Splint7438 got a reaction from Vegas Halo Fan in Angels made offer to Garza
Forget some of the bad decisions for a minute and see what was accomplished by this. The Angels showed strength by sticking to their offer. Refused to get in a bidding war after making a fair offer. The same approach was used with Grienke and texeria. Both were made fair and competitive offers. When these others turned down the offers the Angels comment if any was just that they made a fair offer. No bullshit slamming of the players because they signed for more elsewhere. This was as much for the agents of the players as it was future negotiations for future FAs. Any player considering the Angels will know where they stand from the beginning. I don't really recall any players bad mouthing how the front office does business since Arte took over. Ok I seem to remember Torii talking a little smack after we signed Josh. But at that time I thought Josh at 25mil was better deal than Hunter at the 20 or so he wanted.
The Angels will not be a pawn in order to drive up a players price. I think this is as much Arte as anyone. I remember back when Boras tried to hold the Angels to the fire after they drafted Weaver. As I recall he wanted to sign here and did so a days or so before he would have gone back into the draft. In fact weaver was only available to the Angels because most teams didn't think they could sign him with Boras as his agent. Then again I could be imagining this whole scenario.

Splint7438 got a reaction from Vegas Halo Fan in When bad things happen to good people
Wow somehow I lost an entire (long winded) paragraph that I wrote before I hit post. I will see if I can hit some of the high points. Skins, there is no wrong way to grieve. I would strongly suggest that you don't shut yourself off from the rest of your loved ones. My wife and i had some rough times while going through the grieving process. A loss like that can devastate a marriage. We got through it and are now more in love than ever. I am lucky enough to have a brother that never gave up on me when my wife and I were greiving over Alan. I know he didn't always understand it but he was always there for me. It is much easier to keep living when you have support from your loved ones. You need to embrace who and what your son is. Alan was 21 when he passed so about the only things we could agree on consistently was Angels baseball and John Wayne. I know it sounds hokie but time is a great healer. The pain does not go away we just deal with pain better.
Sorry the original paragraph was simply brilliant so sorry you missed out on it. Lol.

Splint7438 got a reaction from maximus p in Mark Cuban on Selig
It would be so nice to see someone other than Boston, Yankees, mets or phillies on the game of the week. We should be able to watch every team at least three times over the course of a season. The NFL has a rule that each team has to have a national telecast at least once every three years. I think this is great policy. I think the Dodgers will be part of this eastern block rotation of teams. Especially if they are playing good baseball. We need to see more of the pirates, Indians, brewers, reds, giants, As. The only time we get to see these teams is usually when they are playing the Dodgers or Angels.

Maybe it's because I care most about baseball, but I think Selig is the worst of the sitting commissioners. They all have credibility problems. Stern has made the players bigger than the game. Goodell shoves certain teams up our asses every week and there is no good reason to not have a team in LA. Selig is now trying to take credit for cleaning up steroids in MLB after turning his head for years.

No positive test, first offense. Where is the union on this. If he wasn't so unPopular this never happens.

Splint7438 got a reaction from Jim in Rosenthal on Angels, Qualifying Offers, Drew, Jays, Putz
I think this shows how stupid the luxury tax really is. T doesn't allow teams to be loyal to players and stay competitive over the long haul. Teams have to choose between the two. The escalating penalties are punative and are aimed at selected teams. Salary numbers are not indexed for the cost of living in relation to where the player makes his money. For instance a player working and living in NYC making a million dollars a year is making considerably less than the same salary if he were playing in Texas. I am all for eliminating cap all together and would lean more to a minimum salary and non guaranteed contracts.

Splint7438 got a reaction from Tank in Salmon vs. Trout
Apparently some of you guys never saw Tim play. Productive bat. Class on the field. Tim is probably the greatest Angel ever. The OP I believe asked how soon Trout is considered the greatest Angel. It takes more than two years. He is absolutely a better player than Tim. But if you are looking for just numbers we could have a lot more long time angels in this discussion. Jered. Finley. Percy. Ralston. But to me he is the. Greatest Angel because he was a class act with a solid bat and he brought us our ring.

Splint7438 got a reaction from Vegas Halo Fan in Big Announcement - AngelsWin.com Celebrates 10 Years
As a long time fan I remember so well taking a backseat to the Dodgers in local coverage. Was like that until we actually won the World Series. Things have changed a lot over the last 10-12 years. And make no mistake Angelswin and the efforts of those behind the scenes have a lot to do with how this team is viewed locally and nationally. I could not be happier with how much awareness there is of the team. Thanks chuck for having the desire to pursue this.

Splint7438 got a reaction from Torridd in Salmon vs. Trout
All you need is the eye test to know trout is a better player than salmon was. But if trout plays out his contract and plays five years of a 20 year career in anaheim, would you think of him as the greatest Angel? Is way to soon to make this call yet.
