Second Base got a reaction from HaloOnFire in OC Register: Angels’ Anthony Rendon hoping to avoid more injuries in his ‘job’
Rendon doesn't give a F___. And you know what? HE'S GOT IT ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.
it's more important to be a "good man" than to be a good baseball player.
Any functioning man that takes his family to church and has a relationship with Christ would tell you the same thing. It's not about your vocation, but your avocation.
I love my job. I'm passionate about it and I'm good at it. But it's only a job. My faith and my family are the priority. I'm just grateful I get to do both.

Adell's exit velocities, athleticism and work ethic are all elite. There's just so much more to this game then that. It's all a game of adjustments. And Adell adjusts, he's just slow at it.
Opportunity also has to present itself. I'm highly skeptical the Angels will be competitive this year, yet for some reason they saw fit to bring in Hicks. So now Adell will need to displace Moniak and Hicks just to get a look.

I do agree with the board left that we don't need another team in Florida though. Both teams are moderately supported but they also both rank near the bottom in payroll, and while the Rays and Florida are headed towards a new stadium deal, playing this many years at Tropicana was never the intent.
Pick a couple locations that aren't where Spring Training is played.
And hopefully the Angels can get this ballpark business sorted out soon. Otherwise, they may be on the move, like many smart former Californians.

That's cool that he's not that far from you but honestly I hate that these announcers aren’t in the ballpark (where the games are being played).

And as for the Padres, it sounds like it's not a teardown as much as it was a scheduled retooling of the roster. They went for it, it failed. No shame. But they're going to keep their long-term pieces in place, which for better or worse, are Tatis, Cronenworth, Machado...
If reports are true about Jarren Duran, they're looking for controllable, upside options in return for their rental pieces and prospects.
Ward's power probably doesn't play up much in SD and probably manifests in a very similar fashion to Wil Myers. And that's if he's healthy. I don't think the Angels and Padres match up really. Maybe they want Drury and Rengifo but they probably wouldn't pay a steep price.

Really hoping Minasian keeps building around the perimeter of the roster with smaller deals, and minor league signings with upside. Don't spend on any flawed and expensive free agents. Have the guts to see the beginning of this googly necessary rebuild through.
Guys like Pomeranz and Sano are cheap lotto tickets that can bring in more prospects at the deadline.

And in addition to the previous domestic violence and alcohol issues, German has thrown over 108 innings just once in his career.
Bauer is not only cleared of that past charge, he also gives you at least a solid 6 innings usually.   Even in Japan, he averaged 6.5 innings a start and threw 156 innings after missing a year and a half.

Just to paint the picture for you...
You've got a team that's 40 million under budget, whose GM literally said they won't be lowering payroll, and a roster with vacancies and flexibility, combined with a large group of free agents that specifically fit this teams needs...
For me, it's not a question of "if" but "who" and "when".
As far as specifics... They're never right, but here's what I got.
Angels trade Jo Adell and Brandon Drury to the Padres for pitching prospects Jairo Iriarte and __________.
Matt Chapman's market never materializes beyond some basement offer from SF, and he signs with the Angels for 2/45.
Nearly two weeks into Spring Training and Snell is still without a team and he accepts the Angels offer of 6/180 with opt outs every other year.
We're treated to articles from Jeff Fletcher about Rendon embracing his new DH role, but always keeps his glove ready.

Sort of. Other teams have greater volume than the Angels, no doubt about that. But no, you're incorrect when you said other teams have similar guys to Neto, Schanuel and O'Hoppe in larger quantity. They don't.
Those guys are pretty good, pretty young and have a bright future. In fact it's pretty rare for a team to have three guys under the age of 24 in a starting major league lineup with all-star caliber upside that are all former or current top 100 prospects.
The teams that do have that are usually seen as juggernauts on the upswing, like the Orioles and the Rangers. You certainly wouldn't expect to see a team like the Angels have that, and yet they do.

In regards to prospects, I'd rather have a few major leaguers that are age 24, than several prospects that are 20.
The point is to win at the highest level.
It would mean something if we had a bottom ranked system AND no Neto, O'Hoppe, Bachman, Silseth, Joyce or Schanuel in the majors.

Late 2000's and early 2010's. . Got to know many prospects and scouts on a personal level. Had job offers.. Everyone was going to be a major leaguer, super rosy red outlook, as my reputation still precedes.
    Naivity is blissful.

I think they will and it's going to be Blake Snell. Something like 6/180 with opt outs coming in years two and four.
He gets paid the money that he's clearly worth while also scoring opt outs for a better situation every other year. There might even be a spoken deal that has Minasian dealing him away if they aren't competitive.
It's an imperfect yet decent enough fit. First things first, I think he's the only pitcher in baseball that has three offerings with a 50% whiff rate, which is just unheard of outside of very specific Cy Young types. The Angels definitely need more swing and miss. Second, I think being left handed really protects him from the short porch in RF moreso than most. Third, the bullpen depth works to his advantage. Fourth, I don't think he gets too bent out of shape over contract negotiations or not having a team before ST. He's very even keeled. He'll just keep playing his video games until it's time to show up and pitch.

I'd offer Bauer the ML minimum deal that he said he'd accept, and offer Bellinger a 5 or 6 year deal.
I really think we haven't done anything to replace Ohtani's impact on our offense.

I just figured I'd create a thread where people could post openings in their fantasy baseball leagues here.
I just filled all my spots in my 10-Team Dynasty League that's celebrating our 16th year but I'm open to joining a deeper league if there's a competitive one. I'll let you guys know if any other leagues I join have openings.
    Happy Hunting!
