The Rangers are on their way to winning their 6th in a row since this thread was started.

Comparing Bochy to Nevin is a little silly.
It would only make sense to compare Bochy to the greatest manager the Angels have ever had, Mike Scioscia.
Bochy won four times as many pennants and three times as many World Series as Scioscia.
But sure, let’s double down on the idea that Bochy is nothing special to facilitate the agenda that Phil Nevin IS special.
Wow.

How's he going to help the young starters other than to say, "Don't pitch like I do"?

khouse reacted to jsnpritchett in Anderson, Cron to the IL, Moustakas activated, Carson Fulmer called up, Trout moved to the 60-day IL
Yeah, Fletcher has it wrong. He was last in the bigs in '21.

So...you think Perry should stay for, essentially, doing his job as a GM?

Unfortunately, yes. Look at his line from last night.

https://www.mlb.com/angels/news/anthony-rendon-ready-for-2023-after-wrist-hip-surgeries
“Even if the season doesn’t work out or the next four years don’t work out, I’m planning for taking care of my kids when they get older. Hip surgeries, wrist surgeries, ankle surgeries … I want to play with them when they are 10, 12, 15 years old.
Given his comments regarding his "nagging" injury history & his want to spend more time with his children...I think it's more likely, at this point, that he retires...

EDIT: in the next year? I’ll say Rendon gets dropped.
But I do think IF Arte sells the team, it’ll just happen out of nowhere since he’s already gone down the road with prospective buyers last year and presumably laid some groundwork.

Ran out of gas as a closer? First, we have not won enough games where he was needed to save a good portion of those hypothetical wins in order to be at the point of exhaustion. Also, he typically only pitches one inning, and not every game. I doubt he is out of gas. He may be full of gas for all I know, but he is certainly not out of it. His peripherals just have not been that strong all season. I think it was just a matter of time until it caught up with him.
The team definitely should be looking for a new closer. If he stays healthy, I think Joyce could fit the bill. He throws high-octane heat consistently and has wicked movement on his pitches and has a couple of good secondary pitches. That is the stuff of a closer.

Game over...Estevez today & Loup the day before yesterday. Wow...both players continue in their mastery of SUCK...

If Walsh is truly back, the Angels need him.

Let's just say Walsh is easy to root for and I hope he makes it all the way back. He'd be great to have in RF and backup at 1B.
The excerpts about his struggles and thought process was interesting.

khouse reacted to Tank in Sad News about Our Brother Lou (iebruin)
The funeral mass and burial for Lou took place on Friday. @Adam @mrwicked and I were there. It was a simple but dignified service, and we got to hear from his sister and a couple of his nieces as they spoke.
One of the better things I've seen at a funeral was that they asked everyone to wear their favorite sports jersey. Plenty of Angels jersey as you can imagine but I only saw one UCLA jersey. Someone had the nerve to show up in a Dodgers jersey.
Adam and I left after the funeral mass but mrwicked continued on to the burial and to @stpat373's house for stories and remembrances. wicked said there were a lot of good stories and lots of laughter, and it would've been just like Lou would've wanted it to be.
The family shared something in the printed program that was unknown to most people - Lou had been planning to move to Mexico and do some work with orphanages. Lou and I had talked about him retiring and moving south, but I didn't know about the orphanges angle. My impression was that after his mother passed, he wanted to do something that was meaningful - I could be wrong about that, but that was my take.
Lou was able to hear our stories that we posted here, and they meant a lot to him and to his family.
Every time I log in to this site, I think of him. I miss him a lot.

khouse reacted to jsnpritchett in Gameday Thread: (9/19/23 3:40 Pacific) Angels @ Rays: Sandoval on the mound, Adell in RF
If the game ends with the Angels losing 6 to 2, with Neto and O'Hoppe hitting HRs and Schanuel extending his on-base streak, I'm totally fine with that outcome. Seeing the rookies hitting well and the team potentially improving their draft position is about all you can ask for at this point.

I went downstairs to feed the dogs and the game was tied at two and Loup completely fucks the game over.
It's like he has decided the only contribution he can offer is to make sure the Angels get the lowest pick in the draft they can.
Loup, you magnificent asshole.

If the bold numbers happen, the Angels will be good. Doesn't even matter what the other numbers are.
That being said, good luck with that.

Over the last 3 years, only 17 teams had even 7 different guys play 120+ games. Ten of them made the playoffs.
