Ron Reed played in the NBA for the Pistons and pitched in the NL for the Braves in the 60s. Once he quit basketball he became an NL all star reliever and went on to long successful MLB career with several teams.

makepeac got a reaction from DMVol in Orange County Register: Miller: Angels confident in Albert Pujols, regardless of the numbers
It's like watching the baseball equivalent of Kobe Bryant's final two horrendous Laker seasons. Only the Lakers knew exactly how long that would last, when they could move ahead and focus on younger players, could milk it for the marketing, sales impact, etc.t.  With six years left Albert holds all the cards right now.
No one could have predicted just how quickly Albert's production would fall off the cliff coming off those seasons with the Cardinals, though given a ten year contract it was inevitable you'd be paying for past performance in the final years. Arte likely also overestimated the marketing appeal Albert would have to the Latinos in SoCal (very little apparently). And had no idea Trout was a superstar in waiting who could cheaply fill the seats and marketing/billboard angles instead.
The Hamilton signing on the other hand just made no sense whatsover. The guy was already trending downward, had well known issues, was aging, just wasn't a need at that time except for the fact they had money and Greinke (the real need) didn't want any of it.

Me too. Double ugh. Sitting with friends who are Cardinal fans behind their dugout. Triple ugh.
The marine layer seemed to only be in effect in the bottom half of each inning. Rockets flew in the top halves. Couldn't have had anything to do with whom was on the mound I'm sure.

Rosenthal's article brings up exactly what a friend and I talked about over the weekend, how qualified guys like Tim Wallach could be left out given the new trend of hiring young guys with Ivy League cred and their disciples over "old school." Glad to see Rosenthal bring up the "managing" aspect of dealing with a clubhouse full of egos over a seven month period.

It's also interesting to note that Dipoto brought both Servais and Bogar to his Angels staff, two people who both aspired to manage yet were put in other FO roles until he left and got hired in Seattle. The tension between Dipoto's and Scioscia's staffs now makes much more sense when you realize that two front office staff  basically wanted to suit up and take over the manager and bench coach jobs, and Jerry likely had them on his staff in the hopes he could eventually make that happen.

Then you have Jerry going into the clubhouse and initiating confrontation and surprised about the reception he received from the players and coaching staff? Dipoto, Servais, these guys were all players, they've been around, been in clubhouses, they had to understand the underlying tensions being caused here. Not exactly the "great communicator" that he's been portrayed as in my eyes. And I liked Dipoto, thought he brought good energy to the club, made some good trades from nothing to stock up on young pitching. Just overplayed his hand quite a bit in the end. Now he can do what he really wanted, just a couple of thousand miles to the North.

John Jaso has a career .539 OPS against lefties.
There's a reason why Melvin brought in Jaso for their 5 hitter Norris(who is hitting .333 btw).
He hits fastballs, and he hits righties.

Melvin out managed MS so bad in the 7th inning, it was probably comical in his eyes.
First he called the straight steal, guessed right on which pitch to go on, gave Cespedes a 2-0 count, got the walk, then brought in the ideal lefty, and MS didn't know what was going on the whole time.
