Love early weekday games! Makes work so much better haha. I predict Canning strikes out the side in the 1st
Side note: whenever I see the name Cesar Puello, for some reason I hear Super Pollo, pretty good Mexican food in Costa mesa not far from where I grew up

Had a chance to attend the game yesterday.
Had a blast besides the outcome
took the bart from SF. Which was super easy
sat 2 rows behind the angels dugout
obviously the stadium is old but I personally had a better expierence there than I did at oracle park for the giants game on Saturday
beer was super cheap and the fans were some of the best to sit around
    let’s win tonight !

That isn’t a day off.  Ok, Saturday, go to work, hang out for 4-5 hours.  That is your day off.  I am defending against really stupid arguments, in this case it has to do with your jealousy of what they make.

Ohtani remains out.  This, despite having the day off yesterday.  I’ll never understand why the team looks for reasons to keep its 2nd best hitter out of the line up.
    I hate this so much.

That can’t be true. Sunday July 19th 2015 vs BOS, I had tickets and it was rained out and a double header was the next day. Unless that’s something different?

Just my guess, but I think Pujols retires after next year, or there's some sort of a buy-out that occurs where he's still paid in full amount, but he transitions to a front office role,
2019: LF Upton, CF Trout, RF Calhoun, 1B Pujols/Walsh platoon.  DH Ohtani.  3B La Stella/Fletcher.  Jo Adell and Brandon Marsh are in AA, Matt Thaiss is in AAA.  Jordyn Adams and Kevin Maitan in A Ball.
2020: LF Upton, CF Trout, RF Adell, 1B platoon of Thaiss and Ward.  3B La Stella/Fletcher, DH platoon of Ohtani and Pujols.  This is Pujols' swan song.  We use AAA as a holding tank for MLB ready talent that's not getting PT in the majors, like Brandon Marsh and Jahmai Jones.  Jordyn Adams and Kevin Maitan in Advanced A Ball.
2021: LF Adell, CF Trout, RF Marsh, 1B Justin Upton/Matt Thaiss.  3B Matt Thaiss/Fletcher.  DH Ohtani/Upton.  Jordyn Adams and Kevin Maitan in AA.  Jahmai Jones is traded.
2022: LF Adell, CF Trout, RF Marsh, 1B Upton/Thaiss, 3B Thaiss/Fletcher, DH Ohtani/Upton.  Jordyn Adams and Kevin Maitan in AAA, also embarking into the majors.
    2023: LF Trout, CF Adams, RF Adell, 1B Marsh/Thaiss, 3B Maitan/Thaiss, DH Ohtani/Maitan.

flipped back a forth between all three games tonight.  A few observations:
Cowart looks like a position player trying to pitch.
    Heaney looked terrific.
Thaiss looks better than Ward at 3b.  Had an error on a throw but made a nice play to make the stop before an errant throw.  Stronger are than I remember.
Ward tried to make a throw from the OF and looked like someone tied his shoe laces together and made him throw with his opposite hand.  Literally one of the most awkward thinks I've seen.  Can't figure the guy out.  Great arm.  Pretty athletic.  I think he's a martian.  Dude looks so out of place on certain plays and like a star on others.
Beasley has good stuff.  4k in 5ip with 4h and 2bb.  But looked better than that.  Good breaking ball and change.
Marsh is a really good defensive OFer.  Every bit of a CFer and with some swag/flair.  Whiffed twice in his 1-4 but has good at bats.
Soriano had an awesome line tonight.  4ip, 10h, 5er (4er in the first), 1bb, 7k.  Classic case of a guy with dominant stuff when he throws it even close to where he wants.  Also had a ton of bad luck with some cheapies.  Slider is unhittable.  Seriously.  It's super nasty plus plus when he throws it right and he whizzed the fastball by you several times.  A much better appearance than the stats show.  Overall thought, very inconsistent.

I just think if you have Ohtani and Kole you are just asking for a team to bring in that tough lefty out of the pen late in the game to face both of them.  La Stella doesn’t strike out so he would be less of a problem.

