  1. I blame him for Bumgarner. He should easily be worth that contract. Several teams did very well putting rotations together this offseason and all we came up with so far is a couple of third tier pitchers that might be good. On the other hand, if Bundy forgets how to throw his slider and his gopher ball tendencies jump to the negative, and if Teheran starts walking one more hitter per game, we're basically back to last year's parade of injuries and ineffectiveness. Admittedly, the offseason isn't over, but I'm having difficulty adding any sort of perspective to the overall picture. Given the enthusiasm at the beginning of the offseason, I never would have guessed that we would end up with zero of the upper end free agents.
  2. We added two mid-rotation (3-4) starters and an elite third baseman with a top 10 bat. How anyone can rate this as a D or an F is simply panty twisting sour-grapes. I gave him a B. A low B, albeit a B. Give us Ryu and Eppler gets an easy A.
  3. Ya gotta admit, we don't have anyone like Clase and there is a lot of value there. The Indians have a really good rotation aside from Kluber and a weak pen. This trade helps them a lot.
  4. Maybe he did us a favor by deciding on the Yanks. I really like adding Rendon to this lineup. Looking at it realistically, we now have the best 1-2 punch in the game. We still need pitching, but a lot less than we did last week.
  5. I remember they had yearly targets for minor leaguers in terms of steal attempts, going from first to third on a single, scoring from second on a single, that sort of stuff. They were less concerned with success in these attempts than they were in the young players learning this style off baseball. Scioscia talked about keeping pressure on the defense.
  6. Why would we want to downgrade at third?
  7. I wonder if that package could get Darvish and Contreras? Add Rendon and MadBum/Ryu as free agents and it's a hell of an off-season.
  8. For the Angels and the Yankees "All-in" has different meanings. Isn't that obvious?
  9. That's it right there. If the Yankees decide they will not be out bid, they won't be. Nothing can be done about that.
  10. If we had made that offer the Yankees would have raised it again. They recognized how unique this opportunity is and would not have been out-bid. They have the resources to do whatever they want. Even all-in has it's limits to all other teams.
  11. To be fair, "soon" is relative. In geologic terms "soon" could be millions of years.
  12. The pendulum continues to swing. Perhaps at some point they will correlate cost with use? Maybe something like limit pitchers to 60 pitches but go to a four man rotation? I don't know. It's early in this transformation but it's going to be interesting to see where it leads.
  13. You do realize I was being facetious, correct?
  14. I'm not half as stupid as you are sounding. Let me repeat what I said earlier. I will try to write slowly to help you understand. I HAVE READ THAT THEY ARE INTERESTED IN SHOPPING HIM. THEY ARE IN THE INFANCY OF THEIR REBUILD AND WANT TO CONTINUE ADDING PROSPECTS. I THREW HIS NAME OUT THERE TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE THOUGHT. If you read the above two sentences several times perhaps the actual meaning will sink in? I have my doubts, but please give it a try.
  15. I'm not "proposing" anything. Are you having trouble with the English language?
  16. Well Mr. Snotty, I'm not a professional armchair GM like you. I threw his name out there because there has been rumors about them shopping him and I was curious about what people thought.
  17. A 26 year old rookie with no pedigree, a less than stellar track record, and who had a breakout year for a team that is years away from contention. Do you think they consider him untouchable?
  18. Speaking about the Orioles, what about Chris Davis' teammate John Means? Second in ROY voting. He had a very good year especially pitching in home run happy Camden and the AL East. The O's are deep in rebuild mode so they might consider a package centered around Marsh.
  19. I've been saying all along that I think we sign Odorizzi. I've also been saying that I think last year was an outlier that he will never repeat.
  20. Eppler is a pretty smart guy. After putting his blood, sweat, and tears into this organization since he has had the helm, he has to know it's on the line this year. He has done a remarkable job of turning this team around from top to bottom but the one thing missing is results. Arte is raising the budget, capable talent is on the market, and he now has an undisputedly successful manager. This season is do or die for Eppler and he knows it. No more pressure than before? Hogwash.
  21. Yep, it's the overall package that is important, not necessarily the specific ingredients.
