Casual fans are only going to watch if it involves one of the four or five teams that they have ever heard of.
Or two of the best four or five. After a long season, the 6th and 10th best teams to compete in a winner-takes-all final is crazy. They need to trim back the playoffs. This would also increase interest in the playoffs? I love the baseball season but it shouldn't finish in November! Most casuals lose interest I suggest?

I wouldn’t have thought it was possible, but if this team keeps up the way they’re going, we’ll have a decent chance at getting the #1 pick in next year’s draft! By good chance- I’m talking 10% or higher!
But seriously- maybe there’s a Ken Griffey Jr. in this draft! Or even better- maybe the next Phil Nevin! The good part there is is that Phil can mentor him about being a failed prospect here and then advise him that all he needs is a change of scenery to succeed in life.
it’s an exciting time to be an Angels fan- keep losing for that pick!Probably not this year - but maybe next year....

Yep. We don't get so many opportunities to watch live over here, so must be done. Having said that, I suspect my finger will remain lightly on the 'off' button, ready to quit.....
Not yet!

mlb.tv for free over here (using superfan nephew's account!) Any night game I am usually asleep though. Sounds like I wont be able to watch Sundays day game which is a bummer!

Oh the devolution of the Angels fan!
Now we have to wait a few more years, until Rendon is gone!
And Rendon is heading to the IL again.

I wasn’t being argumentative, just trying to get my head round it. Just saying stats can say whatever we want, I suppose

Fletch's War value is a result of his poor play at the start of the season -- it's mostly irrelevant as to whether he or Stefanic should have been recalled. Head to head AAA stats both guys were pretty comparable, but Stefanic's ability to milk walks doesn't hurt his cause any.
But that was kind of my point, if the WAR stats are irrelevant then...they're irrelevant?
-
Thanks. So at the simplest, crudest level someone on +1.0 is a better player or has more value than someone on -0.1.
Therefore, the suggestion - for example - the Angels should have brought up Fletch instead of Stefanic is wrong.
But I suppose that's where stats can be subjective

Interesting read, particularly WAR v Salary. I'm not very au fait with these advanced stats. Wins against Replacement Player. Is that Wins against a league average replacement or against some random minimum wage scrub found on the street?

Oh my favourite topic back here in old England. Sadly I haven't been over the sea for nearly 17 years now, but as of October 2006: I had watched a game in 13 parks (some of which have now gone) and - walked outside, looked at, touched, when no game taking place - 9 others.
First was Anaheim of course. Most irritating - but an amusing ish story (in the 9 list) was Oakland.

He said ageing not aging.
That’s a weird thing T.G. I would spell it aging but the corrective text thingy changed it to ageing so I thought maybe that’s the American way? Anyway, I was only being facetious re Albert as I think people realised

Sounds ok. Do the Angels have any history in taking aging first basemen from St Louis?

Today isnt a must win. A 4-2 home stand is not an embarrassment. Problem, if they lose today, they will need to win 3 of 4 in Texas.
Depends if you want his flip flops back on I guess

Trout and Ohtani are surrounded by a team of players playing at a mediocre level. It is plausible to think that they do have a negative impact on them as well. Trout is no longer the player he once was and Ohtani’s greatest strength is his pitching and he has been their best starter. I do not think they should resign Ohtani for what he is going to command. Maybe Arte is willing to spend on building a team but he can’t make those players go out and perform as expected.
People will criticise Arte if he doesn't get Ohtani signed up at 50m a year and yet, if the other pieces on the team are mediocre, it's going to stay that way if he commits over a third of payroll on just two players.

I'm really liking this guy.
Disarcina was my SS as a kid. Eckstein and Aybar were good, probably better than Disar, but for some reason I still viewed Disar as MY SS. Cabrera was very good but had a shorter tenure. Simmons was extremely underrated. We definitely landed him on the 2nd half of his career, but he was unbelievable.
I think Neto might become my favorite Angel SS going forward.
Standard answer on here is 'sample size', but I like this kid. He just looks like he belongs already.

Any word on why no Ren and Ren?
