Anyone notice how pitching just keeps getting more and more expensive? It's like real estate, you keep thinking that bubble will pop and then the fixer upper down the street goes for twice you bought yours for. Or maybe that's just a localized thing where I live. Not an expert on that.
I remember when the Corbin and Wheeler deals were reported, many fans thought, "Glad we didn't pay that, I can't believe he got that much!"
And now you look at those deals and think, "Not bad. I'd pay that."
Hand, Kluber, Smyly, Ray, Richards, and even Quintana are all getting about 4-5 million more than they likely should've. But pitching is at such a premium and the trade market prices haven't presented realistic alternatives (Darvish deal was good, but the price on Snell and Musgrove was eye opening).
The only way to forego this situation is to develop it on your own, which is why Detmers, Rodriguez and Kochanowicz are all so vital. I love the athleticism from Eppler drafts, but pitching is so important, I think they may have been mistaken not taking arms early.
I doubt any of us would lose sleep on not having Thaiss (though I still think he'll be a decent major leaguer), and instead having Forrest Whitley. Or as much as this would hurt, not having Jordyn Adams but instead having Dakota Hudson or Shane McClanahan.

So apparently Bauer has his own rap group. Old news but I just found out about it.
    I don't want him anymore.

This is the Angels we're talking about here. If only one pitcher is hurt, that would be otherworldly successful. It's a script we've already seen play out.
Worst case, and judging by the last couple years, most realistic: Andrew Heaney is going to deal with deadarm that lasts for 3 weeks in April. Canning's elbow will act up in March and he'll need six weeks for everything to calm down, and will return shortly before Memorial Day. Shohei Ohtani will lose command of his pitches and suddenly experience a significant velo drop in the second inning of a Spring Training start, and shift into a DH role.
If that happens, Barria, Sandoval, Naughton, Detmers, and Rodriguez should find plenty of opportunity at some point in 2021.
But that paints a darker picture than is reality. Some good will come of it. Bundy still continue to pitch like a front end arm, Quintana will be unspectacular, yet efficient. Barria will emerge as a solid 4th starter, and Sandoval will be decent for 3 innings at a time, which should lead to a successful run in the bullpen.

AngelsWin in October: We're getting Trevor Bauer and Luis Castillo!!!!

AngelsWin in January: I really feel in my heart that Jose Quintana and Chris Archer are good value.

If we can’t get Bauer, then Taillon + a good RP or two + semi-decent RF is not a bad alternative.  Shorten the game with bullpen.  But risky again with so much injury issues for Rotation.

I would trade for Taillon in a heartbeat if the price is right.
you'd have to think that he's gonna cost less than Musgrove who's prospect haul wasn't what I expected.
    Taillon and Rodriguez (Richard)
    for
    Deveaux
    Jackson
    Martinez
    Suarez
or the other option would be to take on Greg Polanco on a pure salary dump with the two listed above and take Jackson out of the mix.
or you could include Adam Frazier instead of Polanco and add another prospect or two.  That would be a one stop shop and add about 8m in total payroll.  Which could still leave room for Hand.  Frazier can play 2b or OF and is a very solid defender.

that would make him one of the worst pitchers in baseball.  You failed the math test once, your teacher gave you another shot, and you put the same wrong answer.

We’ll be right back here in 10-12 months after another disappointing season of missing the playoffs and in desperate need for top SP. Looking forward to the draft at least.

6 innings of 4 to 5 runs would amount to a 6.00 ERA at it's best or 7.50 at it's worst -- on what planet would that bare minimum 6.00 ERA be league average?

Go be stupid in response to someone else's comments.

I’m more liking the thought that if Bauer would take two years for $70-$80 million, do it.
Then by 2023, assuming at least Bundy is extended, you still have Bundy, Canning, Detmers, CRod, Barria, and Ohtani.

    "Lower your expectations" hahahaha.
    Two things....
1: The Angels have lowered our expectations over the last few years
2: I'm sure that's what they tell Trout every year he says "we getting an Ace, Arte?"
