On the surface, this is a bleh move that does little to move the needle. Improves the depth for sure though. Reserving judgement on completely dismissing/disliking this move depending on the full details aka I sure as hell hope the Angels aren't on the hook for all the $15M that Cobb is set to make this year and I hope this isn't their last SP move prior to the start of the season

Another one year deal...  We are going to have to replace our entire pitching staff again next year. The good news is it allows us to trade them all if we are out of the race I guess.  Just seems like we will be going through all of this again in a year.

One year deals, when it comes to signing/acquiring veteran SPs, is actually probably an optimal solution.  Most long-term FA SP deals end terribly.

What we really need, beyond all else, is to hope that our young pitching grows and develops on the farm.  That is what we really need.

Will have to wait for all the details to emerge.  Considering we signed Quintana to a 1/8 deal, I really have a hard time imaging that we will be paying Cobb more than that, as he is an inferior pitcher.

I am hoping to hear something like the Orioles are eating 10mil or so of his deal, but we'll see.

Seems like an odd acquisition. Perhaps the Orioles are eating a ton of money and this is a much cheaper route than an Odorizzi or Paxton. Or perhaps it is domino one in another move that results in Canning or Heaney being sent out for a better starter.

That, to me, is the only way this deal makes any sense.  As I mentioned above, Quintana is a much better quality pitcher than Cobb, and Quintana is only costing us 8mil for 1 year.  Hard to imagine us paying Cobb double that to be a worse pitcher.
