You know this trade sucks when I'm on LT's side.

Chuck with all due respect this is why I wanted to trade Trumbo, whose value is high right now, so that we could have Bourjos in CF while Calhoun swapped in and out with Hamilton between DH/RF.

I think if this trade holds true (Bourjos/Grichuk for Freese/Salas) it was a losing one for us in many ways. In fact I'd go further and say that the fact they want to keep Trumbo over Bourjos shows a real lack of faith in Hamilton and his power staying consistent (thus the need for Mark's power in the lineup).

Maybe the most important thing here is ....Don Baylor gets his #25 back!

    1. Will the last prospect left in our system please close the lights? Do we have a GUY left?
    2. Trades like this is why the Cardinals always compete with a mid-market payroll.
    3. This club will rot in mediocrity for the next decade.

I'd rather have Pete as a fourth OF or a late inning pinch run and defensive guy.   He's a stud in the OF and on the basepaths.

Jerry's subscription to BA ran out last month.   He hasn't renewed yet.  He's flying blind right now.

No but chuck, sometimes you hold onto that guy and let him show off in spring and regenerate that interest.  Don't sell low.   If there's no market for him, don't move him right now.

Why couldn't Calhoun have DH-ed (or played right) and Trumbo get traded?

This is correct. Calhoun has earned his way into a starting role.

I like Calhoun but I think we might be giving him a little too much credit for short term performance. His 2013 was great but I'm not sure he is a better player than Bourjos (even though I think he fits the teams needs better than both Peter & Trumbo).

Cards get younger, Halos get older. Cards defense improves, Halos gets worse. Cards get a young OF prospect with massive raw power who is still developing, Halos get a 29 year old run of the mill reliever

the difference between these 2 orgs really showed in this trade.

Glad that since we didn't have enough Kevin Jepsen/Michael Kohn type's, we decided to grab the Cardinals' version of them.

Just because there is no interest in Bourjos that doesn't excuse trading him for pennies on the dollar. We could've traded Trumbo, who I'm sure there would be some significant interest in...

Salas isn't even one of St. Louis' top 10 prospects according to Baseball America.  /sigh.

Oh cool. They get a relief pitcher who has put up a mid 4 ERA the past 2 seasons. Sounds like the perfect arm to add to this pen

Cards school the Halos on this deal.

It's a typo.  It's supposed to be Salsa.   Pujols is missing his favorite brand.

Freese is coming off a terrible season in which he had back trouble and is on the wrong side of 30. Plus he's a terrible defender.

Bourjos is injury-prone, but still only 27 and one of he best defensive players in the game. When he's healthy he plays like a star.

Bad, bad trade. I've lost all faith in Jerry Dipoto.

Put me on record that a Freese for Bourjos trade would be horrendous and ought to warrant Dipoto's termination.  But I'll reserve judgment until I see who is actually coming back.

I'm not sure anyone thinks he is 'innocent.' Well ARod might believe he's innocent but that's not the point.

The point is that ARod is being singled out, worse even than Bonds was. Guys like Andy Pettite are applauded and their guilt swept under the rug because they say all the right things, but guys like Bonds and Arod are ran out of the league, and in Alex case he'll conveniently lose the record number of millions owed to him in the process. I have yet to see it demonstrated that ARod did anything worse than any of these other guys.