The Angels started the season 1-6, scoring 17 runs, and allowing 31.
However, their season 'turned around' on April 5th with their second win of the year, and since then, they have:
Posted a record of 20-18, despite an awful 2-10 stretch in the middle. Scored 205 runs (5.3 runs per game) and allowed 191 (5 runs per game) The Starting Nine have posted a collective .274/.352/.490/.842 (!!!) slash (average 2019 AL slash is .247/.321/.425/.746) C : Lucroy: .269/.339/.481/.820 1B: Bour: .184/.279/.368/.647 2B: La Stella: .318/.402/.636/1.037 3B: Fletcher: .301/.345/.444/.789 SS: Simmons: .319/.343/.456/.800 LF: Goodwin: .298/.370/.479/.849 CF: Trout: .295/.463/.682/1.045 RF: Calhoun: .240/.329/.481/.809 DH: Pujols: .244/.299/.480/.779
As we all know, the rotation has been the issue - 6.08 ERA - excluding Canning and 'openers': Skaggs: 7 GS, 5.15 ERA, averaging 5 IP/GS Cahill: 7 GS, 8.16 ERA, averaging 4.2 IP/GS Harvey: 7 GS, 5.60 ERA, averaging 5 IP/GS Pena: 7 G/3 GS, 2.83 ERA, averaging 5 IP/GS Stratton: 6 G/4 GS, 8.64 ERA Really, no other data is needed to get the point across at how terrible they've been.
      The bulk of the pen has continued to pitch well despite heavy use: Buttrey: 20.2 IP, 0.87 ERA, 4 BB, 26 K, 0 HR, .211 BAA Bedrosian: 18 IP, 2.50 ERA, 10 BB, 18 K, 1 HR, .185 BAA Ramirez: 17.2 IP, 3.57 ERA, 7 BB, 20 K, 4 HR, .215 BAA Bard: 17.1 IP, 2.60 ERA, 5 BB, 20 K, 4 HR, .219 BAA Robles: 17.1 IP, 3.12 ERA, 4 BB, 18 K, 1 HR, .177 BAA Garcia: 13 IP, 2.08 ERA, 11 BB, 8 K, 0 HR, .159 BAA Allen: 12 IP, 6.00 ERA, 13 BB, 15 K, 4 HR, .245 BAA Anderson: 11 IP, 4.09 ERA, 4 BB, 20 K, 1 HR, .200 BAA Collectively, that group has... a 3.10 ERA and .201 BAA (6.7 H9)  In 127 IP, 58 BB (4.1 per 9), 145 K (10.3), and 15 HR (1.1 HR9) This post isn't really intended to 'defend' the Angels, or even draw any real conclusions - sample size is still small - this is 25% of the season right here - but I was surprised to see just how good the starting nine have been offensively.
It is also encouraging that they've been able to post a winning record with a starting rotation that bad and in spite of losing 10 of 12 in the middle of it all.

Bour has already been cast off, replaced with Ohtani, and Stratton replaced with Canning, which should be drastic improvements.

Kevin Maitan collected two more hits today, one was a grand slam.  Matt Thaiss is back on the upswing.  Brandon Marsh is staying hot, and Jaime Barria had a pretty solid outing in AAA, all things considered.

I have no issue with the opener, unless it's proven that it's detrimental to the team's success.
It seems like people's opposition of it has more to do with the tradition/history of the game, than about whether or not it's beneficial.

You do all the research and work because of your passion for the team/game and it enables fans like me to be better connected to this passion. So thank you HOF'ers! The only way I could think of making it somewhat even is to pay for the ad-exemption, which I just did lol.

The Angels are 18-15 since the first week of the season, and that includes a stretch where they lost 6 straight and 9 out of 10.
They’re doing much better than we realize. Not great by any means, but the board is selling them short a bit. Me included.
Their starting pitching sure as shit isn’t contributing to that - the offense and bullpen are getting it done.

It's not really. It just brings to focus where the real issue is at, starting pitching & the fact that we've missed out on Ohtani/Upton and had many of our guys besides Trout start off the first three weeks ice cold at the plate. Also doesn't help that Cozart and Bour have been complete busts.
