This is probably just the Angels trying to improve their AAA depth.
They brought in Mayfield and DFA'd Garcia, hoping that Garcia can clear waivers and they can stash him in AAA and outside of their 40-man roster. Then, in a couple weeks, they may even DFA Mayfield and hope he clears waivers in order to stash him in AAA and off the 40-man roster.
You're seeing lots of teams do this right now.

I highly doubt the players wait till the day they are to travel and find out they have Visa issues.  My guess would be they have to submit paperwork weeks ahead of time, then they play the waiting game.  You also very well could be dealing with not just the US to grant it but their local government to submit the paperwork.  Blaming the players for procrastinating is probably an oversimplification. 

Anyone believing Minasian is truly finished have never remodeled a house.  There is a point where you've done enough work to llive with it but still have trim to finish. 

It's funny to me that some people like to predict what's going to happen or not happen all the time.  All. The. Time.  If you throw enough crap against the wall, eventually something is going to stick.
Different strokes and all that, I guess.
Minasian has made it clear that he's always looking to improve the ball club.

If the Angels had made several good moves already, no one would bat an eyelash at this move. It's because it comes in this dearth of an off-season that we feel like a group of thirsty dogs who were just served salt water.

Wow, some of you need to chill the f out. We just got a competent player to replace the glaring hole we had in RF, at a cost that doesn’t prevent more moves. This is a fine move. It might even be worth a win or two to the overall bottom line. And if Adell is any good, he will quickly take over the position from Fowler. 

I love how people don't want Bauer now because he hasn't signed a contract on their timetable. 

And comparing what Eppler did and how he evaluated players compared to how Miniasian is something fans should stop doing as well. 

Now we are going to enter the part of the thread where we over value Jam Jones because he played well for a week last year.

I think some of you are getting worked up over nothing.  It may end up being something, but until Minasian is done with the off-season, there's no reason to judge this or anything else he's done until we have a complete picture. 
It's all a work in progress... and hopefully, there's actual progress.
Not every deal is going to wow AW.  Some deals don't make sense until everything is complete.
Many of you wanted a guy who was process oriented... well, let him work the process.  There's lots of steps in a process.  This is just one of them.

I was really fortunate to get Joe Maddon on my podcast yesterday to talk about Angels baseball and the growth of the game here in the UK.
But amongst what I found to be a really interesting conversation (although some of you may not) - he confirmed that the Angels are still looking to add 1-2 more starting pitchers and that he believes there a lot of good players still out there (which suggests the free agent market) and also confirms again the desire to go with the six man rotation.
He really hyped up Brandon Marsh as someone we should see this year and also loves Reid Detmers

Fat chance Hendricks is available, just don't see any way the Cubs move on from Lester, Darvish, Quintana, Chatwood, and Hendricks all in one offseason.  That's a full rotation.  Maybe for an insane overpayment that it wouldn't be wise for us to give up anyways.

I'm going on record that Odorizzi will be a terrible signing and his AS campaign is a total outlier.
Outside of 2019, his FIP has been awful in 4 out of the 5 years since 2016. It was 5.43 in 2017, which is horrifying. He doesn’t miss bats, and his HR rate is scary as fuck. Granted, he might benefit from pitching in Anaheim in that regard.
He's on the wrong side of 30, his pitch values are...not great, he's an extreme flyball pitcher, and his ZIPS projection has him at a 4.44 ERA for 2021 over just 120 IP. Not saying that's accurate but that sounds a lot like a disappointing Quintana season.

Has anyone considered the fact that Torres source was offering an opinion and they are just wrong?  Or that the other source offering info to other people are just wrong.  
They're getting this info from other people.  Not from Arte or Minasian.  People embellish.  Writers embellish based on what their sources say.  They give opinions.  Many imply that they are stating facts when they are merely opinions.  

Cards / Rocks Arrenado talks may be an avenue (*3 team) to shed a large contract and get a less expensive one in return with a usable roster piece . If you believe the Twitter guy and his sources.

I am as well.  But I would not be disappointed if we avoided rash behavior and made another move that could be very painful to work around over the next three or four years.  There is justification to stretch a bit but the player has to be a no brainer.  

I read Sonny Gray alot but not sold Cincy would just hang it up in the NL Central which like the AL West seems weaker on paper. 
 
Jon Gray on the other hand from the Rocks I may believe. Not sure it’s better than anything out in the market unless you can bring another piece with it to fill a hole. Márquez suggestions seem like the Castillo thoughts earlier in the off season and would wipe out the farm. Not sure our new GM is ready for all in mode, in his first year.

Agreed, but I am very doubtful Gray is available. 

Angels 40 man is currently at 38 and my guess is we're likely to add a couple more pitchers so picking up a couple guys off waivers would likely be futile at this point.  Plus, there is likely to be quite a few options available at the end of the off season where he might get a couple solid players on cheap major league or even minor league contracts.
