Well it's been a long time coming for you Stradling -- but as they say...it's never to late.  Takes a big man to admit his faults and i'm very proud you've done so.  I truly look forward to seeing your improvements and reading such in your future replies/posts 😉😜

Did the Angels pass or did he want an opportunity to close?  Seems like all these one year deals are indicative of a lot players wanting to reenter the market under potentially better conditions next year.

Trading for a legit closer may very well end up being the huge breaking news of this winter for the Angels....  At this point people should probably give up the dream.
Something exciting could still happen, but it seems like a long shot at this point.

Rotations of other top AL teams:

    NYY - Cole-Severino-Kluber-Taillon-Montgomery
    TOR - Ryu-Pearson-Roark-Matz-Ray
TB - Glasnow-Patino-Archer-Wacha-Yarbrough (with Honeywell-McClanahan-McKay in the pipeline)
    CWS - Giolito-Keuchel-Lynn-Cease-Lopez-Rodon
    MIN - Berrios-Maeda-Pineda-Happ-Dobnak
    CLE - Bieber-Plesac-Civale-McKenzie-Plutko-Allen
    BOS - Sale-Rodriguez-Richards-Eovaldi-Perez
    OAK - Montas-Manaea-Luzardo-Bassitt-Puk
    HOU - Greinke-Valdez-McCullers-Javier-Urquidy

I mean is what we have even close to most, if really any of these teams.  I don’t believe it is.  And the fact that 9 years into the Trout era, with no playoff wins, we’re still questioning this is absolutely negligent to me.  Something is seriously wrong with this organization’s philosophy about pitching.

Counting on Heaney & Canning to be injury free and make 30+ starts each seems optimistic to me.
Counting on 2021 Bundy to put up 2020 Bundy numbers also seems optimistic.  His first 7 starts were great, but the next 4 dropped off quite a bit.  Although, i am a believer in Bundy going forward.  Not quite the Ace he was his first 7 starts inn 2020, but somewhere in-between that and his last 4 starts (a good #2).

You need to take off your rose colored Angel fan glasses and come back to reality.  It's ok if the Angels have question marks.  You don't have to protect them like it's your little son/daughter.  Just like our CF is the best in all of MLB while some other teams have question marks/issues.  We are awesome at some positions (CF, 3B) and we have questions at others.  That's why we have not had a winning record since 2015 (five years!).  For SP -- it's an issue for us.  Deal with it.
Padres: i'm talking 2021.  Clev/Lamet do not matter to them in 2021.  If you think Snell/Darvish/Musgrove/Paddack/etc. is equivalent to the angels on any level than you are kidding yourself.  They do not have question marks / injury concerns.
LAD: who cares about Kershaw and the others.  Those guys can all sit for 2021 and the LAD will have no problems SP wise.  Again, you are comparing apples to Oranges.   Also, putting May in there makes no sense.  Sure he has yet to pitch 30+ start in the Majors, but that's not due to injuries or lack of talent.

I just can't imagine having to replace 4 pitchers next offseason. Surely they will extend Bundy if they aren't adding anyone else?
Or is the new "philosophy" to fill the rotation with cheap 1-year deals? If that's the case I want off Mr. Bones' Wild Ride because that's pants-on-head ret...stupid.

Angels in 2030 reacted to totdprods in Breaking: Alex Cobb TRADED to Angels for Jahmai Jones
My best guess is still that this was intended more as an insurance move...almost like when we picked up Chris Stratton. There was some underlying data they liked, he was being shopped - it’s possible the Orioles initiated this because they loved Jones or thought Cobb would be useful here, and with Archer signing for $6.5m, perhaps the Angels perhaps were starting to see their insurance/rebound/ST invite-type targets become too pricey for their taste, and Cobb fit into that tier.
Cobb is cheap enough to be cut or moved to long-relief if he blows in spring or if someone like Barria outguns him for a spot. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Barria was in the pen and used as a swingman, picking up starts to help with Ohtani’s rotation. I know Barria looked awful in the pen before but maybe it was mental and they think it can be overcome
I also really think they’re still shopping for another impact arm (or perhaps Contreras) and realizing it will cost them at least one of Canning, Barria, Suarez, Sandoval, and Detmers, and this stabilizes the back of the rotation if they do indeed go ahead with a deal, but it also isn’t an acquisition that requires them to move someone since, as pointed out, Barria could be just as good as Cobb.

Fun fact: Over the last three years, 150 pitchers have thrown over 200 innings. Cobb and Barria are tied for 129th-130th with 1.5 fWAR.
Cost of Cobb in 2021: $5M plus Jahmai Jones
Cost of Barria in 2021: $575,000

Because given Eppler's track record with pitchers, if evaluation had anything to do with it, 20 other teams would've beat the Angels to the lunch.
Skill doesn't make him dead wrong in every pitcher except Bundy. But luck does.

Okay, at the risk of looking stupid at a later date, I have no idea why the Angels made this deal, losing a bench prospect in the process. You were 100% correct, @Dochalo. Have no idea why we couldn't try to sign Archer at $6.5M or even bring back Matt Shoemaker or the like, it is about the same difference, probably.
Hope the Angels front office saw or knows something that we don't.

I think you're all setting yourself up for disappointment if you think there's another move on the horizon pitching wise.
    - First, they don't need to make a trade. Ohtani is the 6th starter and Barria is in long relief. That's a set up you want. If Ohtani is healthy, he's an ace on a strict pitch and inning count. Meaning he'll be relegated to 4-5 innings to protect him, so by function, they'll need Barria to go a couple innings every 6th day regardless.
    - Second, teams that need pitching, don't trade pitching. Heaney and Canning aren't being dealt before the season starts.
    - Third, keeping Sandoval in AAA is the exact sort of depth this team needs.
    - Fourth, I think Detmers and Rodriguez are closer than most people here even realize. They might be ready in May, or at the latest, the start of next season. The likely ETA is probably July/August for both of them and you don't want impede that path.
    - Fifth, it's clear that Minasian didn't identify the Angels pitching problems as a lack of upside as much as he viewed them to be a lack of floor, and ill-fitting. He's got a very strong defensive infield so he acquired two pitchers that can both keep the ball on the ground and manage innings to save the wear and tear on the bullpen. Let's hope he right.

It's a sad state of affairs of the Angels team, FO and salary situation when a 35 year old "half-way decent" SP is considered a positive.  Kind of says it all.

Heaney > Walker (someone seriously wants to sign Walker to a 2-3 year deal....yikes risky).
Arguably Heaney > Odorizzi (at worst the same...but i'd rather extend Heaney than pay 3+ years to Odorizzi).

Yeah, I'd even look at extending Bundy if he comes out of the gate well to a 2-year extension.
