This just tells me how stupid Arte is.

Even if we as fans had some level of hope that he’d come back, we weren’t surprised when he left.

He’s also the guy who didn’t match the offer.

He’s literally the guy in the hot dog suit saying, “we’re all looking for the guy who did this.”

Well then what happened to Perry saying they have a "plan A, plan B and plan C"?

Clearly Ohtani was plan A, but you've got plan B to work with. Obviously they talked about it prior to all this going down so now GO DO PLAN B.

Or just sell the team finally and get the hell away from Anaheim, California and the West Coast.

I’d balk too on giving $700 million to someone who may or may not pitch effectively in the future (2 surgeries).

$700 million is beyond expensive for a guy who’s mainly a great DH.

To me it isn't about balking on the $700M. If Ohtani is suggesting HEAVY deferrals that lead to a $2M salary then i'd 1000000% match it if I was Arte. The dude would have sold the team by the time that payment takes effect so it wouldn't be his concern. If anything, the value of the team would be higher when trying to sell it. It's a win-win.

Keep your best player for better chances to win while flipping a bigger profit when selling the team.

I think it's going to be a quiet off-season for the Angels. They won't want to overpay and screw their future, which is kind of what they're experiencing right now. And they've got a lot of young guys that they'll need to figure out if they're building blocks or not. Neto, O'Hoppe, Bachman, Joyce, Silseth, Moniak, Adell....

I think it's a solid bet that they'll continue to address the bullpen, and add a short term veteran bat and a back of the rotation arm and that's it. Unexciting, inexpensive and disappointing. But how else are they supposed to rebuild their depleted farm system?

I'm just still trying to figure out what "aggressive" is supposed to mean.
They got the last chance to dance with Ohtani and be "aggressive" and completely balked on it.

He mentions "Bellinger would give the Angels an option to cover center field if Mike Trout needs any time on the injured list" and that Bellinger is "also a marquee name who starred in LA, which could appeal to owner Arte Moreno."

    ..............

To me that just sounds like sloppy seconds. Which we all know Arte LOVES.

I like Bellinger, just fear the price is a bit too high for him.

    Sign:

    Clevinger

    Manaea Or Montas

    Justin Turner

    Hicks

    Garver

Trade Sandoval and Rengifo in a package for Burnes and Adames

    This is actually very intriguing.

I do believe Clevinger can bounce back and Montas likely needed to get out of NY. To what extent? who knows.
Hicks is a perfect fit for the Angels since they love high-velo guys.
Adames/Turner/Garver are interesting options and provide much needed depth. Curious on how the SS/2B picture looks with Adames/Neto/Drury

And of course Burnes is great and a possible extension candidate.
