Cimber's trade value is minimal at best now, most likely.  Between his recent performance, this "injury" (kinda doubt he's legitimately hurt), and his StatCast numbers, I doubt they'd get anything for him on his own when he comes off the IL.  Maybe he'll just be a throw-in in a larger deal.  If not, I imagine he'll be DFA'ed after the trade deadline, if not before.

Schanuel also had a nice 34 game/140 PA run where he hit .287/.326/.411/.737, with a totally normal .308 BAbip and 7 BB to 19 K ratio in that time. He’s just had two awful cold streaks on either side of that to depress his numbers, but again, he’s learning all of this at the big league level. For him to have more than half of his first MLB PA be that good (more than half if you count last year) while being thrust right into everyday MLB play…I see it as a positive. It was only a few years ago I remember watching Adell, Marsh, Ward and Thaiss struggle to do anything close to what Schanuel has done in their first comparable MLB reps, and with them having far more development in the minors under their belts. And pretty much all of those guys had similar prospect pedigree associated. It took Taylor Ward four years, ~2200 minor league PAs, and the age of 27 to hit 400 MLB PA. Schanuel will be there in a couple weeks at age of 22, with 100 minor league PA and an OPS of .662 (Ward was at .693 after 600 MLB PA). He deserves more grace than he’s been given on this board.
Adell had .616 and three years. Marsh .673 and two. Thaiss also four years and .672. For Schanuel to be where he is today, I don’t think it’s fair to say he’s totally cratered.

It's good PR when your team sucks to call out players on other teams for the way they suck.
They should have run that highlight of him refusing to take off his jersey after hitting a homerun because he did't want to expose the device being used to cheat.

Thanks for posting this. Yeah, I'd been under the impression that it was his ankle that was broken. Still obviously very serious, but the recovery time here appears to be much shorter than what a lot of folks had feared. Hope that comes true!

Finally got a Cole Fontenelle update.
The injuries sound brutal, but I think it’s positive to hear that he’s trying to be back in October for instructs.
I was fearing his injury might keep him out for a significant chunk of 2025. It appears that hopefully won’t be the case.

According to Passon, Anderson could be one of the most sought-after pitchers. In contrast, for Ward and Adell, Perry is seeking a substantial package in return. This implies that Anderson will likely have a strong market and is very likely to be traded. Meanwhile, the chances of Ward and Adell being traded are low unless the right package is offered.
I think Anderson will be gone, and hopefully, we can get a solid return. I don't believe the bullpen arms will fetch much, and Drury has zero value.
We should trade Anderson for one or two prospects who are close to MLB-ready. Assess Ward's trade market, and if a team is willing to offer two top 100 prospects, pull the trigger; if not, hold on to him. Try to sign Rengifo to a five-year extension worth $60-70 million. Keep Canning and Sandy unless an offer comes in that we can't refuse. Then, prepare for the next off-season. Hopefully, we can also land a top-five pick.
Anderson could fetch us 1 top 100 prospect, another 10-20 range, and maybe a 20-30 range for him.
While for Ward: I would ask for 2 top 100, and a 15-25 range.

The Braves sent him down to their AA team in Mississippi for a start tonight, presumably because they were a little short-handed on starters due to some promotions.  He went 6 innings and only gave up 1 run on 2 hits, 2 walks, and 2 hit batters.  He's now pitched 17 innings over 6 games, including 2 starts.
It's going to be hilarious when he gets called up to the majors as a pitcher.

    Ribbies!
He's been solid, but .273/.329/.483 doesn't wow me, plus his BB% has trended downward for two years now. That said, it feels like he has a hot streak in him. At the least, it is good he doesn't seem majorly impacted by his injury last year.

He's a weird hitter. But the bottom line is that since April 17, he's hit .301/.339/.434 in 123 PA. What I don't understand is: Where have the walks gone? He's got a 5.7 BB% during that time, and just 13% K-rate. Not sure what's going on, but it looks like he's just trying to make contact. Hopefully the walks will go up, because his plate discipline is (or was) his best skill.

Nothing has changed for me. Though I have a short leash, meaning if the game is getting out of hand early on or if there's a bullpen meltdown late, I just find something else to do that makes me happy or productive.

Estevez' peripherals are totally fine. His 3.69 xFIP and 3.11 SIERA suggest he should get back to a 3.25-4.00 ERA soon.
I'm optimistic about the fact Estevez has actually cut his BB/9 from a massive 4.48 in 2023, to a fantastic 1.15 in 2024.
He is just adjusting to throwing more strikes and getting a little unlucky with some hits falling which probably shouldn't.

And as bad as the pitching has been overall, if you look up and down the FIP it seems bad defense/luck have stung them quite a bit too. All of the SP have a FPI under 5.00 now (Canning is right there at 4.99) and of all the active relievers, the only ones standing out as really poor are Moore (5.97) and Suarez (4.73). The rest are sub-4.00 or sub-3.00 even (Strickland, Garcia).
It seems like they are starting to stabilize a little bit and while I don't think this is a good team, it is starting to look more like a league average team and all things considered, that's a pretty great outcome and bodes well for 2025.

    Also worth noting...

Taylor Ward's Baseball Savant is all kinds of red...

And while Luis Rengifo's is not, he's still hitting a very pleasant .312/.364/.450/.814 while emerging as a pretty solid SB threat (12 for 14).

It'll be nice when Sano and hopefully an improved Drury return.

    ZACH NETO:
Currently on pace for 24 doubles, 20 HR, 20 SB, 40 BB over 161 G Out of 176 plate appearances on the year, his last 100 of them are looking pretty good: .309/.350/.575/.925 with a reasonable .354 BABip. This is cherry-picking, yes, but I also don't think anyone expected a .900+ OPS from him.  Starting to look a little like the Trea Turner-lite I hoped for. A 20/20 season is in reach. The power and contact have been a little better than expected and will probably come back to earth some. He's striking out a lot (on pace for 160 K) but not unexpected for a 23-year old that almost went straight to bigs.  NOLAN SCHANUEL:
First 54 plate appearances: .093/.259/.163/.422 Last 118 plate appearances: .287/.328/.426/.754 and a .303 BABip, so not luck-driven. If those last 30 games are a sign of what his actual 2024 output may be, I don't think anyone would complain. Sure, the bat speed, baserunning and fielding have been underwhelming, but the discipline has been well above-average, even if it's not culminating in a ton of walks. Eventually that should change. Maybe the approach to coax more power threw off the mechanics. LOGAN O'HOPPE:
Despite a tough cold snap over the last month, still above-average offensive slash: .264/.321/.403/.723, 104 OPS+ Baseball Savant still has him well above-average as a hitter, with 75th Percentile or better in Sweet-Spot %, Hard-Hit %, Exit Velocity, and 65th Percentile or better for xwOBA, xBA, and xSLG I'd sacrifice some offense so long as he keeps growing defensively and building a rapport with the pitching staff, and even then seems like he'll be a slightly above-average catcher at that. Maybe has some streakiness in him. JO ADELL: (A picture is worth a thousand words)

Usually you do long toss up to maybe 180 feet before you get on the mound.

Then the first bullpen session might be just fastballs. Then one with everything. Then an up-down session (with a break to simulate innings). Then you’d do live BP or a sim game (which are very similar). You could do that twice. Then you can pitch in a game. How many games you’d pitch depends if you’re a starter or reliever.

Sign me up then. Thats really all I wanted from Fletch was to actually do the things he was capable of doing. His value plummeted when he started swinging at everything and getting himself out. Oh and when the right fielder camped 175 feet on the right field foul line waiting for his pop up.
