed as well.

The city is proposing the five-year lease with the opt-out after three to safeguard itself in case there are construction delays in Las Vegas or the deal falls through. According to the offer sheet obtained by ESPN and KGO-TV, the city has dropped previous requirements that called for MLB to keep the A's name and colors in Oakland, as well as a demand that MLB guarantee the city a future expansion team.

  10. The latest is that the City of Oakland has approached the team with a five-year extension, with an opt out after the third year. The five year provision gives stability in case there are delays in the completion of the stadium on the Strip, or in the event that A's ownership manages to totally botch the entire relocation. Oakland has dropped their original demand that the owners leave the Athletics name and colors behind, and that MLB guarantee Oakland an expansion team (which wasn't going to happen).

The Tropicana Hotel closes for the final time at noon Tuesday. After that, demolition can begin.

  11. "Can we just have fun?" In a word, no. If you want rah-rah, no negativity, then feel free to start your own forum and see if anybody stays on it. Reminds me of the official college football fan sites that kick anyone off who dares to say anything negative. You are free to talk about the team, as long as you are totally optimistic. Screw that. Part of being on a team message board means discussing various aspects of the team - not just the ones that we like. Unfounded optimism isn't true discussion, and it isn't what I come here for.
