I don’t think you grasp the concept of a sunk cost, which is what the final years of Pujols’ contract were always going to be. Most people understand you don’t give playing time to a bad player just because you’re paying him more money than almost everyone else.

I think it makes sense to get one of the two, especially if we are going to save Ohtani for a month or two to give him more meaningful innings. That would open a spot in the rotation and let us see if Wood or Walker start to pan out.

Lol at using Eovaldi against Eppler. That contract is a point in Eppler’s favor and evidence that it’s probably not smart to drop a huge amount on non elite pitchers. Wheeler was offered more money by the White Sox so it would have taken more than 120, and taken us out on Cole most likely. Wheeler is probably regretting signing so early, he’d get 5/150 if he waited until after Strasburg and Cole.
But yeah, Corbin was a definite miss in hindsight.

I continue to have faith in Eppler as I have really appreciated his big-picture approach to running the organization.
For the life of me, I can't understand what those that are stating that we should have spent money on FA pitching so as to avoid having to trade our prospects for pitching are thinking.  While I wholeheartedly agree with the premise, as I believe Eppler would as well, given hindsight, what reliable plan are those of this mindsight thinking would have been viable?
Cole, Wheeler, Madbum, and Stras were never coming here.  Furthermore, given their contracts, many of us here would have passed on them anyway.
Ryu/Keuchel were available for some time.  While they were, multiple threads were posted on the negative effects to signing either of them.  Knowing what they received in compensation, are those that are arguing we should have spent on FA pitching essentially saying Eppler made a mistake by not offering them more than what they received?  If so, I would agree that signing them may have helped us improve this year's club and perhaps bought him a little more time.  But 2-3 years from now I believe the same people would be holding him accountable for signing either of those two pitchers to the very contract they would endorse now.  
So what SP FA did Eppler miss out on or make a mistake by not signing that would have put us in a better position this year and in the future?
Again, I appreciate Eppler's big-picture approach.  It just sucks that Mike has had to endure the rebuild.

He doesn’t really help the Angels tho, he’s just another arm.  One with diminished stuff and plenty of injury red flags.  Everyone is so sure that the Angels are completely fucked in the rotation that they just have to get “help” from David Price or Ryu or Keuchel.  If they are that bad it doesn’t matter for this season.  What do we think Price looks like in 2021 and 2022 ? Is he going to help then ?  Why don’t we just save the money and wait for a guy without all the shit.  The Angels need a top of the rotation arm.  They have the other types.  We don’t need to ram a square peg into a circle hole.  David Price is not an ace anymore and his ability today doesn’t justify paying him 17 million a year or whatever.  And oh, for the right to pay that we’ll have to trade off prospects we barely have.  I don’t care if they’re in low A.  It’s still prospect capital the team doesn’t need to waste.  Which, thanks to the Cozart deal we’ve done a great job of this offseason. 
 
and yes, it is good to let Boston have trouble escaping their shitty contracts.  This is a team that will get good again quickly.  Which is bad objectively bad for the Angels.

Glad to see you completely missed the point. 2014 had nothing to build on besides Trout.

The Eppler defense is ridiculous. All I saw on here before this offseason was how the Angels were supposed to build for 2020 and beyond. And here we are now, no star starting pitchers whom they got in the last few months Eppler deserves to go, period! This guy is just a fraud, like Pujols.
