It’s been reported he asked not to be traded this year. I have no idea if it’s true.
If it actually is true then i'd be a little more upset with him. I get leaving for wanting to win. He 100% deserves to do it, but blocking something only to leave screws an organization over.

What if Arte said, “we offered over $500 million and we thought he wanted to stay here after asking not to be traded at the deadline”? What would that do for free agents? What would that say to fans? What is the positive outcome? People who hate Arte will hate Arte. Would fans really change their opinion of the situation? Will free agents really want to hear him blame a player?
Genuine question - Did Ohtani actually ask not to be traded? If so.... both times?

Question?
Would you rather him rage spend after missing out on Ohtani or become apathetic after missing out on Shohei and do nothing?
Again, it's a weird place if he's doing either one.
Rage spending in the past hasn't helped the team at all and doing nothing won't help at all either. I know I shouldn't care about a single player, instead care for the organization, but damn I really really feel for Trout. Sure, he's getting paid, but baseball deserves to see him playing October baseball.
At least Arte will announce the team is back on the market come July/August.

Please sign Yamamoto now. The team needs a top starter and he is 25. Fits win now mode and fits long term improvement as well.
This is one of the long term contract that (other than same risk of injury of any deal) makes more sense than most.
We aren't close to win-now mode. He's a pipe dream for us. Only way to get him is to have Arte overpay

Angels fans have 0 reason to be upset with Ohtani. The dude simply wants to play on a winning team. Does it suck that he left? Hell yes it does.
The only person to blame is the owner for not having a talented enough organization to compete and make him want to stay.

I think Moreno is probably against that.
well he accidentally conceived Pujols, Rendon, and Hamilton.

So is Arte about to have a reactionary move like he did when he missed on Cole?
-
Like he saved $700M.
I just feel for Trouty. Angels have now confirmed a step back. Not sure what their plans are going forward, but it's going to be rough. -
I think I would have done $700M considering he has substantials defferals that "cover the majority of the salary". The team can remain competitive.
WOW. Literally in shock....

I still don’t think it’s about squeezing more money. I think he’s struggling with the decision.
Good point. As much as I want him back with the Angels, it'll still be a small W if he ditched the Dodgers for Toronto. Would be a much easier pill to swallow.

I wonder what team has the advantage the longer this drags out with Ohtani.
Has he not found what he's looking for in other teams that might cause him to come back to the Angels?
Is it a bidding war?If he wanted to return to Anaheim then I don't see why that hasn't happened already. Maybe he just wants Arte to dish out more cash, though that doesn't sound like him.

The Angels operate in secrecy; I’ll believe we are still in it until Ohtani makes his decision.
nobody predicted us signing Albert, CJ, Trout extension, and Ohtani. If there is one thing that Moreno is excellent at; it’s keeping a lid on how he’s operating. He’s very much in this fight, his ego will not lose Ohtani to the Dodgers without an excellent sales pitch and effort. Are we the favorites to sign him? Maybe not but this won’t be an easy decision for Ohtani.
I really think it comes down to Dodgers vs Angels.
Toronto is an interesting thought, but at the end of all this, I think they come in 3rd place.Arte will just need to pay up and put a major plan in place to make this team competitive.

if ohtani signs elsewhere, then purely by default sandoval would be the #1 pitcher on this staff. I don't see him being a #1 guy by any metric, and that'll be problematic for the team.
that's why i'd trade him for burnes is that was the price. burnes has that ability. as part of the trade, i'd work like crazy to also sign him to a long term contract so that he's more than just a one year rental, which is why trading for him is such a big risk. if he wouldn't agree to that, then i'd look elsewhere like bieber (as long as he's signed for beyond '24) or someone of that caliber.
it's also why i'd try to sign bauer this winter.
He's already the #1 pitcher on the staff heading into next year....

They keep talking about the Dodgers and Blue Jays.
You notice there hasn't been a single peep from the Angels? They've just been thrown in with the other teams as "being in". Not a hint of anything. This is the team that he spent his entire career with so far. Complete radio silence.
I'm sure the noise around the Dodgers and Blue Jays is legitimate. That's what the media is getting.
But the Angels are still absolutely in it. I don't think money will be an issue. It's ultimately going to come down to whether he values comfort over winning, and he very well might.
Let's get one thing straight.... The dude wants to win. If he ends up signing a 10-12yr contract with the Angels then the chances of him having a chance to win are very high.
Yes, i know Mike Trout as an example.... But at some point then Angels will be good again.
Do the Angels owe us an explanation?

Let's just have Sam Blum get that exclusive Arte Moreno interview. That'd be gold.
