If Arte chooses the pivot, I think it's overpaying Bellinger or Snell.

If Perry chooses the pivot, I think it's a trade for a SP + a DH signing.

I agree to both, but both of these scenarios scare me. They can't compete.

Best chances to compete are to sign Ohtani, trade for a strong arm and maybe take a run at Yamamoto. It's not my money and i'm tired of losing.

No idea how the hell we get one of these guys vs any other team bidding. Perry would need to be creative/aggresive.
Sandoval, Detmers, Ward, Moniak, Silseth, Dana, Adell and Paris are the only names that bring "value". Question is, how far are you willing to go?

Majority of those players you kind of need..... unless they do something else. Trade one of Sandoval/Detmers/Silseth for a top arm then make hard push for Yamomoto?

  3. Thought this was an interesting thought.

Have a feeling Ohtani is holding everything up.

It's obvious and it's not the players holding up to see $ amount. It's the other teams waiting for their next course of action.

If he comes back to the Angels then suddenly the Blue Jays and Dodgers fire to the trade market.

Also why the Angels haven't made moves yet. They're waiting on Ohtani.

  5. Leave it to ABC7 news to show the most detail regarding the Angels. They're the onyl people that have openly said the Angels feel confident in retaining him...... No writer really knows at this point. HA.

In a vacuum, this is 100% accurate and very doable, IMO. The problem is there are quite a few other teams who can do exactly this same scenario plus offering something better than what we could to get Burnes, and that's what makes it difficult. What type of package can the Angels offer before it starts to become detrimental to the club today, to the point where it either cancels the benefit Yelich and Burnes brings, or the point where it eats away MLB depth enough that they have to pay elsewhere for low-tier FA landmines.

I do really like Yelich despite the rough stretches he's had and the contract, and think a change of scenery/return home could suit him well. I really like the safe 70-80 walks he'd bring in.
One curious thing I've noticed - he went opposite field dramatically more last year...wondering how eliminating the shift affected him.

Agree to disagree. Teams absolutely can offer better prospects, however, I don't think a lot of them are willing to take on a contract like Yelich's. Obviously, the Brewers would retain some of the cash, but i'd be curious to see who's actually willing to take that kind of money.

Dodgers could just offer straight prospects for Burnes and barely scratch their farm system.... Sadly.

  7. Offseason Plan:

    Sign Ohtani: 12yr $552M = $46 AAV
    Sign Jordan Hicks: 3yr/$15M = $5M AAV
Trade Rengifo + Kochanowicz for Shane Bieber = +$7,200,000 AAV
Trade Silseth + Dana + Adell for Corbin Burnes = + $14,100,000 AAV

Gets you just shy of the $73M before hitting the tax.

    IDK.......

It really comes down to how much Arte wants to win vs how much he wants to just make money. Up till now, he hasn't been willing to go the distance in terms of what he'll spend. Last year, though, he at least went over the tax (not sure whether we ended up over or not), so it gives you hope that maybe he actually does want to win.

Dude doesn't have many years left to live so I hope winning is beyond making money at this point. He's already made plenty of money, hasn't won much.
