I still don't understand the thinking on this, especially with Canning. He's only controlled through next year and he's never been healthy or consistent enough for me to think it's ever going to fully click into place for him.
His StatCast numbers aren't great, either--though they do show the effectiveness of his off-speed stuff.

On Sandoval, I'd ship him out immediately if possible, even though he's controlled through 2026. He's about to start getting relatively expensive for what he produces and he's just not a consistent winner. Get what you can for him that'll be useful when the team starts getting better.

I’d love to see Arte pay down half of contract to get the small market teams involved. If we could pull a true stud from one of these teams that fits our young nucleus 3rd base , starting pitching from Anderson, would be a nice first step. I’d also take offers now we do not have a recent history of health and or players staying hot. We are in a rebuild no need to wait.

My ideal deadline on the SP side would be trading Anderson, Canning, and Sandoval— assuming reasonable returns.
Then the rotation looks something like this to finish the season:
Soriano, Detmers, Silseth, Daniel, and Bachman.
If Silseth or Bachman aren’t healthy by then, you just throw guys like Rosenberg and Plesac in. Or even give guys like Suarez, Contreras, or Fulmer a shot if they’re still around.

Trade him first solid offer. He’s pitched well enough so far you may be able to wait until deadline but if you get something offered ahead of that that feels like a good get, pull the trigger. Put Daniel or Rosenberg in and see if they prove anything over 12+ starts.

I said it in another thread, I've flat out been told at least three teams are tracking/scouting Canning. There are a lot of ppl out there that believe he could be a lot better than his career numbers and while that may be true, the years of control aren't there anymore.  If you can cash on on what others view his upside is -- you have to do it.

Kenny Rosenberg. Hell, even Dana.  I don't think it really matters who replaces them, tbh. If you trade all of them, you're clearly rebuilding, so you just need warm bodies to finish out this season.

one look at this roster, and that's why i can't get pissed at the players or the manager when the halos inevitably lose.
i think perry's hands are tied by arte. i think this is all arte's doing and that the blame falls squarely on him.
    sell the team, arte.

Quit being stupid. This isn't the 70s where ex players move into management without any statitistical analysis background. And, if you weren't such an idiot you would realize this is the rebuild taking place. This is what it looks like, a bunch of young guys trying to learn how to effectively play together.

You might check throughout baseball history for the, oh about one million times a player moves from one position to another.
It obviously depends on the player and the positions.
Talk about moving a catcher to short?  No.
Talk about moving a SS to third?  Yeah it’s happened plenty.
Talk about a CF moving to LF?  Yeah, realistic.
Talk about  SS going to CF?  Yeah, realistic.
Talk about a 1B going to center?  Probably not.
But you know where lots and lots of players move to if they change positions?  1B.  3B, 2B, C, and OF have regularly moved to 1B throughout baseball history, especially if they are less athletic than they used to be.
So if you want make fun of people suggesting maybe it’s possible for a young, highly athletic OF that is 6’3” to maybe move to 1B, be my guest, but you would be wrong.
Maybe Adell wouldn’t be able to do it.  But a discussion about considering it isn’t out of bounds at all, especially when you consider much of his trouble defensively has been jumps on balls and taking bad routes.
Notice nobody has suggested they throw catchers gear on him.  Yeah, changing positions can be a project but it’s not like player moving to first base is some crazy thing that never happens.  Going to 1B is probably the position change that happens the most, and plenty of immobile less athletic guys have been able to do it.

I actually like what Minasian has been trying to do. He has improved the analytics, improved the minor league coaching, held off on doing stupid shit like wasting a draft pick on either Bellinger or Snell. But most important, when he got to pick his own manager I think he scored on Washington and the staff he surrounded himself with.
This team is far from a finished project but it now at least has a framework for another 5 plus years to build on. Previous teams were mercenaries and junk. I like where this team can go but this year, nobody is going to like their year end win loss record. Deal with it.

Are you saying he should have gone public? That would be a career killer.
Maybe he has behind the scenes.
I find it difficult to say he is a terrible GM considering our recent history of short-lived GM's. Seems like another entity is the constant here meanwhile the GM's are forever revolving.

I disagree. I'm actually digging watching the Halos more this season than the past few years.
While the 90's sucked in the standings outside of '95, it was great to see Salmon, GA, Edmonds, Erstad, Glaus, Percy, etc. with some of the veterans like Chili Davis, Hudler, Finley, Abbott, Langston.
Seeing those younger guys get the time in and do well all led up to a core that ultimately saw them win a championship together.

The more things change the more they stay the same.
Beyond the gambling drama, it's nice to see someone else having the TEAM's outcome be a footnote to Ohtani's personal achievements.
That shit got dull very quickly.

Dgar24 reacted to Blarg in Can Schanuel be competent in 2024?
Yes, it is. It is a waste of money that only blocks Schanuel and doesn't help his career. Salt Lake won't help him, that ballpark is not going to make him a better hitter or face major league pitching. This year the Angels should only be focused on the advancement of all their young players like Texas did three years ago instead of chasing a .500 season with patchwork veterans.
Fuck, Cron, Belt or any other cast off burnout that will waste another one of these young guys development.

I hope it's nothing. It's time to stop glorifying the Home Run. I'd much rather have the batter hit the ball to the right side with less than 2 outs and a runner on 2B, 80% of the time rather than swing for the fences and hit a Home Run 5% of the time, while striking out 30% of the time.

Dgar24 reacted to Blarg in Ippei fired by Dodgers after being accused of theft by Ohtani’s attorney’s
Okay, the story Ohtani's lawyers are proposing is pure fiction. Here is where the timeline burns them. First it was reported Ohtani was paying off Ippei's gambling debt.
But that is considered a gift and as such it would have to be reported to the IRS by both Ohtani and Ippei and would create a tax burden. If either hadn't reported gambling winnings or debts along with the gift then they are in violation of tax laws.
If either reports gambling winnings or losses, MLB gets involved which would threaten Ohtani's contract and MLB career.
The money came from Ohtani's account which is supervised by his accountant. There is no way these withdrawals could have occurred without Ohtani's accountant being aware and notifing his client.
So Ohtani's lawyer fabricated a story of bank theft, which is nearly impossible. The only real plausible situation is Ohtani was betting and using Ippei to make the transactions thinking it wouldn't be traced back. And I am sure the FBI knows this along with the IRS.
Ippei should have gotten a better lawyer before falling on a sword. Supplying a story that will be proved a lie by the FBI and IRS is going to cost him prison time either way. Bank fraud or lying to cover Ohtani's gambling still lands him in jail. Unless he takes a plea bargin.
